I just got a message about this and came here to see if it had been mentioned.

This guy is a hero. I've struggled for years to find someone I'd describe as my favourite actor---and, more importantly, an actor I could say came closest to inspiring me to act a few years back---and Alan Rickman was that guy.
He has certainly left his mark on the world, and one like Bowie that won't be forgotten anytime soon.

Cancer again. This is a dark month so far :(

Former Nebraska star running back and NFL draft bust Lawrence Phillips died in prison yesterday, reportedly a suicide. Despite off-the-field problems in college, Phillips was drafted 6th overall by the St. Louis Rams (who thought so highly of him that they even traded Jerome Bettis to the Pittsburgh Steelers), but his off-the-field problems continued in the NFL and was cut by the Rams after 2 seasons. A missed blocking assignment on Aeneas Williams during his stint with the 49ers contributed to the career-ending concussion of Steve Young. At the time of his death, Phillips was serving time in prison for assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, and was facing even more time in prison (and possibly the death penalty) after being recently charged with the homicide of his cellmate.

A sad end to a man who had all the football talent in the world and wasted it on a life of crime.

RIP Alan Rickman, known for playing Hans Gruber in Die Hard, Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and many other roles on stage and screen. Like Bowie, he was also 69 years old.

I heard this on my radio as it went off this morning for my alarm. I seriously thought that they said the wrong name and I was awake pretty quickly when I heard it. This is really sad to me. :(
Alan Rickman was one of the few actors I've ever seen that I would've loved to have met, simply because he seemed like such a lovely person. I'll always remember him as Professor Snape, he played that role perfectly and no one else could've done it like that. He was perfect for it.
I'm really saddened by this. Aww. :( Only 69 too, and from cancer. >,<

This was another article that talked about him, I think it echoes some of the stuff in the one already posted but here it is if anyone cares to read it.

Really sad about this one as well.

Seriously gonna go watch Robinhood asap. I think he knew the movie wasn't going to be that great and gave a seriously awesome and hilarious portrayal of the Sheriff of Nottingham , it was a little more hammy and over the top than most of the other characters in the movie. If you haven't seen the movie in a long time or never saw it as an adult you really should his acting in it is a real treat.

It's one of the few movies where I can say his character is funnier than the parody character based off of it (Mel Brook's Robin Hood : Men in Tights).

Was thinking of putting up a Marvin the Paranoid Android image to go along with this post but couldn't find anything fitting.

Fuck Cancer =/

This was from Ian McKellen's facebook page:

ALAN RICKMAN (1946-2016)

There is so much that is matchless to remember about Alan Rickman. His career was at the highest level, as actor on stage and screen and as director ditto. His last bequest of his film “A Little Chaos” and his indelible performance as Louis 14th, should now reach the wider audience they deserve.

Beyond a career which the world is indebted to, he was a constant agent for helping others. Whether to institutions like RADA or to individuals and certainly to me, his advice was always spot-on. He put liberal philanthropy at the heart of his life. He and Rima Horton (50 years together) were always top of my dream-list dinner guests. Alan would by turns be hilarious and indignant and gossipy and generous. All this delivered sotto, in that convoluted voice, as distinctive as Edith Evans, John Gielgud, Paul Scofield, Alec Guinness, Alastair Sim or Bowie, company beyond compare.

When he played Rasputin, I was the Tzar Nicholas. Filming had started before I arrived in St Petersburg. Precisely as I walked into the hotel-room, the phone rang. Alan, to say welcome, hope the flight was tolerable and would I like to join him and Greta Scacchi and others in the restaurant in 30 minutes? Alan, the concerned leading man. On that film, he discovered that the local Russian crew was getting an even worse lunch than the rest of us. So he successfully protested. On my first day before the camera, he didn’t like the patronising, bullying tone of a note which the director gave me. Alan, seeing I was a little crestfallen, delivered a quiet, concise resumé of my career and loudly demanded that the director up his game.

