Let him put in that work, that's what he's for after all! :monster:
I actually had him do it in the end, thanks :P

It was really funny though because after Motor Ball, even though I warned him that they made some changes (he played VII 3 or 4 years back after we got together), watching him go from frowning to full out protesting madly at the TV as the final battles unfolded was a hoot. He was rambling on about WHY THE FUCK ALL THIS FATE CRAP and this is from a man who rarely goes full on rant about anything  By the end he was just sulking and I was just kind of laughing. Zack's still pretty though. (I don't mind his voice considering he's meant to be kinda hillbilly.)

The end boss block was tedious and kinda boring. Kind of like XIII-2 without the good pacing and complete epicness. This was bleeding to be epic but felt bloated and overdone instead. Kind of like Cloud's purple dress :P

Btw, fuck Compilation!Sephiroth, he's not canon :monster: Okay probably he is but I still get to like OG Seph more

All that aside, I'm fine with what they did with the story, to some point I find it interesting and even a little fresh? I mean I'm a fan of the OG, but copying something and make it just as good is hard. They needed to do something different with this game in 2020. My major problem with this game is the pacing, plus some gameplay issues that kind of makes me not like it the same way I didn't like XV (though I like VIIR better.) I have to mention though, I came off the Yakuza games which are masters in setting up and increasing the difficulty in gameplay.

I completed around level 37, played for 52 hours.

Oh, and also... probably already brought up a hundred times before, but that line:

"The reunion at hand may bring joy. It may bring fear. But let us embrace whatever it brings (...)"

Considering the ending of the Remake and all the related meta stuff... it makes a lot of sense now. They warned the fans already back then.

Thanks for your appreciation, folks! I didn't expect my wall of text to garner so much attention, thanks for indulging me.
Coming here regularly and being able to share impressions chapter-by-chapter was a really neat aspect of my whole experience with this game. Being able to share my first OG playthrough had been a part of what had made it so memorable, and I really wanted to feel something similar to that experience. Mission accomplished on that front (I shared my playthrough with my spouse and a friend IRL, uploaded my playthrough so that I could share it with my friends from the OG playthrough, plus spending time here with you guys)!

Absolutely. Given how they're leading us into Part 2, this is even more true now than it ever was before.

I don't know if this has been discussed here already, but chapter 13 selection summary (press L2 if I remember right) states that Biggs is heavily wounded and Jessie is dead.

I just wanted to point this out regarding the discussion in the Ultimania thread. So Zack is the mystery character alive, not Biggs, because there isn't any mystery about that.

Biggs is still presumed dead after Chapter 12 though. The Chapter 12 logs just state information in the present tense of that Chapter.

Cloud and Tifa still subsequently refer to Biggs as dead because after they left him heavily wounded, the entire pillar and plate fell on him. He was understood as dead just like everyone else there who did not evacuate. Yes, at the moment of Chapter 13 during that sequence, they left him wounded.

Afterwards he's dead. Or at least until the ending and the destruction of the Whispers shows us otherwise.

In light of new developments about Sephiroth... and the mystery of what Aerith knows... it is quite possible that the story is simply a war between two people in the lifestream, Sephiroth and Aerith to forge fate. Whilst Aerith tries to communicate with herself, Sephiroth is trying to make use of Cloud... hmmm... just throwing thoughts out...

The end of the Ultimania lists the four major mysteries of the Remake project as Aerith's knowledge, the Whispers' intent, Sephiroth's identity, and Zack's victory.

So, no, Zack being alive in some respect at the end of Remake (even if only in a new timeline) is definitely meant to be something new and mysterious that will be expanded upon as the story progresses beyond this first installment.

I'm just really happy that we now have a new confirmation from Ultimania/Kitase that we should expect the story to continue as it did in FF7 even with all the new mysteries present. I'm really looking forward to see where they go with these mysteries and at the same time really looking forward to see all the classic locations, events and characters.

even if Kitase's words are to be taken for granted, the ending is still poorly paced and overdone, changes in the story are questionable at best and they didn't even bother to vaguely explain them or tie-in with FFVIIs lore (which is why they feel entirely random).

It's a black stain in our poor hearts and it will remain so.

I saw someone claim that in DoC, Lucrecia had visions of the future... so that it would mean that this was already touched and is now expanded? (yeah I never played DoC, sorry Vincent).

There was a scene in which Lucrecia...
...sees some visions related to Sephiroth while having contractions:

But i don't recall if she had any more visions.
