So apparently, The Old Republic has a free play weekend (y'know, to draw in players, maybe it's not as popular as they want it to be, but I should find some figures about the actual player base), so I decided to give it a go.
The initial download is, off course, ginormous and took a few hours, as well as a few restart attempts to get the speed up to my internets pipe's maximum, but it finally did finish.
The intro movie is actually kinda neat, even though it's obvious they're basically stealing stuff from the movies and putting it in their own image or something (troof for everything in the star wars franchise). The game itself, so far... well, it's an MMO and falls into the exact same playstyle as all the other MMO's in the last decade. But, so far, it hasn't become tedious yet. The quests are well made, and so far have avoided the 'kill 10 rats' pitfall. Might just be the 'begin game content' though. They do do 'kill 10 rats' things, but they're mainly bonus objectives for the 'venture deep into this dungeon to find your mity s0rd' main quests.
At the very least, it's fun~ish to play in a weekend. I don't think it's worth a monthly fee at this point though.
