FFVII REMAKE CONFIRMED

I think, in that previous trailer, Cloud's voice was just lines from World of Final Fantasy. So it's possible he was never really involved.

Then again, he could be playing early game Cloud in a different way than he plays it once the real Cloud comes out of his Zack shell.
IIRC I'm pretty sure Steve Burton and Beau Billingslea explicitly said they were called in to do recording for the 2015 PSX trailer back then.

Okay I’m signing off for the night (I’m actually at an old friends place — we’ve been playing FF7 on his PS Classic!)

Overall, I liked it. The colours, the models, even the VA. Not sure about that music. The fact that Braver now includes a front flip is lol. The one thing I don’t feel positive about is the change to the Cloud/Aeris scene. In the trailer, he seems to have a tweak moment with Aeris (fine) then he brushes her aside as he tries to move along; she stops him by offering him a (presumably free) flower. In the OG, she offers to *sell* Cloud one (albeit at a discount) and whether or not he takes it, SHE walks away from HIM.

I had to say it. I won’t be able to help m’self guys.

Perhaps decision moments are still in and they're just not ready to show that yet? This could be one of several alternative scenes that can play out in real time. If you're nice to her, you get an affection point at the flower for free.

I mean, if they've managed to make Tifa completely invisible for this despite being referenced as active in the party, who knows what other elements they're still keeping up their sleeves for E3 and the final release? Clearly Nomura was being honest: They are waaaaaaaaaaaay further ahead than we were expecting.

I don't care who the voice actors are, as long as they're good. I might mind if they don't use the same Tseng voice actor they had in CC, but if they have a new actor and he has the same kind of bass voice, I won't care.

I'm not seeing the Clare Danes thing.

It's funny that people say FFXV was full of pretty people, because what struck me about them was the individuality and personality in their faces. To me, Prompto has always looked more like the Cloud of my imagination than SE's fully rendered Cloud ever has. These characters honestly all look a bit bland to me and all of them have chins and jaws that are too small. I was disappointed in Lunafreya in FFXV, too, after her wonderful look in the film. Maybe I'm just stuck in the uncanny valley, or maybe the chasm between the way I imagined them and how SE imagines them. I think it would have been cool if Jessie hadn't been made gorgeous, or Biggs either. You don't have to be a 10 in order to have adventures or people who care about you. Scarlet will have exactly the same perfect yet unreal face as all the other women, but coded to suggest she's maybe 29 instead of 22. I'm more interested to see what they'll do with Elmyra.

Midgar looks amazing, though. Just as it should be. Junk lying around everywhere....

I hope Scarlet could be made into be in her late 30's or early 40's.

I was 100% convinced there wouldn't be any new FFVIIR footage.

For the moment I feel nothing, similar to how I felt when FFVIIR was originally revealed. I think part of it is shock. Need some time to adjust to the aesthetics of this footage and the fact that there is new footage AT ALL.

What the hell are these MPs doing? They have guns but they are charging up to engage the sword-fighter in melee, running PAST Barret.

I had thought she was in 30's to begin with and Heidegger to be in his 40's. I can just imagine her being a mixture of Cruella DeVile in fashion and age, heavily cruel looking with heaps of make-up with a bright red lipstick that matches her outfit, and her eyes very sharp and dangerous. Sometimes I can hear the voice of Jessie from Team Rocket in the Pokemon Anime as Scarlet's voice, which matches her personality to me.

Also, it's possible there is more to the full context of the scene that simply is cut out from the trailer.
e.g. after Cloud says "a flower?" and takes it, Aerith could then wily say something like "that will be 1 gil please".
And then Cloud runs away laughing manically?... yeah sure I could see that :monster:

Having come home from work and watching this on my PC DDAAAMMMNNN it looks stunning. Aerith is absolutely beautiful. ...actually so is Jessie. It really kinda hits you hard when you know what's going to happen to them all. They're not just little lego like pixels anymore. They're going to have so much more emotion and their deaths (especially Aerith's) is going to sting so much harder.

