So that was OG Cloud calling Remake Cloud buddy in that weird dream sequence right at the start? What does that even mean?

It's meant to be the inner "true Cloud" like in the OG. It's just in the OG "true Cloud" was usually just represented by text boxes on a black screen, later in the game he gets represented by his child/young teen self.

The developers actually discussed in the Inside the Remake videos about how it was a challenge to figure out how they were going adapt the scenes from the OG that were just text boxes with no images.

I didn't even realise it was Cloud the first time I played. I'm on a 2nd run so that surprised me when it popped up because I glossed over the appearance and assumed it was Zack since Cloud calling anyone buddy is so weird. If that's his real personality though wouldn't it be like the teenaged Cloud in cut scenes? This one seemed more upbeat when he talked.

A lot of people thought it was Zack too in the OG (at least in the English speaking fandom). But the lines of "surviving worse" is in reference to Cloud surviving the fall he and Tifa had as kids at Mt. Nibel with only scrapes.

I guess they didn't want to use young teen Cloud's model for it because maybe it they felt it would be too much of a show of hand. Also because "true Cloud" isn't only represented by his child self, it just becomes more frequent later in the OG.

Okay, so my biggest complaints so far is that Aerith's dodge is so fucking slow I think the continental drift could probably move faster than her. It's just easier to have her do a hit and run around the battle field.

Second, I hate that when an enemy hits you while you're in the middle of an ATB cast, you lose both the ATB bar and cast. For fuck's sake....

hers and Barret's dodge suck

I understand Barret not having much of a dodge, he doesn't look nimble.

The Reno & Rude fights were just annoying. I spend most of them running in circles waiting for the ATB just so I could use a potion. <_<
I do like how Rude is just a professional doing a job, whilst I wanna slice Reno's head in half. :rage:

I tried to steal from Rude a few times but failed, what item did I miss?

On the topic of grinding, I don't like it. I like to progress and also be challenged, so not only is it repetitive to me, but it ruins the excitement and challenge of later battles for me. A game should not require grinding imho. I did not need to grind at all in this game on normal mode.

Second, I hate that when an enemy hits you while you're in the middle of an ATB cast, you lose both the ATB bar and cast. For fuck's sake....

I think the most annoying part of this is that it also doesn't work the other way around. Even so... the battle system is hands down my favorite part of the gameplay. My brother apparently despises it for some reason, but I love it. It is strategic but with modern action elements, and very well balanced imho.

Stealing is a betch in this game. I do remember it failing in the OG sometimes, but not this much. I wonder if stagger makes it easier to steal? The only truly valuable thing I was able to steal was a weapon from a Train Graveyard boss.

I also like the combat system, I didn't in the demo but it's grown on me. It needs a 'Gambit' style system for whoever you're not using IMO. Barret should target long range enemies by default and I swear he doesn't.

I think someone else mentioned it: There is not enough combat, to much Materia and most of it's useless.
For every one battle the game will vomit two or three Materia at you. The ratio should be the other way round.

I maxed out something called 'Auto-Counter' Materia, the description says "Allows the use of the Auto-Counter ability'. :quote:
I have no idea what it does or if I ever even used it.

Oh and the Hand crane/crate mini game can go eat a dick. I don't know why but I found that so painful to get through.
It's like they heard the criticism from FF13 about endlessly running down linear corridors so broke it up with this crap.

(I'm just rambling out thoughts at this point.)

I do like the disk collecting for music, hearing the Costa del Sol theme made me smile. :mon:

I. Loved. This. CHAPTER!

I always liked Aerith being the funny cheeky girl she was in the OG but Square really outdid themselves with this game. SHE'S SO CUTE!!! ? Everything about her is SO ADORABLE! ❤️

THE only downside is that the side quests did begin to feel like they were dragging in this chapter. It seemed like it took me a lot longer than it should have to get through everything, and some of the monsters that I had to fight I ran around in circles forever not even able to find them.

And Reno and Rude were super tough. It took me multiple tries to get both of them, but in the end I was victorious. Really interesting that Aerith seems so familiar with both of them. I know in the original game she was familiar with Tseng, but I had always assumed that he was the only one that she interacted with on a regular basis. Now it seems like her and all the Turks are all good friends to the point where Rude showing up to her house is something that her mom just mentions casually because it's no big deal?

Also, I couldn't really catch what Aerith and Reno were saying to each other at the beginning of the fighting in the church, but it was almost as if Aerith was chastising Reno for not letting her know about his mission beforehand?

A: "Well I didn't know about it."

R: "Because it was a secret mission!"

Or something like that.

???

Also, wtf Biggs started the Orphanage???

EDIT: Alsoooooo I made it out of the house without making a single noise on my first try. :)

One thing that made me giggle, is that they decided to go with Nomura’s old concept art name for Cloud’s mother, and officially name her Claudia Strife?.

Wait, did I miss something? I don't remember seeing her name! It was probably right on the screen, too, wasn't it?. XD

I'm just glad her and Cloud look so much alike. It has always been my headcanon that Cloud looks like his mom. <3

Reno describes himself as Aerith's bodyguard which Aerith disagrees with, Reno then claims she merely didn't know because it was classified.

Almost forgot, in the thread for I think chapter 3 I was speculating if Cloud was maybe seeing the past instead of the future. No it's most definitely the future. I was shocked. But yes, THAT was a pretty big scene to tease us.

And...Aerith seemed a bit odd in her response to Cloud about Sephiroth. What are you hiding, Aerith?

I'll probably think of more later. This chapter was just so great...

No, Rude has you to tackle

:rudeball:

Honestly how does he just...float half the distance and latch on to you from SO FAR AWAY?!?

Aerith definitely has a degree of familiarity with Reno in the Remake though and she’s disagreeing with him in a very teasing manner. She is much more familiar with the Turks in the Remake compared to the OG.

Her disagreement is earnest enough that she is okay with Cloud killing her supposed own bodyguard's men on her behalf. It's not all fun and giggles with the Turks and Aerith is familiar enough to know that too.
