Avatar: The Last Airbender & Korra (SPOILERS)

You know, I had this theory that Asami is an equalist who made sure that the FFs were in the championship, because Amon would bend the champs away (and the FFs would win if the WBs hadn't cheated), thus Amon would defeat the Avatar in a public event. What's more powerful of a message than that?

However, she has come to genuinely care and love the FFs (that "I feel so safe with you" line threw me off - WHY IS SAFETY A BIG DEAL FOR YOU, GURL?), so she's conflicted, thus being a female Zuko of sorts: making all the bad decisions, working later to fix them. Thus, we'll have back story, motivations and character development.

Seriously, I can't see her being relevant to the plot in any other way. And being "Mako's crush" hasn't served her character well until now.

Now, I'll move on to the truly interesting parts:

THAT EPISODE WAS AWESOME.

Yeah, I had guessed what would happen, more or less, that with Tahno's bending being taken away and all, but it was powerful, nonetheless. whyamifeelingbadfortahnothedouche?

And Amon... as if he hasn't established himself as a serious threat until now, this number truly put him under THE threatening light. Bring it on, season second half!

Tenzin's last line was Awesome: "The Republic City is at war" HECK YEAH. Show me the city chaos, Bryke!

Also, what's with Korra seeing Aang and the gang when hit? Do we have to plummer the Christ outta her to get the whole story (that's both sick and hilarious in my mind, btw)? I'm also convinced that these flashbacks have to do with that criminal mentioned in the previous episode. Korra has to learn the story to understand how to deal with Amon, maybe?

TOPH!!! ADULT TOPH LOOKED AWESOME.

BUT THEIR WILL BE TWO NEW EPISODES NEXT WEEK! And the season is halfway over...

THERE WILL???? HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS, WOMAN??? SHARE THE KNOWLEDGE!

Pleeeeeaaaaaaaaaaase???? *ω*

I can never do the water-bending move! I don't even understand what I'm supposed to do? I drag the symbol but halfway there it just drops and i can't get it back D:

I had trouble with it too at first, then I realized you have to move it slowly, like when you're playing the water-bending mini-game in the park. All the pro-bending mini-games are just previous bending mini-games repackaged.

Anyways, I loved this episode, great action and tension all around. I was actually surprised the Fire Ferrets ended up not winning. I loved the Lin and Korra tag team as well, the bender-Equalist fights were awesome. The flashbacks are getting more and more mysterious too. I wonder if Yakone is the mystery man in the flash-back and if he is connected to Amon in some way? Great funny moments from Tenzin and Bolin & Pabu as well.

As for the tumblr hate on Asami Sato, a lot of it is ridiculous (so many people on tumblr are so quick to call the female characters really sexist/misogynistic names) and I don't think she is an Equalist...but I do think she and/or her father will have some sort of "skeletons in their closet" element to them. Like the Equalists may have infiltrated Future Industries and Hiroshi and/or Asami are somehow aware of it but have covered it up for some reason.

Ha, that is hilarious.
It is uncanny how all the bad guys in the show all have super deep voices. You have Steve Blum, Lance Henriksen, and Rami Malek voicing Amon, The Lieutenant, and Tahno respectively.

idk, then there's still the whole 'I won't make you a martyr' thing he told korra like two episodes ago. removing the avatar's powers in front of a buttload of people is going to for certain make her a huge martyr. While yeah, no one says bad guys don't go against their words, killing off korra's bending would definitely make people more united against him.

Loved the episode. Korra and Lin were incredibly awesome together. I do think Hiroshi may have something to do with the Equalist, it makes sense with the technology they're using.

Yeah, I also think the Amon and the Equalists will have some sort of connection to the Future Industries, their tech is extremely advanced (did anyone think that the packing scene setting in the episode looked similar to the Future Industries location in the Republic City game?) and I wonder if it was a deliberate move on Bryke's part that they omitted any scene of Hiroshi Sato and Asami Sato being captured or escaping the arena considering we even saw Shiro Shinobi get electrocuted (with his own narration).

Yeah i mentioned that above it's suspicious :shifty:

A guy who works for the show got a tumblr recently, and opened up his ask. He recently responded to a question about Bolin's profile on the nick game that hinted at one of the brothers dying( it said something along the lines of: They would willingly sacrifice themselevs for the other) the guy avoided the question and it's making me really nervous.

