You know there was a time were I actually liked River before Moffat completely overused her and gave her a shitty characterization. The sad thing is I actually think she would work better with Capaldi's Doctor than she ever did with Smith's.

To be honest I think I would like River if she didn't exist just to be The Doctor's Wife.

I also think I would feel better about this if Moffat would stop pretending only his tenure in the show matters. For example: where is Captain Jack? It's not like they can't get John Barrowman back.

Or more classic era companions? Davies had Sarah Jane come back. And K9. And Jo Grant was on the Sarah Jane Adventures.

This is freaking awesome since River is one of my favourite characters ever! I don't really get the 'only exists as Doctor's Wife' comment, since she was a heck of a lot more before and after any of those connections were pieced together, but hey, not everyone can love everyone. (Like my tolerance for Clara).

Everyone has their favourite Doctor, so yeah, you're going to think it was better during so-and-so's tenure. I personally think it was amazing with Christopher Ecclestone. I actually never took to Tennent, but loved Smith.

Agreed on both counts.

River was interesting when all she ever was to us and The Doctor (as much as we saw anyway) was a mystery. We were sort of left to fill in the gaps that Ten must have met and married her during that time before he got around to confronting The Master and dying. Which I'm pretty sure was Davies's intent.

The opener was good.

I liked the mix of old retro 1960s Daleks & modern ones.
(I didn't spot any plastic rainbow Daleks that everyone hated though.)

I don't like how everyone keeps dying only to come back the next episode. Death needs to be final for it to have any weight.*
As soon as Missy & Clara died I'm thinking "They'll both be back in the next episode like Kenny from South Park.

Also, I'm glad that it's getting back into Whovian things that're back at the roots of Who

like The Master and the Daleks. Speaking of which, the sets for the interior of Skaro look AMAZING (and Capaldi must've been geeking out about getting to do that), and seeing things like The Shadow Proclamation again were really nice. I like that this season is about big Who-like stories, and the split up makes them feel a little like the old serials in a good way.

Fingers crossed that this keeps up all season, because even if it makes things feel like they're going by quickly, I really do like the start it's off to.

Heck given the cgi they used for the ray my first thought wasn't even death. I just assumed it was the teleportation ray thing that was used on Rose at the end of Season 1 lol.
