The opening was great: the FFs (Fire Ferrets) have improved and their first match was a sight for sore eyes.
Jinora and Ikki were... well, adorable. Ikki's version of events did happen... in Sailor Moon, though.
The "date" between Korra and Bolin was very enjoyable as well. They're bros, end of. Too bad for Bolin that Korra has the same ideas: bros.
I think the Korra x Mako relationship is handled really well. And it just reinforces my initial thoughts of Mako's character; he simply doesn't show his true feelings easily. That doesn't mean he doesn't have them. He simply sucks in showing them. Sounds like a chocobo head I know...
Tahno was an enjoyable douchebag as well. With a sexy voice. Also, "private lessons"... IS THIS REALLY A CHILDREN'S SHOW???? oO;
Mako is Katara: confused about his feelings towards the Avatar, having many love interests. Let's see if history will repeat itself, like with Aang and Katara.
Bolin drowning his rejection in noodles... good metaphor for alcohol, there. Speaking of which... I'm sorry, but I could never take Bolin's crush on Korra seriously. It was obviously played for giggles and Bolin's reaction in the Makorra kiss made me sure: he acted like a five year old. And no, I'm not criticizing him in the slightest. The guy's just honest with his feelings (striking contrast with Mako here) However, the creators chose to show this particular reaction and it was surely comical, even though yeah, Bolin did end up heart broken.
And the resolution: I really, really REALLY liked how they handled the whole situation. They're a BIG mess, but this mess does help them in the end: everything's out, and we progress from here. We're not douchebags, we're simply very confused teenagers, trying to figure out how things are going.
I think it was a really good episode in the emotional/relationship avenue, even if the relationships were not romantic. I loved Mako and Bolin's relationship, too. No girl will separate them. And Korra IS their friend and they won't lose her because they are in their mess.
So, maybe the pro-bending took a backseat. Amon and the Equalists were not even brought up. However, all three, Korra, Mako and Bolin progressed and were explored as characters. And that's more important than anything in MY book.
