FFVII: Ever Crisis Announced

I don't think that's really bananas though!

It's different. However, Yuffie had such a thin level of backstory and involvement with the main plot of FFVII that she could work anywhere. She's a secret character. The Early Material Files had Yuffie spying on the main characters and following them around. This clearly takes that element and expands on it. Her being a spy on mission for Wutai against Shinra really adds some weight to her character, especially the connection to AVALANCHE and the whole expansion of the Wutai subplot and shadow conflict with Shinra.

And of course, Deepground already showed up in the Remake, and given that Deepground is covert and not about really showing itself except for isolated important missions (or if someone is foolish enough to go deep underground enough in Midgar), as long as they balance it right and do like they did with the Top Secret Research Facility, they can make this work. In fact, I'm optimistic. They did the cameo perfectly in Part 1 so I'm honestly optimistic with the rest.

If Ever Crisis truly covers the entire story of each Compilation title, has decent gameplay, and is made available on other platforms later, then this will be truly special. That's a big if, but hey, let's enjoy this!

I noticed during the combat clips that Aerith is wearing her Remake outfit. I wonder if that means her field model will be based off Remake as well?

Their field models are definitely based on Remake, see Tifa

"Battle Cloud's crippling depression, social anxiety and survivor's guilt as you navigate his avoidance of social situations with loved ones and random silver-haired twinks on motorcycles intent on killing you while you battle a terminal illness."

This is gonna be FUN!!!
it was really rude of square to make a game out of my pre-pandemic life without even informing me

One thing I am curious about with Ever Crisis, will it depict a standardized version of the Nibelheim Incident across the different Compilation titles it redepicts or will it keep the differences in place? Like will Sephiroth still jump into the mako in the BC chapters, or will Cloud getting stabbed still occur inside the Jenova chamber room in CC, while still taking place in the walkway in the OG chapters? Something to think about.

I have so many logistical questions about this game.

If it's using the character and enemy battle models from Remake, does that mean we shouldn't expect the OG chapters to go past the latest remake part? If not, could we potentially see, for example, Bottomswell's remake model in Ever Crisis before part 2? Same goes for Vincent, will his look and play style in the Dirge of Cerberus chapters give us a sneak preview of what to expect when he's playable in remake series?

What's the timeframe on all of this? Do they plan on releasing chapters throughout the entire remake project?

The battle system is party based. How will the Crisis Core chapters, a game that originally only had one playable character, accommodate for this? Will the story be altered to allow for more party members?

Does this basically mean I'll finally get a retranslation of the OG?

The battle models/textures are probably derived from Remake but downscaled significantly. The cutscene characters are imo worse-looking than DFFOO.

I imagine that the Home Screen of the game will give you a game selection, each with a submenu of chapters (each chapter being $5 or whatever, maybe the first chapter of each title is free?) I imagine that there will be lots of solo battles, particularly outside of FF7 OG. A Tifa/Loz battle for instance.

Will they let you choose a Turk for the BC chapters, and will they make you stick with that Turk from chapter to chapter? What about a *party* of Turks?

It's looking like the BC Turks will finally get official names. And AC's playable cast will be ridiculous, lol. We'll probably get to play as the Turks at the start, in the Northern Cave... and if they change things up enough, we might see Reno, Rude, and Cloud fighting on the same team. The possibilities are endless.

Red XIII only playable as Cait Sith’s mount.

Edit: While I kind of recoiled at the first trailer, I'm now coming around to the appeal of this title. I think I'm supposed to be more hyped, like the game wants me to be its target audience, but I feel really detached from it as a whole. It seems like a neat thing to try?

I'm excited, because I haven't had the possibility to play any of the other games beside OG. I've noted prior that they really wanted everyone, including new players, to have played the OG and I think part of why is because they will rely on different mechanisms to tell the story compared to the OG. The OG Lifestream's scene came as an utter surprise, for example, but in Remake it's already hinted at. Same with Aerith's death. Having players aware of the OG and the story allows them to expand characters in ways they couldn't back then. And now, with them re-releasing the Compilation, it seems that they want players to be aware of what they're saying in Remake that could look really weird, like that whole sequence in the lab under sector 7. I think it really shows how they want the Compilation to be tied into Remake, as I was expecting it.

It's also a way to keep players learning new lore and experiencing the games when it's rather difficult those days.

I see a lot of people calling this a possibly more faithful remake of OG FFVII but I think that ironically, this is going to be what Square Enix wanted to avoid doing with Remake, making an abridged version of FFVII where they have to cut or skip parts.
Considering it covers all the Compilation I think all these chapters are gonna be the respective stories on fast forward, so to speak. A "best of", if you will.