As for voices, they still sound like the original actors to me (except Aerith, not sure who that is) Sephiroth sounds angrier or edgier or something, but it still sounds like George Newborn to me when he says "Cloud!" But I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Also I have to wonder with all the game play and seeing Tifa's name, I wonder if we can spot her somewhere in the background for a frame or two.

I share these sentiments, 100%. I think what bothered me about AC so much (yep, I don't like AC or ACC) was the aesthetic design, specifically the characters' faces. I always thought it was the mouths and teeth that bothered me, but you're totally right about the chins and jaw lines. They're all super cookie-cutter and soft. Obsidian also mentioned in the discord chat that Aerith's eyes look drawn on and I agree with that observation too. They're sort of...flat...not as in 2D, but just...lifeless? Idk. Weird looking faces. Which is strange, considering they seem to be going to great lengths to accomplish realism...?

Something I really enjoyed about the faces in Kingsglaive was their imperfections and resemblance to actual humans. Facial hair, textured skin that doesn't look like wax, freckles, wrinkles, crooked teeth, noses with shapes to them, etc. Those are the kinds of things that make CGI realism passable to me.

I would also appreciate the inclusion of characters who don't look like runway models. That's something that turns me off to t.v. shows pretty often, especially if I'm not already a fan of the content (i.e. having read source material / books). I'm sort of bugged that Cloud looks a bit more buff and healthy now...in the last trailer, he looked the part for someone who had just been pickled in kale juice for five years.

And with all that being said, I'm not complaining. Just making an observation. Still gong to play the holy heck out of this game no matter what. :monster:

Prompto = Cloud
OMG Howl I thought I was the only one. I would have loved a Cloud like that. This one has always been a little... alienating to me.
I loved skanky OG Reno with his probably bad teeth and louche posture, and then ACC turned him into the prettiest of pretty boys . WHY????

I always preferred Reno's AC/ACC look compared to the OG. But again, that's me. Then again, the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII has always taken my heart and has answered a lot of questions the OG left behind.

Don't need too many people with overdone hair. We already have Cloud, I really hope Zack is gonna be closer to Last Order look rather than his OG Raditz hair or CC still-too-long hair. Reno's OG hair is fine, AC overdone. They've been simplifying hair for characters (e.g Aerith's bangs), so one can hope.

Call me crazy, but I want to actually enjoy looking at the people I'm going to be playing with for over 50 hours. :mon:

To be honest, this has been S-E's design ethos with Final Fantasy since VIII. And there's precedent with the classics seeing as how Amano's designs definitely makes all the characters look ethereal and beyond any approximation to reality. In the end, main FF casts always looks incredibly good looking comparatively speaking. Even a rough and tumble dude like Cid looked pretty damn good AC and DC.

To be fair, the only one's who do have over the top hair are Cloud, Zack and of course Sephiroth. So I can't think of anyone else in the game who will have type of aesthetic.

And I think I remember it being said Zack's appearance including hair was meant to parallel him to Cloud, and seeing as how this remake is trying to stay consistent with its designs for characters, I can't see Last Order being drawn from at all. LO has essentially become its own thing, at this point.

There's only three guys with spiky hair and there's nothing wrong with them in Advent Children and Crisis Core. I love Reno's bright red hair, and I adore Zack's look in Crisis Core. But then, I'm one of the only few who loves the models of the Compilation.

At least Rude's hair will be easy. If they screw up Tseng's hair I'm going to Tokyo to give them a stern talking-to.

The thing is, Mako, I don't really enjoy looking at people who are unreally perfect to the point of being almost inhuman. I can enjoy looking at people whose inperfect faces are full of character and expression. I can enjoy looking at non-standard people, fat people, ugly people, etc... This is why I prefer British TV to American. The British can make a goddess out of Judi Dench. These FFVII people live in a rough world, I'd like to see them looking like it. Except Rufus, of course. The bishie prez.

Huh? Wha?

Where are you looking? Unless you're off colonizing a planet in uncharted deep space, here on Earth, I'm pretty positive that you are not one of "the few" who love the appearances of characters in the Compilation. :mon:

I mean, given the plethora of fanart, merchandise, cosplay, and fanclubs devoted to the characters... I don't know what you're talking about in regards to the "few" liking the look of characters in the Compilation. FFVII wouldn't be getting a remake if the Compilation and its designs weren't popular and sustaining an infinite loop of hype and interest.

Well I mean, Final Fantasy has always been about characters who are unrealistic and from a fantasy world far removed from reality. So its never bothered me, especially since it's typical of Japanese anime. I mean look at FFIV and FFXIII. The aesthetics and looks of those characters are beyond anything in terms of looks, fashion and design. I love it.

I mean, I can understand perfection "taking one out" of a story since if one expects a grounded experience, the looks should match said depiction. When it doesn't it ceases to be realistic and suspension of disbelief shatters.

But I never thought of FF in that context at all. :mon:

You're right, FFVII is a terrible dystopian world but it's still a Final Fantasy world where the same elements and design ethos exist. Although not a traditional fantasy, it's a techno-fantasy. There are lots of examples where the dark, dystopian setting of VII is juxtaposed with elements of a whimsical and surprisingly beautiful world.

Of course you're right, Mako. I don't want anyone to think I think they're wrong or something for liking the new character visuals. I guess for me it's just that, as the graphics get more and more hyper-realistic, I want my people to look realistic too. I don't want to be constantly reminded that this is a fake imaginary world. And I know SE can do it. In FFXV, of course all the boys were easy on the eye, but they also looked like real human beings. I guess they've simply decided to go with a different aesthetic in the Remake. In the end, their job is to please as many people as possible. And like someone else said, the expressiveness of the faces is a huge plus. That'll probably reconcile me to them in the end.

Well, that's an interesting point I can sorta get. With the higher level of graphics and quality of depiction, I can see what you mean in expecting realism since.. The display gets closer to realistic.

I never thought of it that way. Since I'm just of the opposite mind. I've always loved seeing how character designers balance the fantasy otherworldly aesthetic with making them have some approximation to people. I mean, FFXV's original tagline was "a fantasy based on reality," so the grounded setting and depiction of Noctis and co in more realistic (albeit extremely fashionable) outfits was perfect. Eos looked like a real world, albeit one where fantasy has ran wild. And inhabited by good looking people :mon:

The aesthetic the remake has gone for so far, seems to be one consistent to the original game along with elements from the Compilation. It's got the gritty look and setting, but also the beautiful, striking and memorable character designs we've seen since AC. Which, like you said, goes towards their goal of pleasing the most people.

Okay, so maybe a few million people, but still...I just happen to be a fan of the Compilation and I'd like to see the designs of the characters to remain even in the Remake. I don't want my Reno to look like an old guy, especially in the Remake.

The key thing about Final Fantasy is it's meant to look fantasy, not realistic. Sure Final Fantasy VII is a bit more modern and the same thing with Final Fantasy VIII, XIII and XV being the most realistic, but VII is still Fantasy. It's not meant to be realistic as much. If Square makes everything more realistic, that just destroys the purpose of placing players into a new world of different dimensions beyond imagination. It'd be like Parasite Eve or The Last Of Us.

Final Fantasy VII is not meant to be like reality even if the human elements are similar, but even then, it's a different whole world point of view.

We rewatched the trailer and bf is currently yelling at the lack of textures and how it doesn't look good enough for a PS4. Also we rewatched the JP trailer and it's definitely more catchy than the EN version I think... Will it be possible to have JP voices and EN subtitles?

Thanks for the news by the way I don't post much anymore but I came back these past months thinking "BTW when is FFVIIR coming out?" and you're always my top source for that :)

Sephiroth's Best Friend
I think everyone looks great in the trailer. They look more to how I imagined them in the original game, I guess. And even though Cloud and Sephiroth sound different, I still think they sound really good. I remember hearing Cloud say a line from the original game in Dissidia NT and I thought "I hope he doesn't sound like that...".
