FFVII Remake delayed to April 10th Worldwide

Dayummm, the window between RE3's official announcement and actual release was HELLA short, no? Or have I just not been paying significant attention? [Not complaining, the original psx RE trilogy is what I came of age with alongside the psx FF'S so....this is a very good time to be part of that generation, haha. But I should probably talk about my RE3 feelings elsewhere on the board...]

Speaking of RE3, I noticed that the cover girl (I don't follow RE much since I never played it back in the PS1 days) seems to look a lot like Crowe from Kingsglaive. The facial resemblance is very strong, at least to me. I saw some images a while back and noticed it immediately. Anyone else see this?

@Jairus: Urgh. You've reminded me how Jill and Carlos' looks are (sadly) completely different from the original RE3 (or how they look in the Umbrella Chronicles game, to clarify) but at least the preorder costume DLC sorta fixes it.

Isnt...that the point? As in RE2, these are standalone, 'reimaginings'...not some kind of slicked up PS4 versions. I'm actually pumped about that. FF character designs, the RE ones are not...

Personally I'm not too bothered by the delay. Hell, I know it'll be a very unpopular opinion, but I would be ok with it being delayed longer than April.... so long as the delay = better game.

My thoughts too. I propose the remake should've been pushed back to May 8th. That's three weeks after Cyberpunk 2077 and three weeks before The Last of Us 2.

There's an absolutely disgusting amount of stuff to consume in the current age of content. I have many other games to play haha.

On patches: To suggest critical bugs should be fixed post-launch is to create an uphill battle for the remake for the rest of its legacy. Does anyone really want the same debates that surrounded FFXV to follow the remake? Games are front-loaded in both sales and congruent users. Those impressions stick around in the collective unconscious. It's best to wait.

I dread to think what XV would've been like had it not gotten that 2 month delay. I recall the May 2016 leak suggesting that the Xbox build was practically unplayable at that point and I absolutely believe it now, considering the state the game launched in.

I wonder if we would've gotten the young adult version of Noctis because I remember that middle-aged Noctis wasn't even done yet by the time the leaks occurred lol. I remember laughing that leak off because it sounded like something a high schooler would come up with as it sounded so fake. When the leaks later that year around September came around and confirmed all of it, I couldn't believe it lol.

Mh, I don't quite agree, because RE 1 Remake (Gamecube/eventually PC) had everybody looked polished as HD versions of their original selves and included that whole Lisa subplot the original game missed out on. Why RE2 (which didn't give us Claire A + Leon B different scenarios) and now 3 (supposedly even more further removed, story-wise!) couldn't be a modern telling of the originals, I just don't understand. (I was happy that RE 7 was a return to the series roots, though.) It's not some new elements I mind, moreso completely negating stuff from the original that irks me.

But, anyway, on topic with FF7: Would be kind of amusing if after all that fuss, we get the Demo released on March 3rd. I'm hoping for another new trailer, too, since December gave us that super small one (...and not all of us are up to our knees in the demo content spoilers :awesome:).

Aside from looks, I'm not aware of the Remake of RE2 negating anything from the original. Unless you mean stuff that didn't make it in the Remake?

That would be so chickenshit but I could see them doing it...

Every situation will of course differ. But for me the delay was pretty hard hitting. Because they might as well have delayed it more significantly here. I won't have the time to pick it up in April. Early March was good. I'd have plenty of time before late March to play, enjoy, and at least beat the main story for the first part of this remake. It was all pretty good.

But now...no chance. I'll be at best in the middle and most likely in the early goings of playing Persona 5 when this drops. Maybe I can still pick it up, but it's not getting played for a month or more. Which of course doesn't impact anyone else, just personal grumblings. Oh well. It's too bad since early sales are so key to how a game is looked at in general, but also by the companies. But there's just no reason to buy a game I won't have the time to play anywhere near the current and hopefully real release date.

What the honest reason for the delay is, I don't know. They can say it is for polish, but not like they'd say anything different if other motivations were at play. It doesn't really matter. They'll use the time to make whatever minor tweaks they can. It just is unfortunate. They gave themselves a pretty sizable window with this original release date to have the game ready. Didn't work out.

But seriously, is there some issue where you are? Stateside, the mail service does not suspend its service on that day.

It's the same in the UK. There's no post on Sundays (unless it's either delivered by a specialist courier who charge extra for the service or by a magical owl) and generally no post at all on public holidays. There's a a chance some people could get it on the 9th, but most will probably arrive on the 11th or 13th.

I'm always surprised, given the US' reputation vs Western Europe for religiousness vs secularism, that it's the UK and Germany that close for Good Friday. iirc, Germany even closes for stuff like the Ascension??

Yep, it's a bit odd. I can't speak for Germany, but in the UK, things aren't really closed for religious reasons (except for Christmas, and even that now has a lot of non-religious traditions, like the Queen's Speech and Top of the Pops). Most people aren't hugely religious, and those that are tend to be more low key about it than in other countries. I don't really know what it's like elsewhere, but it's also possible that the UK has higher than average amounts of different religions in smaller areas (certainly where I live, in the Midlands).

For most people, it's really just about having some time off, and it only lines up with traditional religious holidays because those days were always non-working days and there's no huge benefit in moving them.
