Well, there are hints Nine through Eleven could be involved in some fashion as well, which would be super awesome if true.

*bump*

It has been confirmed, that Big Finish Audio drama is all surviving CLASSIC Doctors only.

"This was the Radio Times extrapolating incorrectly." he explained, "We stupidly said all surviving Doctors supported the project. We meant 'all surviving classic Doctors'."

I thought something had seemed fishy about this. I remember reading somewhere not that long ago that Big Finish only has the rights to do Classic Doctor stories, and that they are not allowed to do any stories with the Modern Doctors.

Oh well, it'll still be a fun listen, though, I'm sure. :)

Christopher Eccleston was awesome. I mourned his regeneration and had to wait a few days before moving on. </3

And yes, you have discovered the secret truth about Doctor Who, in that it sometimes rips your heart out and stomps it on the floor.

Come here bby let's have a comforting hug.

I laughed at the Doomsday one. :awesomonster:

I also FINALLY watched the first half of Asylum of the Daleks. Very good episode, actually, except
what was even the point of Amy and Rory in this one? I feel like having them not be there with the Doctor from the get go makes them seem tacked on. Yes, I know the Doctor was still pretending he was dead, but he had gone to tell them he was alive. I just think it's so random that the Daleks would go and pick them up of all people just because the Doctor needs companions. And, getting divorced because Amy can't have children, and then reconciling and getting back together... I don't think that was even necessary to do.

HOWEVER. Oswin. She is adorable. I need March 30th to come already because I am so ready for this new companion. <3

And then I did also today watch that scene that takes place after The Angels Take Manhattan with
Rory's dad that was not filmed. I'm sure you've all watched it. Now that was beautiful. Moffat really needs to incorporate more stuff just like that into Doctor Who. Seeing The Doctor wearing Amy's glasses (kind of made me go wtf when he did that) and being all sad in New York did nothing to me, but seeing Brian meet Anthony had me near tears, even if it was just drawings in a video.

Because it's like, ugh poor Brian. Did Rory have any siblings? I can't remember if that was ever mentioned. Otherwise, he's all alone. Even his grandson will probably die before he does because he's older. That poor man. I wish Moffat could give us insight into what will become of him, but I doubt he ever will. I want to see The Doctor go visit him. Visit him with River, because come on, don't you think she'd want to meet her grandfather? It would be nice to see her meet Anthony as well.

So I'm completely caught up with the series now. March 30th can not come quickly enough. Also, having just watched the awesome that was The Snowmen, I wish the crime-fighting lizard woman and her wife would appear in more eps. The Santauran (spelling waht?) butler too.

Well, that explains it, then. You should share your thoughts on...everything. :)

Were you watching on Netflix? Do keep in mind that Netflix does not have the first Eleventh Doctor Christmas special (the "Christmas Carol" one) and it also does not have "Planet of the Dead."

Nah I just downloaded everything, though I'll definitely be buying the DVDs at some point. And yeah I saw all the specials, I double-checked with wikipedia to make sure I didn't miss anything. :)

THOUGHTS ON EVERYTHING EH well you asked for it incoming major tl;dr (seriously i apologize for the wall of text it hurts me to look at it but once i got going i couldn't stop)

in general:

- Overall I preferred the tone of RTD's series to Moffat's series - which is not to say I still didn't enjoy Moffat's stuff immensely, but it almost felt like a different show

- I loved all the Doctors tbh I dunno if I can choose a favourite though David Tennant may have a slight edge on the grounds that he is a walking sex bomb daaaammmnnn

favourite eps:

- I have a lot of favourite episodes but if I absolutely had to pick I think I'd go with The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit because the tone was all wonderfully Event Horizon and there was lots of TenxRose shippiness and foreshadowing that in retrospect makes me weep inside and yeah I just adored those eps

