Well that was pretty darn epic, and yet again some serious acting by Capaldi. The finale is going to cause a nerd meltdown, that's for sure.

Definitely agreed, Capaldi held the episode well on his own.

It feels like the finale is going to be an eye-opener.

I am curious about why
his blood resets, but the skulls in the water don't. Likewise, why all the other content in the room refreshes, but the painting of Clara is old still. Lastly, why would room 12, with the 20 ft. wall of Azbantium not reset like the rest of them and instead allow him to crack through it?

I'm quite interested in seeing where all this ends up though, since that was one hell of a set up, and since it was set up how it was set up, I have to wonder who orchestrated it all.

I can't remember the first look at it but I'm guessing that
the painting of Clara was old to start off with, so the rooms resetting wouldn't have effected that. However, it was completely weird how some things would reset and not others, as you are absolutely right about the skulls.

The Azbantium wall, I'm guessing wouldn't reset because it is the way out of the confession dial (plus, no one would have imagined ANYONE being able to break through that - so it could be seen as a simple oversight), but that raises all kinds of issues with who tampered with this dial and made it into a prison/trap. If the Doctor hadn't worked out the teleporter, he would have been dead.

Speaking of which. The Doctor is now - what - a billion billion years into the future or something? This is going to raise some interesting questions with what happens next...

I agree
about the painting; when he first saw it; it was old, so it probably always was.

What it was imo
Room 12 is more interesting; I wonder if the dial is not necessarily a prison or torture thing, but a 'trial' for Timelords. Wasn't it mentioned that the Doctor and The Master had undergone a ritual of looking into the time vortex or into the something something chasm? So it could be a ritual thing; set up to test a Timelord's resolve; which would make a clue for the exit necessary. Because who wrote 'I'm in room 12'?

Who dunnit imo
I think this is the work of the TimeLords; they tried to break through to this dimension by asking The Doctor to tell them his name; he had to stay on that Xmas planet and live out his days in a stalemate. I often wondered what was going to happen with that because if the Time Lords couldn't come back through route A, they'd try a route B for sure.

How that was done imo
I think they somehow got in touch with Viking chick as she was around for a long time and told her to set his confession dial in a certain way. The gateway to get to Galifray much be ultra protected so as not to alert the Daleks, Cybermen etc etc etc. If it's just the Doctor locked away for a billion billion years, no one else could have survived that with him and no one else could follow him without one hell of a resolve. Perhaps the skulls were left to 'inspire him' or it's special and a TimeLord thing.

The question is;
what will they do with the Doctor now they have him? Esp since he said he ran away because he was scared.... of the TimeLords?

Oh, my heart…

I am way glad to see the return of the Sonic Screwdriver in such a cool design for Christmas.

Loving the new screwdriver too :D

I always remember Clara as how we first met her, that ep still makes me sad and it really set the scene of how she would be as a companion.

All of the Doctors faces morphed together. It includes War Doctor but not The Valeyard

The christmas special
started off rather so-so (but I went in expecting this because of all the advance reviews / thoughts saying that it was a non stop 'fun romp') but Capaldi and Kingston are just really amazing playing off each other, and their chemistry kept everything together long enough until everything fell into place and the episode really stepped up a gear.

There was some really great scenes, like the River's line about being sad because her diary was almost full, and at his confused reply, she states how the man who gave it to her 'would know just how long a diary she would need'.

Loved Capaldi's 'bigger on the inside' spiel, and River's flirting, and River's speech about loving the Doctor even if he couldn't love her back, and ... heck, let's face it - you could just cut off the first 20 or so minutes and start from there really. The back end had all the good stuff.

The final part was of course very touching - and I would have probably assassinated Moffet if he would have had the Doctor do everything he did for Clara but left River like that, so I am glad she got her own 'long way round' moment as well. It's only fair for his wife!

Though this settles quite firmly the end of River's story, as usual there is a lot of room for maneuvering. 24 years = 1 night on Darillium means she could go on a heck of a lot more adventures.

However, one thing I was surprised at is no resolution to the Night of the Doctor hologram version of River. So her story really isn't over yet as that hasn't been explained. Oh well.

Love River and definitely want to see more of her and Capaldi together.

From the people I talk to, I think I might be the only person that actually likes Peter Capaldi as the Doctor.

Have they only watched New Who?

For the most part New-Whovians just aren't used to this type of Doctor so it's understandable that they may not just get it.

From what I've seen on the Dr. Who subreddit people who watched tons of the oldschool Who obviously love him.

It was during the most recent season they would air like 1 or 2 serials a day during the afternoon and then re-run them in the middle of the night.

Saw city of death like 10 times that month. I don't have BBCA anymore so idk if they are still running episodes.
