The one thing I have against GX and 5Ds is a very simple thing - remember when Yugi faces Marik and Strings, and he figures out how to crack Marik's combo and make him deck out? I still get chills watching that to this day, to see Yugi pull an epic comeback like that and triumph over Marik's seemingly flawless strategy was amazing. Marik slips out of every elaborate counter-combo and defense Yugi has and just laughs as he pushes him further back into a corner, and in the end Yugi doesn't find a way out of Marik's combo - he finds a way to turn it against him. And Marik just stands there with a look of horror as he watches Yugi create an infinite loop that leads to his defeat.

Nothing I've seen thus far in GX or 5Ds has captured that same feeling for me.

I take it back. Yusei drawing five Tuners in a row and destroying the Machine Emperor brought back that feeling for me.

Really? I thought Yusei doing that was just silly, "power of friends", Crimson Dragon BS. :monster:

5 tuners off the top of his deck on the first turn he gets to use Shooting Star Dragon's effect? Really?

It's enough Yusei pulls out new cards almost every duel out of his bumbum, but I mean Christ.

Welcome to Yugioh. Need we pull out the clip where Yami Yugi topdecks more than a half-dozen monster cards in a row against Weevil, or his win against Noah? How about Jaden's win against Kagemaru? That one is my favorite, the writers run out of ways to keep Jaden's hand supplied and go "screw it" and make a new card that quite literally acts like any other card they need in order to make sure Jaden wins.

The hero topdecking an impossible combo to win is nothing new, I expect it by now. What makes it worth watching is when they do it with style. We've spent all of Season 2 watching the heroes be decimated by the Machine Emperor cards and Yusei trying to figure out how to Accel Synchro, so there was a lot of build-up leading up to Placido getting blasted into scrap.

They weren't all a specific type of monster (all tuners) though...Nothing's weird about drawing monster cards in a regular deck. It's the fact of finding 5 tuner monsters in a row that's ridiculous, coupled with the fact the Crimson Dragon will stack your deck whenever you're in a bind.

His win against Noah is thanks to the wonderful hax draw power of the days of yester-year. Drawing 6 cards out of your deck will give anyone a miracle if your deck is even halfway built.

...And bringing up one of the worst duels in GX only further's my point in terms of bad duel writing. :monster:

I sure didn't see any meaningful build up. Looked hamfisted to me; he beat the guy in a single turn after using the card from "god." It's not like Yusei even needed to Accel Synchro to beat the Machine Emperors in the first place, had he used two synchro monsters in his deck already. But I guess that wouldn't nearly be as dramatic. Synchro summon Turbo Warrior or Junk Archer and Machine Emperor phails hard.

Wow, someone actually beat me to updating this thread. I'm shocked!

Yes, I was about to post about it tonight. It's badass. Zork versus Atem. There's also some new artwork. Mai from the bunkoban cover.

2nlfha8.png

That's just....awesome. I so wish this was a poster or wall scroll.

There's also some new design sketches from 5Ds. Of Yeager and Dark Signer Godwin. And holy shit, why did the anime animators NOT stay completely in line with Takahashi's initial design?! The lineart makes Godwin look like a badass, not a balloon buffoon.

There's also a video that shows how Takahashi draws, and its pretty nifty. A very cool update.

I just noticed that. Explain, Mako.

And how did you get that image up so quickly? Does the site allow you to save the images now?

Link to the pics? I can't find them on the site.

EDIT - From Wikipedia.

Takahashi enjoys reading American comics, and Hellboy is his favorite American comic book character. Takahashi and Mike Mignola, the creator of the Hellboy comic book series, once participated in an art exchange. Takahashi drew a picture of Hellboy with Yugi Mutou's hairdo, a Millennium Puzzle, and a duel disk. Mignola drew a picture of Hellboy wearing a Millennium Puzzle and a Yugi T-Shirt, and the two exchanged their artwork.

This I wanna see.

What's...there to explain? XD

Zork lower half, has a monstrous snake attached. And yes, the joke's been done where it's been compared to his cock. Takahashi himself has said he wondered what the hell he was smoking when he designed him, and in the re-done bunkoban release of the YGO manga, he made Zork's snake become more like a tail...wrapping around his waist. So yeah. :monster:

No, the website doesn't let you save images, someone else just merged the artwork together and put it up for everyone to see.

I happen to own the copy of Shonen Jump that has that artwork in it. It's awesome. Here's someone's scan of it.

Many many pages ago, Mako, you asked for my deck curious about how old my cards were. Now that I'm home I managed to find them in my room. I do have a few slightly newer cars that I presume I won or traded off the kids at the daycamp.

I'm sure my deck pales in comparison to Mr. Still-wins-championships. I ask you to keep in mind that its been years since I worked on it, and my fiercest opponents were middle-schoolers :monster:

Dragon deck which I apparently fancied turning into a Dragon/Fire deck at some point:

Oh wow, it's like it's 1999 or something. I'm looking at a time capsule here. :awesome:

Okay, well a lot of things have changed since you've played the game. Monster Reborn, and Pot of Greed are banned. So those would have to go. You could try "Call of the Haunted" or "Trade In" instead.

