Dune, a classic which I've never actually read, :monster:. I can definitely see where they got certain gameplay and story elements from the first and second Dune games (from Westwood) from. The first one was omg good btw, I wouldn't be surprised if someone would remake it and fuck up.

"The King in Yellow" by Robert W. Chambers. Read it if you like Lovecraftian fantasy.

Then, by the same author: "Blue Bird Weather" and "The Dark Star", which were quite entertaining.

"Othello" and "King Lear", in Spanish.

Now I'm struggling with "Henry IV" in English. I'm very bad at early modern English. That ashames me ;__;

Finished Dune, was good despite being full of weird philosophy and feeling a bit rushed / timeskippy at the end, plus the climax was a bit... weird. Let's just say it wouldn't fit a movie very well. Now on to Dune Messiah.

Just finished Good Omens. Again.

Recently finished:

Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. I think I'm generally into satirical stuff about the apocalypse, so this was definitely relevant to my interests.

The Child Garden by Geoff Ryman. This book was crazy and I'm still trying to figure out what the fuck happened, particularly at the end, but I think I liked it a lot. I don't even really know how to summarize it - basically it's set in a future where people can photosynthesize and are educated by viruses. The main character, who is immune to the viruses, is a lesbian (society is intolerant and said viruses also eliminate homosexuality) who falls in love with a genetically engineered Polar Bear woman who's a musical genius and has written an opera of Dante's Divine Comedy. The main character works to stage this opera while The Consensus uses her/her immunity to advance human evolution. Or something. I think the plot succeeds more on an individual level than a general one (but again, I dunno exactly what happened :monster: ) - that is, all the characters were really interesting, and the main character was very well written and likeable (and so the fact that the plot has her in a rather special snowflake-y position isn't really bothersome).

Currently reading Wise Blood by Flannery O'Connor.

^What the fuck did I just read? :monster:

Currently on the 3rd book of the Dune series (Children of Dune iirc). The first book was good, the second was okay, bit short, the third... I'm not sure, I feel as if I'm reading all kinds of philosophical stuff and not an actual story anymore, and if there is a story in there, it progresses very, very slowly.

I'm currently in the middle of The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. Very good book so far.

Finished Wise Blood. Not being religious I disagree with/can't really relate to (what seems to be?) the main point of the book, but it was interesting and very darkly funny. Also, O'Connor is the best at similes.

Now you know how I feel. :monster:

While Dune Messiah isn't quite as good as Dune, IMO, I think the two work really well together. I thought Children of Dune was OK, but it kind of felt like Dune: Creepy Twins Edition with more spice trips.

Pax Britannia: Unnatural History - unnatural indeed. It's a steampunk alternative 1990s, and the male lead is like an Edwardian dandy Bond. Devolving humans and surviving saurians ahoy.

V-Wars - an interesting premise. An ancient virus that's extinct in modern times is released from the melting polar caps. This triggers a transformation in the junk DNA turning people into the vampire or werewolf type in their native folklore.

It's mainly let down by the individual stories being broken down into two or more parts scattered about the book (presumably they were going for a film feel, switching between A, B, C and D plots at almost random). It's also let down by inconsistent proof-reading. One story in particular has within three pages of each other, one character having another in their "sites" (sights), and then another character "letter her see" (letting her see). However, the good stories are on par with genre stand alone novels, IMO.

Still Frankenstein. Still relating more to the Wretch more than his creator. (The word "monster" is used sparingly in text - more often wretch, fiend and demon/daemon are used.)

I think it's kind of the point of the whole piece; is that the monster itself may or may not be made monstrous by the actions of the creator himself (nature vs. nurture, blah blah blah), and that his/her actions are a direct influence by the values (or lack thereof) taught.

The themes aren't too blatantly obvious at first, but the monologues goin' on towards the end is kinda bleh

It's pretty much a deconstruction of various words and phrases people use to make points and end arguments; most of which don't make sense when you really think about them. His main beef is with people who use ideological arguments, but say the arguments they use are not ideological in nature.

Most of you guys would disagree with every point he makes.

A Warhammer Fantasy Battles novel, based around the Wood Elves faction. Too early to make any judgements.

Recently finished Jingo, my favourite comedic Discworld novel (my favourite dramatic Discworld novel is a tie between Night Watch and Thud!).
