Also, its not even just smut for smuts sake (ok a leeetle bit) but the rest of the story just pulls you in, and her version of Elena is brilliant, she doesn't depict her as some sort of ditzy idiot/

Tseng and Rude both have two canon love interests. Reno's the only Turk with no love interest at all, and since Zack dumped Cissnei, she needs a new lover - and not somebody else who's all hung up on that old Cetra!

I always thought that Lucrecia was a bit of a jerkface. In my headcanon, Lucrecia married Hojo for power, and then led Vincent to believe that she loved him. That was she could convince Vincent to kill Hojo or something, that way she would be next in line after Gast.

You know, It kinda pisses me off that we don't see much of Cloud's relationship with his mother. It feels like he's already forgotten about her that he doesn't make any mention of her (maybe that scene where he called Aerith "mother" counts) and it bothers me. Yeah, kinda random, I know.

Well he was SUPPOSE to yell that he was upset with her death to Sephiroth in outrage. But since they gave his lines to Zack and just pushed the mute button for the Nibelheim reactor scene for the Cloud/Sephiroth confrontation. I mean i know CC is Zack's story but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

Not every hero can be a thankless cornerstone of realistic writing and mindful of all they've ever been whilst paying careful attention to what they musn't be, like you Ramza. I always took the fact they overlooked such basic human needs and ignored the minute details in human life like that as a sign stuff occurs behind the narrative we don't necessarily see, but I doubt they thought it out that far.

I see and yeah, I agree with the bolded part. Still doesn't help but bothers me though. Must be because I'm very close to my mother that I can't help but think this.

Nah man, I feel your pain. Kind of like how in KH they show that Riku and Sora have parents, but neither of them cares to leave them behind or if their parents get harmed.

This! I dunno why but in games/films etc it just seems more convienient for writers to kill off the protaganists parents. I guess it makes them somehow cooler, not to have to think about being home in time for dinner

In AC and that 'what you cherish the most' thing happens, Cloud thinks of Aerith and Zack (as well as Tifa and everyone else) so Aerith and Zack mean more than his mother? Obviously I know that they we'rent going to go to all the trouble of animating his mother, but still. If people he only knew for a short time outrank his mum...UH OH DOUCHECLOUD!

I am glad I am not the only one thinking this. His mother stuck with his shit for, what..., 14 fucking years, dude! Without complaints! And it kinda makes me feel bad that Cloud's mum's last lines were, "I will always be your mother" (paraphrased). It gives me the "I'll always be on your side" feeling, and had his mother not have died, I believe she will stick with his son during his catatonic state and coma, yet said son doesn't even think about her. Heck she wasn't even in his "most cherished" list and I was like... "WHAT THE HECK CLOUDOUCHE, YOU UNGRATEFUL BASTARD OF A SON?!" *sighs*

But to give a little consideration for Cloud though, I believe he does think about his momma sometime. I think that AC/C scene where he called Aerith "mother" is proof. Of course, I don't mean it as he sees Aerith as his mother, but more like she/her presence reminds him of his mother (not Jenova, btw). Or something like that.

To be honest I don't take relationships in FF VII too seriously, and see them more as sweet fun, or personal enjoyment. I like Cid x Vincent, but the main reason why is a bit silly and it would never hold up in something like a debate.
It's more for entertainment, and honestly could care less if they ended up canon or the pairing is total crack xD

I love Aeris x Tifa, Cid x Vincent, Zack x Aerith and Cloud x Zack. There's a few Cloud x Sephiroth fanarts that look sexy, but that's about it. Cloud has a burning utter hate for Sephiroth, so that crack pairing don't make too sense, plus most of the fanarts look like rape.

Aeris x Tifa make a wonderful ship, because they seem like more than just friends, they have a wonderful and spiritual connection, and it's stupid when fans act like they were bitter rivals over one spiky haired young adult's attention. No, they understood each other pretty well, and Tifa is the only one that senses Aerith's presence on the Shera airship in AC. Plus the fanart of them together look sexy and damn fine <3

Cloud x Zack also make a really good potential pair. Zack really is the only one that opened up to Cloud and was really the only friend expect Tifa that he really had. Zack and Cloud, like Aeris and Tifa just have this special bond together that makes them click. Also it's sweet how Zack puts his own life on the line to save Cloud's. Zack is so kindhearted and young Cloud is such a cute moe. <3

Zerith, nothing much needs to be said, they are pretty much canon, and Crisis Core shows us what a innocent, sweet and passionate romantic they had together <3 Plus the 23 wishes thing ! So adorable ! :3

You know I just realized that Aerith's 23 wishes matches Zack's age when he died, 23 years old. Ain't that tragic/ironic coincidence.

Speaking as a mother myself, I'd love to see a mother as one of the main party members in an RPG, either fighting alongside her kid (as we do so often in real life), or for him/her. Hope's mom in FFXIII was quite satisfying, but she died much too quickly, and for exactly the reasons Octo said.

One of the things I loved about Barret's characterisation was his relationship with Marlene and the way it tugged him in two. Like he said to Elmyra, he just wants to be with her, but for her sake he has to go away and fight.

The best protagonists are meant to stay far from their family life to supplement player immersion, but you can't really give them character at all without a thorough grounding with their parents and childhood at least touched upon. It's our upbringing which lends near fifty percent of our character, give or take a couple tens depending on the weight of your interests.

They put fathers in, but 9 times out of 10 the father is like Bambi's dad - an absent, almost mythical figure, or some sort of arsehole for the protagonist to rebel against. (I actually think Bambi's dad was an arsehole too )

Also, Kratos did care about Lloyd, but was misguided and spend a lot of the first part of the game being a dick.Mysterious Swordsman.

Barret isn't a bad guy, but he's made some questionable decisions, I still think going off and leaving Marlene again was a bad idea.

Harry Mason is the good dad, and I'll have to take everybodys word for Sazh as I haven't played FFXIII.

vyse's dad from skies of arcadia tho he isnt really around the latter part of the game cause vyse is busy hunting round the world and his dad is being a sky pirate elsewhere
i think yuri's dad was also a pretty good guy but again, he's absent/dead for the game so

Just seems that game makers think its too boring to just have parents who are normal, they have to kill them off or turn them into 'bad' guys etc. There always has to be 'issues'. Don't they ever read TV Tropes?
