Avatar: The Last Airbender & Korra (SPOILERS)

I have seen this tumblr post, and I have to mention it here, too: did the last confrontation in episode four remind of a gang rape? I know that rape is a difficult and sensitive subject and the last thing I want to do is trivialise someone's trauma, but I couldn't help but think about it when the Equalists attacked Korra. I was terrified for her.

Then Amon came and made things even worse: "I can take away your banding any time I want, just not now". If we think that rape is a form of dominance and abuse, taking away someone's bedning parallels well. Not to mention that it makes Amon's line even more horrifying.

Am I stupid, should I shut up...? >>;

Regarding the whole shipping mess, I don't see Masami lasting, simply because of the way it's presented. Quick, based on the exterior and kinda fickle. Which is fine and dandy in itself, it's normal and it happens all the time (not to mention that physical attraction is where it starts), but in a fictional story with fictional characters, I don't see it surviving (and I don't think that Asami will have Yue's fate...)

However, I don't give a shit about romantic!Makorra as much I give for friendhip!Makorra. Mako better become a better friend to Korra before anything romantic happens, or else I will blow a casket. He has been a jerk towards Korra for being a fangirl, yet when Asami is the same, he treats her nicely because... she's hot, I guess. Oh, how mature, Mako.

Then again, yay for character flaws! Give chances for character development. So, I'm OK with it, as long as it's portrayed as a genuine flaw.

Asami... I hope we see her having bad issues herself, otherwise she's a thrownaway character like WHOA. Character, please!

No I don't think that's too extreme a comparison, I agreed with the tumblr post as well. Though I don't think that's where the creators were going for it can be siphoned out due to how dark the scene was in general.

I agree, Korra needs some damn friends! Tenzin and Naga, and (only at one point) Bolin, were the only ones there for her! She needs support!!! She was so lonely and afraid that episode and I can only hope they start bonding more as a team ep 5

Regarding Korra's lack of friends, you have to take into account how different EVERYTHING is in this modern world. Aang and all of them lived with one another and were together nearly ALL of the time and simpler ideals were valued much more. Korra lives with Tenzin and only does pro-bending with Mako and Bo Lin (I spell his name like this because this is how it should be spelled, imho). Granted, the boys and her are on good terms and friends in a sense, but you can't expect them to be BFFs overnight. The creators know what good character development is and they aren't going to just rush that for the sake of one character or another regardless of who they are and what they represent for the story at large.

honestly i feel a little irritated with how cold mako was with korra like she just helped save your brother even your GIRLFRIEND is being nicer to korra than you and she doesn't know her personally come on dude

I saw the rape analogy/comparison on TV Tropes as well. I am very ambivalent on how I feel about that comparison due to the severity of the subject. Part of me feels that one should not compare situations to rape if rape is not involved, but on the other hand as a fictional/literary device/analysis part of me can somewhat see the comparison. I think it requires a great deal of stretching to view it in that light.

I had an teacher in high school who would have relished the chance to make that kind of comparison and how it relates to her coming of age and all that.

I didn't think of it myself when I watched it, but I do see how someone could make that comparison.

But now all I can think of is that excited look on my teacher's face and it's like, noo... :sadpanda:

Nick are such trolls, on tumblr today they put up a "makorra" picture from episode 3 and a "masami" picture from episode 4 and asked "which team? Team Makorra or Team Masami? Discuss!"

..Why would they instigate like that? Damn trolls, as if romance is the main reason why I watch Korra :|

Actually with Korrantion, I think Bryke have more direct control of what is put up. I think is more a case of the creators themselves trolling the fan base, instead of just the "faceless corporation" of Nick.
Perhaps Bryke have decided to accept the insanity of their fanbase this time around (I believe TV tropes did describe the A:TLA fandom as one of the most smut/shipping-obssessed fantoms in existence)

. And they did openly admit beforehand that there would be a cheesy teen love-triangle in the series. Why not go whole hog with the "Twilight-esque" fans? Doesn't change the actual quality of the episodes.

I don't think they do actually..I mean sometimes korranation re-blogs bryans stuff but that's it. He has his own tumblr after all, I think this is pretty much Nick's doing. The twitter post about Masami that was mocking Makorra shippers just reasserts this to me.

And that clip! Honestly I was mostly paying attention to how much of a BAMF Korra was being, SHE IS FLAWLESS. You can tell her air-bending techniques are getting a lot better, she dodged EVERYTHING. Plus the bros are still bros(it looks like a clip of the end of the episode) so I probably won't mind ep 5 now that I know the bros will be cool in the end :3

Really? While I know KorraNation is not completely autonomous of Nickelodeon, I thought Bryke had some direct input as to what could get posted on it.

Eh, either way, someone knows how to drum up hype for the show...even it is shallow and malicious, it does show results.

Because Team Edward vs Team Jacob worked for Twilight.

Also, Team Peeta vs Team Gale kind of worked for Hunger Games even though the love triangle in that series had about as much relevance as Aeris vs Tifa. ¬_¬

And Tenzin's family is once again hilarious. You know I feel like the kids fill the "Sokka-role" better than Bolin.

On a serious note while clips are nice, I really wish they could come from an official source. Nickelodeon really needs to find the leaker and fire them (if the said leaker is an employee and not a hacker). Also does it seem like the first things that always get leaked are romance-related? Maybe the leaker likes to stir the shippers craziness?

Apparently it's not someone at Nick. Nick uploads the episode on Wednesday to their websites servers, and someone hacks until they get something out of it. /bad explanation it's really more complicated but..

It's just dumb, the leaks aren't even needed, they just make me more anxious and annoyed. :/
