It will still probably come with a day 1 patch right? Does anyone have a better idea of delayed games and patches?

Day one patches are practically a guarantee nowadays. They can be quite big in terms of data size, particularly for large-scale AAA releases and presumably especially so for 7R given the sheer size of the game. Red Dead 2 is the only comparable game I can think of in terms of data size, and that had a 3GB day one patch, so perhaps not too huge of a leap to expect something similar for this.

Thanks! Really took some doubts of mine.

On another note, I went to check in the FFVIIR reddit, and my IQ just dropped 20 points ?? Jokes aside, but I thought the reception to the delay wouldnt be as bad as this. Didn't think it was gonna be all roses and rainbows but some people are actually really pissed off, and some are saying Square is "punishing us for the leaks" lul

I'm slightly disappointed they've delayed FFVIIR btw, but I'm not all that bothered by it. I'd rather the game was well polished - they know they have to get this right. I managed to move my annual leave in work and it's now on a Friday rather than a Tuesday, so that's good. Tuesday releases are fucked up anyway, Friday is the day games tend to release in Europe.

Yeah, I'm glad it's on a Friday instead of a Tuesday for vacation purposes because now I don't have to take as many PTO days and it gives me more days off thanks to an additional weekend. I also don't have to worry about moving my teaching schedule around like I did with the March 3rd release date, so this has been a good delay for me outside of a month-longer wait.

Thanks! Really took some doubts of mine.

Avoid GameFAQs as much as you can. You would've thought that Square just admitted they created the flop of the century over there with some of the posts I've read.

I feel for those who booked their holidays. I'm in the very few lucky ones who have enough patience to wait for the PS5 to play this though, so it doesn't affect me - even though I have pre-ordered the game, I do not have a PS4. Hopefully, it will mean that those able to play day 1 will be able to enjoy it even more!

Baffling, honestly. What's another month after over 4 years? Imagine how Doom fans felt after Eternal got delayed for 4 months.

Wait hold on, April 10th is Good Friday, that's a holiday here. How's that gonna work for me then?

This :monster:

I've never ordered from the SE store before, how do they normally send stuff? Royal Mail doesn't deliver on bank holidays and I'm not sure about other delivery companies.

And I'm yet another person who has to try and re-organise their holiday. Which is very unlikely 'cus someone else has that week already booked off :sigh: looks like I'll only get the bank holiday weekend to play, if it turns up that is :mon:

The fact this release date coordinates with Easter now gives hilarious advent parallels for Sephiroth. They should have made this the release date the first time.

Anyways, as Miyamoto said, "a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."

They must be adding something and tweaking stuff. It's gotta be worth it

"a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."

That's not true though. Look at FFXV. The epitome of "not rushed", but really disappointing (in my eyes, anyway). Meanwhile, on the other side of the spectrum, FFXIV was terrible, but then it got better later.

I'm just spouting all this to say a good game is good, a bad game is bad. Time has very little to do with it.

Hard disagree. FFXV Royal Edition is the definitive edition of XV and an amazing game with all of its content and story pieces in place as they should be. Honestly speaking XV was still unfinished when released on Day One and it was rushed out due to the development hell that was Versus XIII and Square Enix needed to put something out or risk their entire financial fiscal year. They're lucky XV became one of their best sellers to date.

Time has a lot to do with it. A game rushed through post production and patched to completion isn't the same thing as a polished game finished it's first go round. XV is proof of that. I'd rather them get it right the first time.

Right, so the "rushed game" was not "forever bad."

You're right, it wasn't, but for a lot of people and it's published history, the game came out unfinished, controversial and carries a stigma for all its controversy. There are fans who just walked away and wrote it off due to the Day One Edition. That's not a good thing.