Now we're just gonna have to tune up your deck. I'll give you a taste of how I run dragons.

My main card is Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon. He's the heart and soul of the deck. He can special summon himself by removing from play a dragon on the field, while also being able to be normal summoned as well. His purpose is to chew bubble gum, kick ass, and special summon his friends from the grave or hand. Preferably the graveyard.

And Future Fusion is the way I get the dragons to the grave in the first place. By trying to fusion summon one of the biggest monsters in YGO. Five Headed Dragon. By declaring him the fusion target with Future Fusion, I get to dump 5 dragons from my deck to the grave. My targets are usually Prime Material Dragon (for protection), Totem Dragon (because it allows me to tribute summon my dragons), Red Eyes Wyvern (so if Red Eyes dies, Wyvern will bring it back) and then Genesis Dragon, which allows me to add any Dragon from my grave to the hand by pitching a dragon. Preferably White Stone of Legend which allows me to add a Blue Eyes White Dragon from my deck to the hand.

Another dragon that's key is Light and Darkness Dragon. When this guy drops, you basically control the field and really screw your opponent up. And then when he dies, he brings back another monster from the grave. A very key card which I summon off of Totem. Then recycle with Genesis Dragon, and then uses with Totem. Totem Dragon is just an extremely good card.

So the deck excels at basically special summoning huge monsters, smashing face, and controlling the field. Another dragon I love is Koa'ki Meiru Drago, because it shuts down light and dark special summons, which are the attributes of most of the dangerous decks out there.

We do have one thing in common though. We both love using Blue Eyes White Dragon :monster:

What. What?!. I knew about Raigeki and stuff like that being banned but Monster Reborn?! Wow. Why? You can only have one.

As for Pot of Greed, I think they just banned it because they got sick of people explaining to their opponents what it did :monster:

If I still dueled I would post my decklist. I used to run VWXYZ-Cyber Dragons, but I only ever had one Cyber Dragon. If I'd had three copies (which was legal back when I played) I probably would have done much better.

Then one time I built a Bakura-Fiend deck, and ran a Kaiba deck on Halloween when I went as him. I think I've still got a pic of me in my Kaiba costume kicking around somewhere, if you guys wanna see. Not an awesome costume but not bad either.

Generic monster revival at no cost kinda got a bit silly. Especially with the new cards and combos that are out. The game's gotten really fast paced, and while I'd love a Monster Reborn back in my deck, it'd be hella abused right now.

It's why Dark Magician of Chaos is banz0red and I don't think he'll be back...for a very long time, if ever.

As for Pot of Greed, I think they just banned it because they got sick of people explaining to their opponents what it did :monster:

LOL. It got banned because it was one of the best and broken cards in the game. A free draw of two cards, a plus 1 for no cost is pretty awesome, and insane. That card wins games.

Incidentally, the Duelist Pack Kaiba had one of the coolest looking reprints of some of the most memorable banned cards ever.

@DrakeClawfang

Cyber Dragon's at 2 now, did you know that? Plus Cyber Dragon Zwei is an awesome substitute for the third. You should try building it again and adding new stuff.

And you in a Kaiba costume. This I gotta see :monster:

Is the Dark Magician of Chaos and the Magician of Black Chaos the same monster?

Yes and no. That's an example of a "retrained" monster. A monster that looks exactly the same as before but carries a different name and usually, upgraded effect.

See also, "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning," "Obnoxious Celtic Guardian," "Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight," "Enraged Battle Ox," "Harpie Lady 1/2/3," and "Skull Archfiend of Lightning."

What's funny is that most "retrained" monsters are monsters from the classic era, who belonged to the original YGO characters. They were originally quite useless in terms of competitiveness but they then got upgraded. :monster:

Okay. Someone seriously needs to fucking tell me where to get the YGO 10th Anniversary keychains. Right. Fucking. Now. Goddamnit are those fan made or official? I can't fucking get a straight answer.

These, I do own, actually. :awesome:

I have the entire set of Jump Festa Coca Cola figures that were released years ago. Naruto, One Piece, etc. I got the entire set just for the YGO figures, lol.

But yeah, that's all I got. And I seriously want to know where to get those fucking keychains.

Those keychain figures are sold as arcade game prizes; apparently the only place you can get them is by playing one of those claw machines, or you can search for ボールチェーン (ball chain) at http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/ . Or if you cba:

http://search.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/...%A7%A1%BC%A5%F3+++%CD%B7%B5%BA%B2%A6&auccat=0

^ Those are all the Yu-Gi-Oh! keyhains being auctioned off right now. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if they ship it outside of Japan. I think they do, though.

EDIT: Yes, all of the merchandise found on that photobucket link is official.

When a monster's banned, that means its so fucking hardcore and good, it was too good for the game. It's a force too powerful for competitive decks to run. It's a badge of honor if anything. One of the most badass broken monsters to ever grace the game.

And fuck you, "Dark Magician of Chaos" sounds better. :monster:
