What was the last game you finished?

Finished the first Uncharted. Quite enjoyed it. Was playing the Uncharted Collection version so I know things have been touched up and whatnot but it's aged very well for a ten year old first entry of a series :monster:

Another Zelda game I'm playing for the first time: The Wind Waker (HD).
Feels so summery - every area gorgeous! The interaction with people and the environment is great. I'm having a lot of fun so far :)

Finally finished playing Wind Waker since I began back in March. Really fun - definitely a game to play during the summer months, at that.

Couldn't decide between starting a new game of FFVII or FFVI, so I'm alternating instead. One game one day, the other the next :monster
Date: Nov 19, 2015

I am still playing through that FFVII file and I've only just taken Bugenhagen onto the airship there last week :closedmonster:

Anyway, time for that Twilight Princess HD game sitting in its box still since it arrived three months ago. Most definitely worth the wait, so I hear.

Just finished Lego Jurassic World for my 50th platinum. SO that's nice. Only 50 more to go for my target for the year :monster:

Finished Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright the other day. It was fun, but I didn't like the character's relationships with each other as much as previous titles. They just didn't seem genuine or unique to me.

Persona 3 and 4. I just have to say, I haven't enjoyed a game this much since I was a kid. And the sad part is, I would have overlooked this series because they do give that weeby feel at a very cursory first glance (much like Steins;Gate.. actually, these games are VERY much in the entire spirit of that show on pretty much every level), but I went through with it because they're a favorite of my boyfriend.

I have played some good games through the years, but nothing has ever dazzled me on every front as these games have, especially 4, it was just that magical fuckin' feeling that I didn't think I'd ever feel to that extent again. The appeal is wide: they'll have you deeply attached to the characters, laughing and crying with them, interacting with all different types of people and immersing you into the universe, and pondering philosophically while you fuse Personas creatively and enjoy the addictive gameplay. These are probably the most nuanced characters I've ever seen in a game. The only thing these games lack in is dungeon design, but this is going to be fixed in Persona 5.

Personas 3 and 4 are probably both in my top ten games or any kind of all time, I love them so much. I am currently playing the female protag in P3P and soooooo looking forward to P5 finally getting released.

Persona 5 looks like it's going to be incredible and I'm so glad they scratched the Japan exclusive plan. It's gorgeous and looks like it's gonna have a lot of gameplay and map to offer.

I played as the female protag as well. In terms of choosing whether to play the PS2 or PSP version, I was a little irritated about having to choose between being being a cursor on a map and not having the ability to control the characters in combat. So I chose the female version, since I figured the next time I'd play it would be the male-only PS2 version and I wanna see the two different stories. Who is your favorite character/social link?

Is it just me, or is the Persona series kinda obscure? It doesn't seem the community is very large, and there isn't even a fan forum outside of an RP community.

I think outside people that are fans of JRPGs, yeah it's a bit obscure, which is really too bad since they are fantastic. I think the problem is that when P3 came out (which I think is the first astoundingly good one), it didn't really get a lot of push in the media. I love JRPGs and I didn't even hear about it until a friend mentioned it a few months after it was out. I can't tell if Persona 5 is getting more attention for other gamers or not, since I mostly only hang out with other JRPGers but I certainly hope so.

The first time I played P3, it was the FES PS2 version and it was before P3P was a thing so I had no choice. The AI is so irritating, I wanted to throw my controller across the room (something I have only actually done with Odin Sphere). When it came to the boss fight, I just couldn't handle it. The last boss is such a long ordeal with so many forms and the AI was so stupid, I gave up after five or so tries and never actually beat the game on PS2.

Then I got P3P when it came out and everything in the world was right once again. I mean, I miss running around on the world map but I like controlling my party members more so it's a fair trade off in my opinion. Plus, it's actually a lot easier to get around town and school when you can just hit square and select where you want to go. I finally did beat the male protag's route when P3P came out and although I am sure basically already having played the game once helped a lot, not having to deal with dumb AI made the game so much easier. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is individual taste, but I cannot stand a game that is hard because your party AI is dumb as a rock.

As far as social links go, I really like having the two different routes to choose from and I don't think you get the full experience without doing both. Some links are with completely different people that you would not normally get to know as well, like Female Star. But even some of the links that are the same person are a different experience depending on the protag's gender. Magician is a great example. As a male, I found Magician to be generally annoying as a character to be around. His social link was a little more tolerable than his other dialog, but still not something I looked forward to maxing. However, as a female, you get to see a different side of him, which I thought was really nice and made him seem more like a real multifaceted personality.

For favorites, I would go Female Star and Magician just because you get to know the characters more in depth when you play as both genders. Also Sun, Hierophant, and Hanged Man for realistic portrayals of real life issues that happen everyday.

Finished the main quest of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt today. Total play time was about 160 hours, although the first 75 was only my initial playthrough which was cut off abruptly when my HDD seized up and died. Man, losing that save file was painful.

I'm finishing up the remainder of my questlog and finding the master level witcher's gear, though I'm now kinda wondering if I'll be up to wandering about the lands to clear out the ?s on the map.