I would not be able to handle it if one of the brothers died. I think I would just die :(

William "Bill" Rinaldi, the martial arts coordinator for the series, right? The guy who was a reference to The Doorman's character design.

Yeah, I saw that post as well. But while Bryke did say that LoK would be "darker and edgier" than A:TLA, I don't think they would able to have one of the main characters have an on-screen death on Nickelodeon. They closest they got in onscreen killings in A:TLA was Jet and Kya (technically in flashback) and I suppose Yue and Roku (but those were either sacrificial deaths or deaths resulting from the environment). It just seems unlikely that Bryke would actually kill Mako or Bolin. Severely injure or remove their bending I could see, but not death. But I could be wrong and maybe Nickelodeon's censors are letting more slide with LoK.

Since there was no promo for next week's episode (which I think is called "Aftermath") at the end of today's episode, again, for anyone interested in unaired episode speculation this tumblr post (same one as before) provides a good compilation of remaining unaired episode scenes (only six scenes): http://halfempty15.tumblr.com/post/22910669642/updated-collection-of-remaining-unaired-scenes

Really interesting analysis of the significance of electric gloves the Equalists used in the last episode from an A.V. Club article:
Though the Equalist attack on the stadium is a big deal, the introduction of the electric gloves might be more significant, as they serve the same function as guns on a network that can’t show guns. And historically, the introduction of guns into a society is usually followed or accompanied by huge societal changes. Talking about the gloves, which can be hidden in a bag of popcorn and take out multiple cops, Amon says that “now, anyone can hold the power of a chi-blocker in their hand.” Affordable, concealable, multi-shot guns like the Colt .45 revolver were known as the “great equalizers” of the 19th-century American West, technology that evened out the advantages of those lucky enough to be born with physical strength. I’d bet that even the name “Equalists” is a reference to this by the writers.
I really can't believe I did not make this connection earlier though, in hindsight it is an obvious metaphor/analogue.

I was able to watch episode six yesterday, and quite honestly, if every other episode in this show is this good my head might implode. :monster:

Korra and Bei Fong teaming up was the best thing this show has done so far. I wish this show could be all about these two kicking ass together. Of course, it probably won't go that way, but still. It was quite awesome.

Also, Bei Fong being the other woman Tenzin was with that Pema was talking about just absolutely tickles me beyond belief. I love it. :monster:

Did you get that from Bill Rinaldi's tumblr? He is such a nice guy for interacting with the fandom.

Still, shame there will be no new episode for Memorial Day weekend.

New clip of episode 7 from Nick.com. Featuring a power-stripped Tahno. Unfortunately Nick.com's media players work irregularly so it may not work for everyone (has not worked for myself yet).
Here is a tumblr video copy of the clip that seems to work: http://misguided-angel.tumblr.com/post/23077064544/legend-of-korra-clip-tahno-looks-so-broken
It's like even Tahno's hair was stripped of its "power".

Hiroshi being in that clip just makes me more suspicious about his possible involvement with the Equalists.

You may really be on to something, the episode description (from TV Guide webistes) of "The Aftermath" seems to point suspicion towards both of the Satos: "Korra begins to suspect that an ally is working for the Equalists."
The only ones that really fits that description (that would make narrative sense) are Hiroshi and Asami Sato. Tarrlok is suspicious to be sure but for different reasons, he is scummy for being politically self-motivated and his goals would not line up with the Equalsits, and he would not really be considered an ally or friend (some descriptors use friend instead of ally) towards Korra.

I doubt is Tarrlok. The fact that neither Hiroshi or Asami haven't had any real plot relevance to the story yet makes me think even more that it's because they're really allies with the Equalists.

If the Satos do turn out to be aiding the Equalist's, what I am most interested in is how they are aiding them. Are they doing it willingly? Are they somehow being forced to comply with the Equalists? If they are willingly helping the Equalists, are they starting to have doubts now because Asami genuinely developed feelings for Mako and the destruction Amon is causing has amped up extremely? There is a lot different ways Bryke could use the Satos with the Equalists.

I truly hope LoK receives a full OST (along with the original series...). The music for episode 6 was an audio banquet for my ears.
