Those keychain figures are sold as arcade game prizes; apparently the only place you can get them is by playing one of those claw machines, or you can search for ボールチェーン (ball chain) at http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/ . Or if you cba:

http://search.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/...%A7%A1%BC%A5%F3+++%CD%B7%B5%BA%B2%A6&auccat=0

^ Those are all the Yu-Gi-Oh! keyhains being auctioned off right now. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if they ship it outside of Japan. I think they do, though.

EDIT: Yes, all of the merchandise found on that photobucket link is official.

Holy shit, I'm getting these. I'll just use one of those sites that bid on Yahoo Japan for you, and then ship it to you for a fee, and the cost of the item. Fucking win. Thank you so much.

You know what I think would be an awesome idea? Yugioh reproduced but much darker, darker than evil the original Japanese version. Yami Yugi is quite literally possessing Yugi's body and at first is almost as sinister and manipulative as Yami Bakura, he has no regard at all for Yugi's friends and only sees Yugi as a vessel. Then as the series goes on, he starts to cool off and by the time we get to Season 4 we get the friendship bond which up to that point is strained and fragile.

Dunno, just an idea I had.

No, it would build up into the friendship and true duelist themes like the original, it would just be a larger build-up as opposed to where the characters began.

I dunno, it just seems to be an example of Ron the Death Eater to me. I'm used to fandom for whatever reason always trying to demonize Atem and make him to be this cold, ruthless, egotistical bastard who abuses Yugi, is mean/ignores Anzu, cares only about winning and tries to take advantage of Yugi and etc etc etc. Never really liked it.

The whole "Dark Atem" thing was done enough with Doma, and it really doesn't need anymore cementing. Why make him dark, when he's already dark enough,, lighting people on fire, and having them explode? :monster:

Good lord, man. This is not YGO Begins, YGO Genesis Evangelion or The Dark Yami. ; ___ ;

I wish I could win a fucking Dark End Dragon. That was the previous YGO SJ Championship prize card. Worth at least 1000 bucks.

Now its Darklord series of monsters. Since its three cards, they're worth around 3000 dollars. :monster:

Incidentally, last weekend I finally won my YGO Nationals invite, so I'll be competing at the Nationals championship come July.

Good luck!

But a card worth 3,000 dollars. Damn.

And seconding Force's question.

How do those work anyway? Do people watch? Is there an announcer? Or have they mastered hologram technology already?

You just play the card game at a table :monster:

Judges only watch the top 8 finals. Other duels are not watched or supervised by the judges. Judges will only come if called.

LOL no there isn't an announcer. That would get quite annoying and chaotic seeing as how there are usually over 100 people at regionals, all playing simultaneously at each table. XD

I wish for the day solid vision technology becomes reality and we could actually have holographic duels or at the very least, duels at specialty made tables that do have holographic or video projections of the cards. That'd be so kickass.

And yeah, I'll need the luck. Shit's hard, especially with a stupid ass deck that kills you on the first turn, before you even get a chance to respond. :awesome:

Not even a seperate scorekeeper?

What about the final duel? Does anyone watch that besides judges, is there fanfare?

Each duelist has to keep track of their own life points. Either with a calculator or a pen and paper.

And yeah, the final duel of the tournament is usually the one where everyone sits and watches. :monster:

Top 8 is usually the goal for most, since that's when you get eligible for prizes. Usually the prizes range from collectible prize mats and binders for regionals, and then actual prize cards for higher scale events.

Interesting. Do the players soliliquize for long stretches of time in the middle of the game? :P

Seriously though, is the final duel up on screens and stuff or are there not that many people there?

There are breaks between each round. Usually they either chat, trade, or do other things.

No, but at Nationals and Worlds, its a pretty big damn deal, since that's where the stakes are the highest. The official YGO site does tournament recaps and articles on the winning duelists and other unique duelists they decide to feature though. :monster:

Plus, they'll even post deck lists of those who topped as well.

"Worlds?" You mean you could play someone that doesn't even speak the same language? Wow.

Sorry for the 20 Questions, just don't know how any of that stuff works. Pretty interesting though, good luck. When is your tournament?

The biggest tournament of them all. The World Championship. The language barrier isn't that big of an issue, since most know what the cards are and all. But yeah. :monster:

It shouldn't be surprising that most champions are Asian :awesomonster: I don't think there's been a US champion in like 7 years. The highest we made it was second place in 2006.

No problem. The National Championship is July 6 to the 11th, I believe.

No, I scrubbed out :monster:

Fucking Frog FTK (first turn kill) and X-Sabers ate me alive. It's kinda hard to win when you don't even get a turn to do anything.

But I came back with some neat new Duel Terminal cards and several hard to get playmats. Plus I finally got to see the Mall of America so it was great stuff. A fun experience despite the current format sucking balls. XD

I've neglected updating this thread regarding things actually going on with YGO proper, so I figure I'd do that now, since I cba.

There have been a shit-ton of updates on the Studio Dice website for example. A lot of new gallery portraits and character artwork. They all look pretty neat. Furthermore, the YGO anniversary artworks done by Takahashi have been given some nice backgrounds. Backgrounds I wish were actually included on the actual cards. Also the design sketches have been updated. It makes me wish we could actually see Takahashi's vision for these characters in the anime proper. They look so damn good.

Takahashi also has a blog now too.
And Horoko's been translating it. You can find the translations here on his journal. Here are some translations for the captions of the actual gallery images, which are commentary from Takahashi himself. You can find the translations for his more recent images in the more recent journal entries.

Oh, and this nifty movie shows just how he draws Yugi nowadays. I actually have the July V-Jump issue that has this image of Yugi on the cover. Along with the collectible deck box and stuff as well.

So yeah, there you go. Enjoy an' shit. :monster:
