FF7 Relationships

Reading what Yac wrote reminded me of my favourite fanon. No matter what I feel about canon, Clerith interests me as a ship more than Cloti. I guess because there's more blanks to fill in on the whatifs and Cloti as nice as it is, gets too real for my tastes. I know a lot of people like that for that pair but I'd prefer them to be a little bit less like a real couple because real life gets boring. :P

However, I don't like the Cloud pining over Aerith after death bit because that's Tseng's job. I prefer to think of the what if she'd lived. In this case she would have gotten over Zack eventually and loved Cloud, and he would have gotten himself back and decided to start pursuing Aerith. They'd have a relationship of giggles and silliness, similar to Clack but Aerith would make fun of Cloud more for being a dork. As for Tifa, because love her and all, she'd fall for a real hero, Rufus, who'll treat her like the princess she deserves to be treated as and together they'll build a better world for everyone post-holy/meteor with so many beautiful babies. Because that pair is the sex.

Gosh, can we all talk about Tserith for awhile? :awesome: I love this pairing so much. <3 Aerith out right showing she cares and saying she cares is just... I love it. When Tseng was badly injured (assumed would lead to death) Aerith actually cried over him and said he was the first person she got close to. Of course the means in which they met aren't the greatest but that doesn't really matter... xD I like that Crisis Core sort of hinted at a Tseng x Aerith x Zack love triangle. Zack even asks Tseng to watch over Aerith while he's gone. It's kinda funny that Zack shows his jealousy in the game when Tseng is around Aerith too. It really is like the Tifa and Aerith relationship. Though Zack and Tseng were both love rivals, they were still friends. And mutually agreed that Aerith's safety was the most important. Kinda like how Tifa and Aerith agreed Cloud's well being is the most important.

As for Cloud saying "Easy to make that promise" as being hate, I really don't think so. He felt guilty, he felt he wasn't a hero at all, couldn't carry on Zack's legacy... it seemed more like an apology than feelings of spite. Those two were best friends, Zack did everything in his power to keep Cloud safe. I see no hints towards any hatred but you know that's just my view. :monster:

As for Tifa I think that she puts love first before anything else, not guilt or another feeling. In my opinion, that is a flaw - but it's good that she has flaws. All characters/people do. Lots of people will do crazy things for love and while it's noble, it can be considered a flaw (as it is most certainly selfish even though it's also very caring).

I love how there are so many Tserith fans. I went through so many years not knowing any other fans of this ship. <3 (as in not going to ff7 forums or looking up anything about the game fandom or pairing I didn't even know what shipping was all I knew was that in my games Aeris was named Brooke for that reason even though I named Cloud after my boyfriend and Tifa was whoever my best friend was at the time).

I love Aerith/Tseng!! Even though she didn't try to cure him at the Temple, when she could easily have done so. She cried for him, but didn't cure him - this only makes sense if she could see that he was not mortally wounded, and so that it what I've always assumed. He'd done the dirty on her and her party, and she was going to make him pay, and then they'd be quits.

I've always seen their relationship as being much more complex than a love triangle. The bond between them is unique. Tseng is the only person who really knows who/what she is. Zack at first has no idea, and both Aerith and Tseng intend to keep it from him - until Cissnei lets the cat out of the bag. Even then, though, Zack never fully grasps Aerith's significance.

Tseng/Aerith is so full of might-have beens. Tseng understands that a romantic relationship between them is out of the question for all sorts of reasons, and however much Aerith may love him, I don't think she ever considers him boyfriend material. She wants a boyfriend like Zack, who thinks of her as just an ordinary girl and will treat her like one. Meanwhile, any kind of permanent attachment or greater love for some other woman is equally out of the question for Tseng: there is no one who matches up to Aerith.

Gotta agree with you there about Rufus/Tifa, too. This give me a chance to plug my all-time favourite Rufus/Tifa fic, "Out of the Blue" by little warrior:

But
since Aerith dies, and Tifa ends up with Cloud, Rufus and Tseng will have to console themselves with each other. I'm good with that too.

I always thought cure magic wasn't that strong irl out of game mechanics. Like, it makes you feel refreshed and heals minor wounds so you don't pass out/faint/what happens when you lose all your HP. But if someone was mortally wounded, like Tseng was, you'd need actual medical care. Like why they can't just use cure3s to make Cloud better after being mako poisoned.

^ And why they didn't just throw a phoenix down on Aerith when Seph gave her a new piercing. I always imagined the medical system in FF7 as using a combination of 'real life' techniques and potions/magic/materia; for example, I imagine stuff like their heart monitors or allergy-detection techniques made use of modified Sense materia im combination with the more usual electronics. Anyways, tl;dr what Brooke said, magic isn't strong enough on it's own to heal the super severe wounds. Or if it was it would take so much 'MP'/energy that it would require having several people working in tandem because it would exhaust one person far too quickly.

I always sort of pegged Tifa to be more of Reno's type than Rude's and, in my head canon, I'm convinced he was the one who carried her in AC/C. >D

I think someone should write a TsengxAerithxZack LT fic because that would be awesome! :D

I think Cloud and Zack had an awesome relationship but, I don't actually believe they were into each other romantically but my shipper heart still likes it anyways :awesome:

On Zack and Aerith, they're an OTP of mine and if it weren't for CC, they wouldn't have made my top list of FF7 couples so, as much as the game wasn't so great, it still gave me the Zerith pairing. :3 I'd have believed it to have been more of a quick fling before CC came out because, well, it didn't get too much attention in the OG. :T

But then the whole idea behind Aerith's ribbon and clothes and the fact that she sells flowers, it's made obvious that she did keep his memory despite the fact that she says it was nothing. I don't personally believe she did all of it just because: OMG ZACK ILU LIEK I WILL WEAR PINK FOR YOUUUUUU AND ONLY YOOUUU

I think she did wear it because she liked the outfit and the ribbon and that she really does believe in her cause in relation to flower selling. I like to see it as Zack just being someone important to her that helped her grow and come out of her shell a bit but not directly responsible for her entire personality or something. the only thing I found stupid was her fear of the sky, wtf was that?

THIS THREAD. I LOVE IT.

I'm also a huge fan of Cloud and Zack's relationship. I could definitely see it being romantic, but that's probably my crack ship sensors going off. I mean, Zack asked Cloud out to dinner, was disappointed that the other grunts tagged along, and the whole carrying him across the world and dying for him. I've always viewed it as slightly romantic, but I can definitely see it having a similar dynamic as Zack and Angeal.

Tseng/Aeris also has my love. Aeris says that Tseng is one of the very few people who actually know the real her. Also, I think that Aeris can be quite a jerk sometimes and I think that would complement Tseng quite nicely.

The love triangle, in my own head, has always been a simple matter that I never lost sleep over. Cloud's feelings for Aeris became a moot point for me when she died. You can't have a romantic relationship with somebody who's not on your plane of existence. Ergo, Cloud eventually moves on with Tifa, with whom he's had a lot of friendlationship-y things going on anyway, and she's supported him through everything, etc., etc.

I don't think Vincent would ever, ever date Yuffie. I just don't see it. I don't think he has feelings for her other than annoyance or mere tolerance.

Tseng and Elena forever!!! Although, after reading others' posts, Tseng/Aeris is intriguing, too.

Reno and Rude's is a bromance for the ages. :neo: They have been a team for so long. I see them as a couple of carefree, lifelong bachelors.

I think Rude would actually make a really nice, sweet boyfriend. But he wouldn't dream of his crush on Tifa leading to anything. Cloud is reason enough to stay away.

My non-canon OTP is Reno/Tifa, which is so much more complicated in the AC-verse--and therefore a lot more fun to make work. The obstacles, conflict, and stakes are absolutely crazy.

Aerith and Tseng... I donno, he slapped her pretty hard. Crisis Core would've redeemed him if it weren't in the past, maybe.

That slap was all for show. Heidegger's man was flying the helicopter. Tseng had to make it look real. He didn't want his boss to think he was soft on terrorists. He had to stay alive in order to continue to protect her. He was under a lot of pressure. Don't judge him.

Seriously, I wish Crisis Core had showed more of Tseng's relationship with Aerith. Everything was from Zack's point of view, and so Tseng ended up looking like a peeping tom. A careless, incompetent peeping tom. What kind of Turk leaves a camera with his name on it lying around in the slums?

Lol, I really don't think Tseng came off as a peeping Tom, at least not to me. I think that moment where Zack says that was just supposed to be silly. Tseng was awesome in CC and is awesome all around. I really wish he got more screen time in ACC, what's with all this Rude and Reno bullshit? I mean those two are great characters, but did they have to hog ALL the screen time?

You know, It kinda pisses me off that we don't see much of Cloud's relationship with his mother. It feels like he's already forgotten about her that he doesn't make any mention of her (maybe that scene where he called Aerith "mother" counts) and it bothers me. Yeah, kinda random, I know.

Not every hero can be a thankless cornerstone of realistic writing and mindful of all they've ever been whilst paying careful attention to what they musn't be, like you Ramza. I always took the fact they overlooked such basic human needs and ignored the minute details in human life like that as a sign stuff occurs behind the narrative we don't necessarily see, but I doubt they thought it out that far.

Nah man, I feel your pain. Kind of like how in KH they show that Riku and Sora have parents, but neither of them cares to leave them behind or if their parents get harmed.

I agree, I love Tseng/Elena more than Tseng/Aeris. I guess I just like Elena as a character better than Aeris. Tseng/Aeris has an interesting dynamic, but I guess I don't like the idea of Tseng being weak and pining for anyone I don't think Tseng is some emotionless robot, but he just isn't the kind of person to wallow like that. Its a bit indulgent and he doesnt have time for that shit

Personally, I think Tseng believed everything about the Promised Land, and saw Aeris as something special to be protected. I don't know if that makes it love. I don't think love can work if someone puts you on a pedestal like that. More than anything Aeris just wanted to be seen as a normal girl, which is how Zack saw her.

On top of that, Tseng puts his duty before anything else, its like he's resigned himself to the fact that nothing could ever happen with Aeris, but he's happy that he could protect her at least. I'm rambling, but I've been in a few situations with people where I think 'things might have been different' but that doesn't mean we can't be freinds.

This! I dunno why but in games/films etc it just seems more convienient for writers to kill off the protaganists parents. I guess it makes them somehow cooler, not to have to think about being home in time for dinner

In AC and that 'what you cherish the most' thing happens, Cloud thinks of Aerith and Zack (as well as Tifa and everyone else) so Aerith and Zack mean more than his mother? Obviously I know that they we'rent going to go to all the trouble of animating his mother, but still. If people he only knew for a short time outrank his mum...UH OH DOUCHECLOUD!

 Oh yeah, there was that.

Thinking about it, Clouds mum got a bit of a bum rap in FFVII. They portrayed her as a bit of a nag/fusspot and little else, while Cloud just lay on the bed like a grumpy gus. Nice.

....Oh god. I just had a horrible thought. We don't know who Clouds dad is do we? Now I'm thinking of some douche turning up and claiming paternity or something....all dressed in zips and buckles and with a stupid name like Nimbus....no no Cirrus :@