Behind his starry insouciance and careless elegance, behind that mournful face, which was just as beautiful when wracked with mirth, there was a super-active spirit, questing and achieving, a super-hero, unassuming but deadly effective.

I so wish he’d played King Lear and a few other classical challenges but that’s to be greedy. He leaves a multitude of fans and friends, grateful and bereft.

-- Ian McKellen, London, 14 January 2016

This is really making me sad again.

Lloyd is frequently on the receiving end of death hoaxes
Hayden Christensen betrayed and murdered Jake Lloyd. So what I told you was true, from a certain point of view.

Jake Lloyd appears to still be alive so I feel pretty confident about making the joke above. *holds thumbs*

Tera Wray Static, former adult film actress and widow of Static X frontman Wayne Static, was found dead today, according to Blabbermouth, citing a longtime associate of Wayne as a source.

Wayne Static died the day after Halloween in 2014 due to an accidental overdose, mixing Xanax and other prescription drugs with alcohol. The couple met at Ozzfest 2007, when Static X was on that tour promoting the Cannibal album, and Tera was modeling for Hustler lingerie on the same tour. They married in January of 2008, and Tera retired from porn in August of that year to spend time with Wayne on tour. It is believed that her presence on tour had a hand in the demise of Static X, something not far-fetched because we've seen rock star girlfriends/wives clash with bandmates before (Yoko Ono, Nancy Spungen, Sharon Osbourne, and Courtney Love come to mind, plus if anyone's seen Spinal Tap, guitarist/vocalist David St. Hubbins' girlfriend eventually drove the band's manager Ian Faith and lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel out of the band).

Speaking of David Bowie (:awesome:), 17 of his albums have appeared in Australian charts at the one time, trouncing Michael Jackson's previous record (after his respective death). I don't think that'll ever happen again. No one is going to top that. ★ also dislodged Adele to make number 1 too :P. Apparently 19 of his albums are in UK charts. Not sure of precedence there.

Former NFL head coach Ted Marchibroda passed away at age 84. He served 2 stints as head coach of the Colts franchise (once in the 70s when they were the Baltimore Colts, and again in the 90s when they were the Indianapolis Colts), and was the inaugural head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. He is also notable for giving future Giants Defensive Coordinator and Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick his first coaching opportunity in the NFL, as well as being the Offensive Coordinator of the Buffalo Bills during the late 80s/early 90s, at which time the Bills had one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL and eventually went to 4 consecutive Super Bowls.

In other NFL death related news, the brain of the recently-deceased Lawrence Phillips will be donated for CTE research.

Poor Celine Dion. First she's lost her husband and now her brother (from cancer). Truth be told, I never loved her work that much and was never a huge fan, and I could crack jokes all day about her, but having to lose two loved ones in the same month is far too much for anybody. :(

They we're playing 'The Heat is On' on the radio before - which for me is one of those songs that make you drive too fast until you remember that you are not Eddie Murphy, I didn't realise he'd died :(

Motorhead frontman Lemmy's cause of death has been officially revealed; prostate cancer, along with cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure. Lemmy had just turned 70 on Christmas Eve, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and given 2 to 6 months to live the day after Christmas, and died just 2 days after being diagnosed. His legendary metal band Motorhead was immediately disbanded following his death.

Former Rainbow/Dio bassist Jimmy Bain.

Jimmy Bain joined Rainbow (a rock band named after LA's famous restaurant the Rainbow Bar & Grill that serves as a hangout spot for rock stars from all over the world that was formed by former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and the late Ronnie James Dio immediately after Blackmore left Deep Purple) in time to record the band's second album, Rising, but was fired after a year, and in 1983, after several years of working with members of Thin Lizzy, reunited with Dio (who by this time had already had a stint as the singer of Black Sabbath, replacing original vocalist Ozzy Osbourne), forming a new band called Dio, with future Def Leopard guitarist Vivian Campbell and Dio's Sabbath bandmate Vinny Appice included in the lineup. Bain recorded 7 albums with Dio, including the iconic Holy Diver and Last In Line.