Finished Portal for the first time a couple days ago. Was a short but fun game, I like that it was a puzzle game, and a very unique one at that. It also seems to have not much to the story until you find a certain hidden room. :awesome:
I like that 'reveal' you get. I think there's hints before that that something isn't right (not seeing people in those windows in the test chambers, the robotic voice malfunctioning, things she says), but it's not until you find that room with the stuff written on the walls and the warnings where it all suddenly takes on an ominous tone and you start feeling like a prisoner. I loved that reveal :awesome: Also helps that the AI is sarcastic. I'm playing the 2nd one now, but so far her presence is much more ominous in the first game.
Also I beat her with no time left on the clock. I had less than a second before I choked to death with the gas when that last orb from her blew up. :wacky: Huzzah!

You'd really like the second one too. It's longer and a totally worthy sequel.

I'm working my way alphabetically through a backlog of unfinished games so I beat excellent Metroid clone Axiom Verge. Felt more fluid than most games of its ilk. Story does the job, very much a tale of man's hubris in the face of the unknowable. There's a nightmare sequence that culminates in a boss fight which is either really easy or really hard, depending on your viewpoint. The tools you pick up are pretty ingenious. There's a lot of different weapons to find, although truthfully I only ever used three of them. Aside from getting stuck once or twice (usually down to my own stupidity; at one point I spent two hours scouring the whole map for the key to a barrier which turned out to be in fact an unlocked door) progress is straightforward enough, while the hidden stuff ranges from the devious to the downright cryptic.

Speaking of which, if anyone can recommend a good starting point for more Castlevania-like games, or even Castlevania itself? That's a whole area of gaming I know basically bugger-all about.

Tales of Xillia. My God, that final bossfight was a slog. Sixty seven minutes plus a few failed attempts. Even Leia stealing the healing items doesn't stop them from regenerating completely.

Not so keen on this as I was on Symphonia, and there are a few borrowed elements from it and Dawn of the New World

Two worlds, only enough mana for one to prosper at a time, Lord of Spirits/Monsters using a decoy to draw out its enemies.

Played as Milla, which means there's a huge chunk of story missing in the middle of the game after the cruiseship. Last speech before the final bossfight amounts to

I don't want to look bad in front of my crush
which isn't the most inspiring sentiment. And Leia's utterly thankless work is almost entirely unrewarded. I'm not talking shipping, she deserves much more respect than the game gives, especially in Jude's route (Youtubed some of it)

such as taking a bullet for Jude and then having to listen two people making long speeches about how great Milla is as she bleeds on the ground. Priorities, guys.

What's the sequel like?

Well I liked Xillia a lot so I don't know how useful my opinion will be - but I thought it was good, though not as good as the first. There's a lot of good "what happens to the world after such an event" consequences and stuff. The combat and experience systems are streamlined. They have a lot of fun with alternate dimensions and timelines. The characters continue to be enjoyable (if you enjoyed them the first time around), with fairly believable results from the first game.

The bad: a mute protagonist. You get to make dialogue choices in cutscenes, but he's otherwise pretty hard to get into. Also, there are multiple endings, which is fine, but I HATE that the game clearly gives preference to one as the "real" ending, when there is absolutely no reason to do so. So, obviously, I think one of the other endings is superior. And that's because the game ends with a SERIOUSLY morally grey choice. And that's definitely to the game's credit! It's a real decision, and one that I really had to think on and reflected afterwards. It's just that it makes it all that much more annoying when the game presents you with a problem with no perfect answers and implicitly goes "But...you picked the wrong one."

Anyway, if you liked Xillia more than you disliked it, I would say play it. If you didn't, I wouldn't really bother. The story is definitely darker. Quite a bit darker. So if that helps your decision in anyway.

That... sounds good, although I'm not wild about the mute protagonist.

One thing Tales has been good at so far, is that massive world altering actions never come without consequences.

I didn't hate Xillia, didn't quite love it.

The line "This seems different from his usual betrayals" is worth a lot on its own.

The last game i beat was Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness, to be honest I played out the last third of the game just because i beat the previous two and felt bad leaving this one uncompleted. It is the worst Star Ocean game I have played, the world is generic, the characters are shallow and there is next to nothing in the ending outside of "we killed the bad guy". I did enjoy having what felt like an old school JRPG to play, but Star Ocean 3 had a much more developed universe (the latest one is only one planet) characters, crafting and battle system than this one, which is stupid considering Star Ocean 3 is 12 years old.

In short, for this type of game stick with the Tales series, they do everything better (athough I didn't like Zesteria either)

Great game, enjoyed it a fair bit more than the first one. Elle is adorable, I loved her from the moment she
framed me for kidnapping
Ludger is (mostly) mute but actually has a fair bit of character from his actions. Julius also great.

Accidentally stumbled on the good ending. Was toying with paying off the debt, then I found out what the reward was and couldn't be bothered. Paid off about two mil before the endgame.

Found the battles much easier this time, stopped using Chromatus most of the time except in dire emergency as it was overpowered. Very rarely encountered a challenging fight after the early sections.

Final dungeon technically short but very frustrating. Enjoyably so, though.

^I generally switched to Milla whenever possible just because I was so used to playing her in the first game :P

I said awhile ago I was starting an attempt to finally finish Phantasy Star IV, an RPG I had started as a kid. I finally did today. (It only took me 19 hours, I just hadn't had many chances to play it.) It's definitely got a rudimentary plot and none of the characters are particularly noteworthy, but I enjoyed the setting and art direction immensely. Music's good too.