- Other favourite eps: Rose, Dalek, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways, New Earth, The Girl in the Fireplace, The Runaway Bride, 42, Blink, Partners in Crime, Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, Midnight, The Waters of Mars, The End of Time, Vincent and the Doctor, The Lodger, The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon, The Doctor's Wife, A Good Man Goes to War, Let's Kill Hitler, The Girl Who Waited, Closing Time, and last but not least (I told you I have a lot >.>) The Snowmen

I want to comment on a couple of these in particular so:

- Dalek: Holy shit Eccleston just destroyed the scenery in this ep IIRC he was actually like foaming at the mouth at one point and it was awesome

- The Doctor Dances: the famous EVERYBODY LIVES scene was both heartwarming and painful because you realize just how rare an occasion it really is.

- 42 had that same gritty scifi feel as Impossible Planet, which was an instant plus, but what really made it a favourite for me was the scene where Martha is drifting towards the sun in the escape pod and the Doctor is watching from the hatch across the way and they're both screaming at each other and it's absolutely silent. Shit like that never fails to give me chills.

- Partners in Crime: Just a wonderfully hilarious episode. The scene of when the Doctor and Donna finally spot each other through the opposite windows and have a whole conversation via lip-reading and hand gestures had me cackling like a maniac. Plus it's the ep where the Doctor/Donna brotp is officially established.

- Forest of the Dead: As much as I loved this two-parter for it's sheer creepy factor and River, the ending legitimately disturbed me, and not in a good way. The thought of being trapped, forever, in a virtual reality (even one filled with all the books in the universe and some buds) is imo a Fate Worse Than Death. It does, however, play nicely into the theme of the Doctor willing to go to any lengths to keep the people he loves alive, even when the alternative is often almost or just as bad as dying, and more often than not against the companion's wishes.

- Midnight wins hands down the creepiest episode for me. Goddamn that shit was sickeningly good and Tennant just fucking sold it. Nothing quite makes a monster like highly paranoid and irrational people.

- The Waters of Mars: Time Lord Victorious was both terrible and wonderful and possibly my most favourite Doctor moment in the entire series so far. On one hand you're pretty sure it's not gonna end well but on the other hand you're like fuck yeah Doctor stick it to the universe but then you realize that he's not just saving these people he wants to save all the people and to do so he will now stop at nothing and you become more and more horrified and then the Captain kills herself to restore the timeline and his face as he realizes what he's become and aoiwjdaoiwjd it's just such a wonderful, wonderful character moment.

- The End of Time: Tennant in this episode WOW in particular the scene with Wilfred in the cafe where he confesses he's scared of dying and he's trying so hard not to cry NOPE and then at the end when he thinks he's somehow, against all odds, escaped his fate but then hears the knocking and he just rages against the world NOPE and then when his last words are I don't want to go NOPE NO oh and not to mention he visited everyone and last of all he visited Rose NOPE NO NUHUH I AM DONE

- The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon: The scene where the Doctor 'dies' and Rory and River have to restrain Amy and ugh my heart. And then younger!Doctor appears and they can't say shit and UGH MY HEART. Also, Mark Sheppard.

- The Doctor's Wife: I love the whole Doctor/TARDIS relationship, and leave it to Neil Gaiman to dress it up so wonderfully in Gothic clothing.

- The Snowmen: Easily my favourite Christmas special. As I mentioned in my previous poast, I would not at all be opposed to more episodes where Vastra, Jenny, and Strax make an appearance. Plus, delightfully painful depressed-Doctor. Oh and so far liking Clara.

companions and other friendlies:

- I adore Rose to death awidaiwndawd I cannot with her and all the awards to Billie Piper for being able to pull off face-melting cuteness and heart-breaking angst in equal measure and I love how even though it was 'impossible' for her to ever get back to her own reality she never stopped fighting because FUCK YOU REALITY TRUE LOVE

- I really liked Martha too, she had several BAMF moments, especially towards the end of her arc when she really comes into her own. I also like how they resolved the whole unrequited love thing by having her decide on her own to take off and get over the Doctor, thought it was well-handled and great justice for her character. Though pairing her with Mickey in the end felt a bit like Pair the Spares but w/e you know the two of 'em and their kiddos are gonna kick a lot of alien ass

