Perhaps Tseng was also referring to how Cloud had been just a kid when he went into the Shinra Mansion. In terms of his mental and social development, he really is just a kid.

True enough.

That's because Tseng knows nothing about the grand scheme of things (he needs to play Dissidia XDDD). Plus, Tseng might be on his late twenties/early thirties, so a guy of 21 is a kid to him.

lol Maybe he does need to play Dissidia. :monster:

Also I'd say early thirties at LEAST. He'd have to be.

True, I didn't think of it that way. But would Tseng really think of it that way?

This stuff has remained consistently good. Hard to believe that he's only 1/3 of the way through it, though (27 pages of 75 in the actual OtWtaS book). This is going to be a long one.
Wow! This is a really long story. I really like it because it's filling in a lot of the gaps in the storyline, and providing insight into what Shinra was doing. So far, we've only seen the story from Cloud/Avalanche's side.

Yeah, no matter that his skin is flawless and smooth like a baby's :monster:

He surely thought that. Remember that he saw how Cloud was delivered to the Shinra Manor after the Nibelheim Incident with only 16, and he knew exactly that both Cloud and Zack had been isolated those years.

All of the Turks are considerably older than they look, with the exception of Elena. That's just the way their world works....
Yes, I agree: Cloud is a kid to Tseng; yes, I also agree, Cloud has a severe case of arrested development thanks to all the years in the Shinra Mansion.

Talking about Elena,
I loved how in the Case of Shinra she tried to confess her love to Tseng, but failed miserably, also, I loved how she chose a "petite one piece dress", maybe she was trying to impress her boss :monster:

Crisis Core makes me wish their birthdays were all "known." Especially Reno and Rude. I didn't expect them to be as old as they probably are.

True, but I guess I was just curious if Tseng really meant the fact that Cloud was in the Mansion in a tube during the most pivotal years of his pubescent development of if it was his actual physical age he was thinking of.

Anyway I just thought it was funny that being "just a kid" doesn't stop at fourteen in the world of FFVII.

Case of Shinra - the first OTWTAS I've really enjoyed since Barret and Tifa. Great job, xcomp.

I am puzzled by this, though:

"Not long after the rescue Rufus experienced a miraculous moment in Kalm, a town near Midgar, which he refers to as "The Fated Day" or simply as "that day". The Turks couldn't guarantee Rufus' safety at Midgar's hospital because it was filled with all sorts of people therefore after Rufus woke up, Reno reported their situation to him and they moved to a small house in Kalm that Shinra owned. They could have travelled further away because they had access to a helicopter but, Rufus chose Kalm. Rufus had moved respecting his subordinate's advice but he didn't believe in the aesthetics of running away when the planet was going to be destroyed.

Meteor was so close that you would think you could touch it just by reaching out your hand. With such a surreal situation before them the four Turks patrolled Midgar. The Meteor's impact was imminent and the Turks may not be able to ease Rufus' mind but, they chose to ensure the President's safety and carry out their job to the very end."

If Rufus is in Kalm, how does it ensure his safety - with him injured and in a wheelchair and all - to have all four of his Turks over on patrol in Midgar?
Love the thought of Tseng in a Hawaiian t-shirt! Maybe it'll be swimming trunks next.

^I was going to comment on the shirt and forgot! I got an image of Tseng in a bright-red Hawaiian shirt. Very funneh. XD

Tseng must be at least 30 or better.
It's implied on page one that he was involved with Aerith and her mother escaping from Shinra when Aerith was little, and the flashbacks in the game show him talking to her and Elmyra when she was still bite-sized. So he's older than dirt, by FF standards. :awesome:

I think putting Rufus in Kalm was the Turks ensuring his safety. I doubt anyplace else in the world is much safer. The biggest problem at that point was Meteor, which was in Midgar, but if it did it, everything was going to go to pot anyway, including Kalm and the rest of the world. :monster: So they probably just wanted to make sure he was away from the storm and flying debris in Midgar itself.

At least that's what I think, anyway.

I swear I nearly an an stroke here when I read that. :reptar: If I didn't love Tseng to peices before, I would now.

I LOVE THIS STORY :aah:

If Tseng's been a Turk for at least 15 years (Aerith's mother died 15 years before the original game), he's almost certainly well into his 30s. Dude is older than Cloud by a lot.

Reno and Rude as well should be in their late 20s at the youngest.

You make a good point. But the reason they moved him from the hospital is Midgar in the first place was because of all the people - I got the impression that he was unsafe not because of Meteor (or not just because of Meteor) but because there were a lot of angry people who wanted Shinra's head on a platter...As well as lots of other angry people who were nevertheless expecting Shinra to come up with a solution to save them.

I don't know how to put these postings up as 'spoilers' so that they are hidden. Help?

Ooooh... Sorry, I was exhausted when I replied to that last night and didn't read the snippet properly. Now that I have however :awesome: Perhaps they consider the place in Kalm safer because it's a private place, not a crowded hospital.

It also wasn't the Turks' idea. Rufus picked Kalm even though the Turks wanted to take him further away.

10 more pages from Case of Shin-Ra are now done (so that's 51 out of 75 for those not keeping count):

These most recent pages were quite exciting. Really looking forward to whatever happens next.

I'm loving Rufus' characterization throughout this story. Like, seriously loving it.

His fall at the end of Disc 2 of the original game really humbled him. His journey to becoming "the people's president" of AC/C and DC has been great.

Yes. And this is achieved without making his character inconsistent; he remains himself. I love the scene
in Kalm where he is surrounded by the angry mob. He says, "There are people who give orders and people who take them." And one of the mob leaders sneers, "You don't plead for your life very convincingly." As if Rufus would ever plead for anything.

This is one of the best OTWTAS, if not THE best.

Yes, the fact that Rufus' heart changes without his attitude changing is well struck. This is Nojima at his best.

He may not be able to describe the setting in a scene or the transition from one to another all that lavishly, but he's great at characterization.

Also, without a doubt, this is the best OtWtaS story. Fuck Case of Denzel, this is the one that should have been animated.

I remember saying shit about Nojima's writing skills back when this Caseof was still only a few pages, and I must say I truly regret it and take back every bit. It takes a hell of a writing to write something as engaging and awesome as this without bothering with pretty edging, so to speak. It reminds me that it's the characters that make the story worthwhile, not the words on the page.

And I love Rufus to pieces :monster:

I love how
Rufus' purgatory seems to have no end. I almost feel pity for him :monster:

Maybe because he's writing it like a script for a movie or videogame, instead of a real novel. I love it!

And I, too, would have like to see it animated by the same team as Last Order. In Before Crisis' intro he looked like a blond Dante, so here he would look like a blond Virgil :monster:
