What Comics Are You Reading?

Went into my local comic shop a little over a week ago, which I had never found until recently, because it's a hole-in-the-wall place, and I've only lived here for a little over a year.

Monstress, by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda from Image Comics is just stunning. The artwork, the dialogue, the characters and backgrounds... everything is just beautiful. It's a lovely combination of sci-fi, fantasy, monsters, human hybrids, Victorian settings, ancient decor, and whole helluva lot more. I hadn't had a chance to actually sit down and finish reading the first issue beyond a few pages until today, but when I was out running errands with a friend, but I picked up the second issue, and I'm so very glad I did, because I am officially hooked. I highly recommend it.

Also, it has cats.

My pull list is cutting way back now that "Secret Wars" is over. I'm going to see "The Vision" through to its end at issue #5 or 6, see what the next arc of "Silver Surfer" has going on since Slott has built it up so much in interviews, and likely continue getting "Thor" until Aaron's run ends, as I've followed it up to now -- oh, and "Squirrel Girl" of course.

But that's all from the new initiative I've found worth sticking with/trying.

My tl;dr on "Secret Wars" #9 is still coming, by the way. :monster: Probably done with that in the next couple of days.

After reading your spectacular write-up on Secret Wars, it just occurred to me that Weirdworld isn't one of the titles you're still reading. Since it's one of the least ANAD-connected titles, I was wondering why you didn't opt to keep going with it.

Partly because I didn't want to get sucked in, partly because I had gotten the impression it was going to have ANAD's fingerprints all over it. Off the top of my head, I know "Black Knight" (which looks really interesting) is set there, the Squadron Supreme just began an arc there, the Extraordinary X-Men will be paying a visit for multiple issues soon, and I think one of the Avengers teams is showing up there in one of the books (possibly the Black Knight's)?

Black Knight's been cool (and yes, it's Steve's Avengers group there right now), but despite taking place in the same(ish) world location thing, Weirdworld is very much a continuation of JUST the same stuff that's lovable about the original comic, but with a different cast (picking up right where it left off). You'll get sucked in, but insofar as I can tell it's not touching the rest of ANAD any more than the original touched Secret Wars.

Also there's this:

ALL-NEW ALL-DIFFERENT
• Daredevil #3 (good progression)
• Extraordinary X-Men #6 (decent building up)
• Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur #3 (still fun, excited for Hulk)
• Venom: Space Knight #3 (finally hit its stride)
(Marvel Feb. Previews)

STAR WARS
• Kanan #10 (amazing & well-timed for Rebels)

IMAGE
• Monstress #3 (so goddamn spectacular)

IDW
• Orphan Black Helsinki #3 (feeling properly like Orphan Black)
• TMNT #54 (phenomenal as always)

ONI
• Rick & Morty #10 (everything it should be)

Extraordinary X-Men #6
Kanan #10
Old Man Logan #1
DC
Batman & Robin Eternal #17
Grayson #16

Extraordinary's art got better, Old Man Logan and Kanan's art stay awesome. I look forward to OML taking on Mysterio. Grayson's never been better, using the whiole spyworld of DC as it's cast, really happy nu52 Maxwell Lord isn't a total supervillain like he turned into in the noughties.

Wasn't it complete bullshit when he was revealed to still be a villain, though, anyway? It contradicted years of stuff establishing him as not, including inner monologues.

I still hate that.

Uncanny Avengers #5
Uncanny Inhumans #4
Old Man Logan #2
Darth Vader #16

DC
Batman and Robin Eternal #19
Starfire #9
Batman #49

Got a lot of issues here where the setup for the next issue is more interesting the issue itself. Batman is back, Cable is sticking around, Kate Bishop will be in the next OML and lots of bounty hunters coming for Aphra dead or alive. Can't say I'm a fan of Starfire's new artist. Top book this week is Uncanny Avengers which saw Kang defeated, and not actually retconned into an Inhuman all along after all. McNiven's art is top notch too.

Just picked up Harley's Little Black Book #2 from work today along with an intriguing first issue of an Assassin's Creed comic with a female on the front. Should be quite interesting.