- Speaking of Mickey I liked that he wasn't afraid to call out Rose on her shit (ditching him for the Doctor) or the Doctor for his (always choosing Rose over him when Mickey was traveling with them) and I think they handled his character arc very well

- Also Jackie was gr8 she was a mama bear extraordinaire equipped with claws of sass I loved her even if she could be a bit of a dick sometimes

- Jack you glorious flaming bisexual you. I really liked his character, made a nice sorta foil to the Doctor and I may have to watch Torchwood for more of him.

- DONNA OH MY GOD DONNA SHE IS MY FAVOURITE DOCTOR/DONNA BROTP 5EVR seriously though I love their dynamic and I love how she doesn't take any of his shit no sir. Oh and her final scene where she begs him not to take away her memories even though she's dying completely and utterly ruined me I will never be over it nope

- And apparently ruining runs in their fictional family because WILFRED I AM DONE WITH YOU THE SCENE WITH HIM AND THE DOCTOR IN THE CAFE AND HE TELLS THE DOCTOR TO PLEASE GIVE DONNA HER MEMORIES BACK AND THEN LATER IN THE BOX AND LATERLATER AT DONNA'S WEDDING WHEN HE SEES THE DOCTOR FOR THE LAST TIME NO YOU ARE JUST A GUEST STAR WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME

- Amy is just fabulous and Scottish and fabulously Scottish and her relationship with Eleven is a beautiful thing and even though Angels Take Manhattan was the first full ep of DW I ever saw and I thought I was prepared for it nope I cried when she said goodbye

- Rory oh my god he is also fabulous and RoryxAmy makes me want to hug puppies and shit. I love that he manages to be both a genuinely good guy while still becoming an absolute motherfucking badass THE CENTURION YEEEAAAHHH

- River RIVER HOW DO I DESCRIBE RIVER ONE TIME SHE SHOT A BUNCH OF PEOPLE IN THE FACE AND IT WAS AWESOME no seriously even though her timeline gave me a few headaches when I was trying to figure it out she is the perfect mix of badass, innuendo, and heartbreaking backwards-timelineyness. Doesn't hurt that Alex Kingston is fantastic at the role. And ElevenxRiver is definitely an otp I mean you just know they were having some fine kinky sex somewhere in their convoluted as fuck timeline.

- Also shoutout to Craig for being the best roommate ever four for you Craig Coco you go Craig Coco

favourite villains:

- THE DALEKS ARE AWESOME ENOUGH SAID
- BUT YOU KNOW WHAT'S EVEN MORE AWESOME
- WHEN YOU HAVE THE DALEKS AND THE CYBERMEN IN THE SAME ROOM AND THEY SASS AT EACH OTHER THAT IS ACTUALLY THE BEST THING EVER
- "Are you my mummy?" holy fuck creepy child keep away dnw
- The Silence are just really fucking cool and I really like the whole memory-loss/tally-thing to keep track it's all very creepy
- The Weeping Angels are fabulous and there's this little statue of an angel in our laundry room whom I now can't help but eye suspiciously (and unblinkingly, natch) whenever I'm in the vicinity
- The Master and his insanity of singularity proportions

things I didn't like:

- That the Daleks had human hybrids running around in Asylum of the Daleks, considering one of their major personality traits is keeping the good old hatred bloodline pure

- Also in Asylum, how Rory and Amy went from signing divorce papers to resolving all their marital problems in about, oh, 10 minutes of screen-time together. Like what was even the point of having that storyline, seriously

- That we saw the Weeping Angels actually move in the two-parter. Also the talking. IMO they're creepiest/coolest when the camera acts as an observer and they remain silent.

