I do not understand how this guy has physically assaulted players 3 times on the pitch and is still allowed to play. A 9 match ban might be deemed quite high, but he should be fucking off the pitch altogether. What the hell is wrong with these people.

I have faith that we'll make it to the semis :desu:

Suarez needs to be evaluated if he's not going to be banned for life. There is something seriously wrong with a guy who commits the same grave offense time and again right in front of everyone's eyes. Such a waste of talent.

FIFA is a lot like the NFL, they think because they make a shitload of money they're above being proactive and fair about these things.

I would say the NFL's problem is with trying to protect players from themselves. I've covered the NFL for a number of years and it is amazing how many times you will see stories of young NFL players talking about how they didn't tell the coaches they had a concussion because they didn't want to be taken out of the game, or something similar, and the headline right below that is one about a retired player suing for better health coverage in retirement. I guess I'm just saying its a culture thing, AND these athletes are used to getting away with things because they can kick or throw a ball better than most so they get coddled.

Suarez would get much more severe punishment had he done that on multiple occasions in the street.
It's a disgrace he is being let off so lightly in such a professional environment.

FIFA as an organisation has a piss poor concept of professionalism. They're all too happy to wave off controversies as "all part of the game." Football has developed a culture nowadays where it's okay to be a prick as a player so long as they score goals or play well, and FIFA have been very complacent in allowing that culture to grow, s'why repeat offenders like Suarez get off so lightly. He's too good to punish properly.

FIFA could learn a lot from the International Rugby Board, who by all accounts run a very tight ship and have little tolerance for poor player behaviour. There are other, better run sports organisations out there too, but the IRB just came into my head first because Rugby is properly second to soccer for popularity in Europe, where FIFA sort of makes its base.

I was speaking more generally about International Football, but yeah FIFA's reputation is hardly the best and this is certainly going to cement that rep.

Oh trust me, they are worth ranting about. Even people unfamiliar with their track record and general 'We do what we want' mentaility are seething right now after the Saurez incident.
I kind of feel bad for Liverpool fans because I know they are going to get a lot of stick next season for this. I can't imagine any fans being happy that Suarez is a part of their English club. >.<

^Half of Mr Octo's friends are Liverpool fans, and they seem to have a blind spot the size of the fucking moon when it comes to Suarez - plus the club itself defended him over that racism stuff too.

so liek we won vs Mexico and got into the quarter finals. I thought it was a much better match than the last couple, and also Mexico seemed a lot better and had a lot more opportunities than we did. We won by the powerz of sheer luck, and a tactical fall in the penalty zone, :monster:

Also Costa Rica winning their match against Greece in penalties despite the fact that they played most of the match with 10 men is pretty damn impressive.

Kompany tweeted the American goalkeeper an acknowledgement of an awesome game on his part, I like him :awesome:

That match was mighty craic altogether :D

Sucks for 'Murica, though it's not like they're ready to take on the soccer football superpowerz. The USMNT isn't going to be considered a huge enough threat in this generation :desu: But the younger players look promising for sure

Some heartbreaking news

Neymar ruled out of World Cup due to fractured vertebra

A crushing blow to team Brasil, esp that they're facing Germany next week.

Thiago Silva will also be out for the game due to accumulation of yellow cards. Without them Brasil has very little chance of beating Germany.

Sooo fuckin' good! The whole thing just kicked so much ass!

I'm heartbroken for Costa Rica, the last of the underdog teams is gone
