All it did was change it for some unseen reason.

I was miffed at the fact they cut the 'I closed my eyes, it was Rorschach who opened them' line :/
I loved that line:\
will admit, did not like the "walter kovacs died with that little girl" bit. It's like the watered-down hollywood cheese that appears in every fuckin movie.

Movie Rorschach should've altered his damn voice too. Like how they somewhat did in the comics. Using one monotone throat cancer voice was very odd and according to some, laughable.

And it still occurs to me that they should've left out Nixon altogether except the war room scene. I was pissed off Zack kept putting Nixon and stuff. =/

To be fair we almost never hear him talking where he's not acting as Rorschach. If he were talking in flashbacks before he became Rorschach I'm sure his voice would sound differently.

Oh, he did? I didn't notice. That kind of sucks. I guess I was too overwhelmed on first viewing to notice details like that.

Yeah, I wish they'd have made more a point of his split personalities.

[2009/04/03|17:36:04] DaigotheKing: 2 minutes every now and than to insert the clues that something sinister was going on, on that island would have been more than enough exposition

while i agree with everything your saying dacon i just dont see how 2 minute scenes here and there will work.
Yeah one scene is 2 minutes but it would take multiple scenes like this to set it up properly here and there and get the subplot tone going. Yeah whats a 2 min scene here and there right?
Then its 2 2 minute scenes , then 3 and 4 and so on and eventually the amount of time setting it up went from your casual 2 min scene to 10-20 minutes total , which is crucial since they were aiming for under 3 hours.

While i love the idea mum brought up about it being best suited as a mini series (maybe on hbo to keep it not pg 13 :P) it just wouldnt have the same financial backing and wouldnt be anywhere near as the movie in terms of quality.

Hopefully the directors cut resolves all these issues i wouldnt mind sitting down and seeing a much more faithful adaptation of the GN even if im sitting there all afternoon.
im still ambivelant though that for the time constraint put in place we got a fairly good deal.

I don't see how the information required for that subplot to work would require more than ten minutes interspersed throughout the film. In fact it could take even less time than that, it's not like the scenes that delivered said information were particularly long in the book itself.

The concern about runtime wouldn't be pushed as far if you ask me.

it's not so much including the information that would take up so much time as including enough context to make it not seem like unnecessarily intrusive exposition. Just mentioning out of the blue that a bunch of psychics have disappeared would be weird.

Well of course I didn't mean a series of offhand comments Aaron.

A lot of information can be divulged in a short amount of time, without seeming rushed if properly written and directed.

It could be done, but I'm sceptical that it could only be done in ten minutes. That's all I'm sayin :monster:

Well opinions, and all that bullshit.

But that's the conclusion I've drawn from the books.

terry gilliam wanted to do it in a 5 part series. that sounds like it could've worked, the film, for me, was a bit over long. it could've done with about 20 more minutes cut out of it. the changed ending sucks, but i can see why they did it for celluloid purposes.

medicore film, but as close to the watchmen comic as we'll get. not counting the motion comics.

Motion comics should've had various casts instead of one. It sounded silly hearing a man narrate a female character. 8(

Yeah, it took a while to get used to that. The guy narrating did have a pretty good range of voices, for just being one guy, I thought actually. But they should have probably hired an actress for the females.

Exacta. I found it silly, they should just hired 2, one for male and 2 for female voices. Or basically just recasted the film cast if they had time. Somewhat like a radio drama.

Imo, they should just have made a live action miniseries. 6 episodes for one season for the 6 volumes and the final season for the last 6.

IMO they should have treated the motion comic more as a animated series rather than a audiobook.

Also, has anyone been able to catch The Tale of the Black Freighter yet? It's pretty cool to check out for any Watchmen fans. It also includes Under the Hood and some making-of featurettes with commentary from the cast and crew. There's alot more Minutemen scenes included in Under the Hood for anyone who wants to check it out. I haven't seen all of Under the Hood, but I thought the Black Freighter was a pretty solid half-hour animation. I don't think I could imagine watching it spliced into the film as I heard they are planning to do with the DVD release.

the next tie i see this film i want it to be a directors cut blu-ray edition running at about 4 hours long.

I liked it for the most part. It was a little bit weird in theaters when there's about a 60 people in the theater and you feel like you're watching a porno with a bunch of random strangers. I know a few of my friends who would've popped a boner from it. lol

It was an entertaining movie but at the same time, it just was dragged on for so long. It didn't really live up to me like I thought it would. The previews made it look a lot better than it was...not saying it was bad...just not as good as I thought it would be.

Not a rumour, it's going to have about forty-five minutes of additional footage that wasn't in the theatrical version. Though I'm not clear if that forty-five minutes includes the Black Freighter stuff or not.

the theatrical cut may have seemed about 2 weeks long but the idea of an unresticted watchmen film, not bound by time constraints, makes me happy.

hopefully the pacing will be superior in the directors cut, you could almost sense that you were missing scenes. maybe it's just me.

anyone else played watchmen: end is nigh on PSN/live?