- Okay they established pretty firmly in Father's Day that if you go back in time and you touch your younger self BAD THINGS HAPPEN but then in A Christmas Carol Kazran hangs out and touches his younger self with zero consequences and I think there an episode with Amy and young!Amy where this also happened too

- THE COCKBLOCKING DALEK IN JOURNEY'S END WAS THAT REALLY NECESSARY IS ONE HAPPY REUNION SCENE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SHOT REALLY TOO MUCH TO ASK JESUS CHRIST

random thoughts:

- why doesn't anyone ever fight the Weeping Angels using mirrors 'cause wouldn't that cause them to lock themselves the moment they uncover their eyes and ESPECIALLY if any image on an Angel becomes an Angel then the reflection would be it's own Angel and that's all the more reason they could lock each other???

- I think one of the reasons I love this show so much is you can literally have pretty much any plot/genre/setting you want and it can work because you have a motherfucking time machine and the whole motherfucking universe and ISN'T THAT JUST FAB WOW

- On the shipping front, I'm still not sure how I feel about Rose and Tentoo. On the one hand, it's the only way Rose and the Doctor would ever get to grow old together. On the other, the Doctor is still forever alone (I mean did you see his face when Tentoo got to kiss Rose instead of him HE WAS SO HEARTBROKEN BAW). On the third hand (the one in the jar!) he left Rose in the alternate reality AGAIN with the excuse that Tentoo needed babysitting because he was genocidal and shit which is kinda rich from a guy 3 episodes away from declaring himself the TIME LORD VICTORIOUS. Argh I dunno I love it and hate it at the same time and I kinda suspect I always will.

in summary this show:

I agree with nearly everything you said. The only thing that sticks out at me that I don't agree with is that I can't possibly hope to choose a favourite between RTD and Moffat. They are almost different shows under each writer, as you said, but when I sit down and look at my favourite episodes just about an equal amount were written by each showrunner. So yeah, can't possibly choose :monster:

And yes, do watch Torchwood. It starts out a bit slow but by the end of the first series it is absolutely fantastic, and it only gets better in series two and three. (Haven't seen enough of four to comment yet, may have to download it)

omg Kat a lot of what you said rings so true with me, I agree with a whole lot of it.

And thank you for bringing up
Rose and 10.5. I kind of bounce back and forth between being able to roll with it and wishing that Rose had never been brought back at all. I think giving her and the Doctor a clean break at the end of season 2 would have been very nice, and while I was excited that she was coming back, it was all very rushed without much payoff. The show needed more time!

But mainly, I don't like The Doctor's excuse for leaving Rose in Pete's world. It just was not a very satisfying cut off, especially when I think about how RTD gave himself the perfect out for making Rose stay but didn't use it. He put it right there on the flipping beach and all she did was stand there quietly and not say anything. And by that I mean Jackie. I think that Jackie should have kicked up a fuss and begged Rose to stay, and Rose would be conflicted, but The Doctor would be like, "I think you should stay blah blah blah." I have the whole scene mapped out in my head.

And then The Doctor could choose that time to kick the human Doctor off the TARDIS all like, "I need you to stay and look after her for me," or maybe turn to Rose and be like, "But you won't be alone," and such and such.

Especially because, I look at it this way. Martha spent almost her whole season being in love with The Doctor, then grew up and decided it was time to walk away and leave him for her own sake. A big theme with Rose was that Jackie was the single mother left behind with no one and was so lonely and worried about her daughter all the time. It seemed like Rose was always so keen to just run off and leave her own mum behind.

How beautiful would it have been, then, if by Journey's End she had done some growing up and actually finally chose her mother over The Doctor? It would have brought her arc full circle to a satisfying conclusion. It would have been beautiful.

But no, we get the Doctor all like, "You have to stay and babysit my clone." :P

Not that I hate what we got, but at the same time, I see potential for better and it's like, ugh no why?

And it's almost 2am. Time for bed. Maybe I'll post more later. :P

Two second response: The Daleks used human puppets in Asylum, because they've done similar things in Classic Who, like in The Dalek Invasion of Earth. ;)
