If they did a carbon copy of the OG with no additions, just modern graphics, I'm sure they could've done this with one game. I'm glad they didn't go that route though
I think they would need to considerably lower their graphical aspirations for that, while maintaing reasonable sized areas and turn-based.. at least if they want a 5 year development project.

Angry black man stereotype or not I really like some of Mr.T's accessories, like his bangles.

He's like, "my best friend, who happens to be black with a gun arm" I just can't help but shake my head at Barrett, but maybe it's just me and it doesn't matter but I just get that reaction from it, like it's coarse and sensitive. If I was black it would upset me. I am actually am bi-racial a bit so I kind of have a different approach to the subject but I'm not crying poltiical correctness, nor am I horrendously upset, it's just some weird observation.

Could it be said that Mr.T is a bad stereotype?

I laughed raucously at that Butterfinger meme.

Also, that's a shame that the angry black man stereotype has been spreading to the UK. The UK always seemed to have better race relations than the US, to me. In spite of being somewhat stereotypical of a character, though, Barret has always been one of my favorites and among the most relatable FF characters to me. He's not Mr. T - he's Barret.

Barret’s mo-cap performance is hammier than Barret’s 1997 animation. It’s the dip at the knees that he’s CONSTANTLY doing. Like he’s constantly lifting a goat. I hate it.

I thought they were gonna take advantage of the subtle movements that real people have? Like, who needs to lift an invisible goat for every sentence?? This is also not really suited for Barret because to me he’s always been a chest-forward person, and being a knees-forward person is a much weaker choice in terms of body language.

I am noticing this because a) it was part of my degree and b) Horizon Zero Dawn has the best body language in a game I’ve ever seen and has basically spoiled me for any future challenger in this regard.

It might also be a translation issue, perhaps his body language feels more natural when the voice is Japanese? I dunno.

The characters aren't completely realistic. The women of the game certainly have larger eyes than a human normally would have. Cloud has the hair. Barret was bound to have something unrealistic about his figure, especially given the original art.

I don’t really understand how what you’re saying relates to what I’m saying, so I’m just gonna let it be. I don’t like the way Barret’s mo cap artist does “da dip” it’s hammy and not in a Barret way.

The body language is synched to the Japanese performance. That's always an issue with dubbed games, and one that lip synching alone doesn't solve. They'd have to do a completely new mocap performance for the dub to make it feel right, but that's probably an unrealistic amount of work to expect even for a AAA game.

I actually hate the combat system after playing the demo... The ATB gauge feels like a restrictions to normal action style combat to me...

It like instead of the normal ?∆ ??∆ ???∆ ????∆ combo feel that has more powerful 'O' or X special movie you can use every now and then.

Instead you have to wait to use a normal combo finish with cloud... His stace change is just lame to me. So unreliable because you get hit with long rang attacks all the time. So if you play with shortcuts and play fast pace like me then its almost of no use because doging takes you right out of it. And I constantly doge.

At for the demo the fight felt broken to (a unpopular opinion I know)

Yeah I lol’d when the game was like “you can switch to a mode that counters melee attacks! Try it out!” In a room full of semi-auto wielding police. I don’t think I’ve used Punisher mode at all, and that seems to serve me just fine. Cloud’s quick, he’s slick, his memory’s thick!

I don’t feel like the game punished me for foregoing Cloud’s triangle move. Barret’s triangle move though, now THAT is something I used a lot.

I think your issue is that you're trying to play it like a DMC/Bayonetta game, going by the combo inputs you're describing, which is not what this game is at all.

I legit just saw this Twitter video where Cloud just does an insane combo, switching between Punished and Operator with no delay, and ending it all off with a roll+skill. Dont know how they pulled it off, but I mean....this game isnt meant to combo and it still kinda lets you have a lil bit of fun jn that regard

There actually is an intentional combo system. Linking attacks from each mode before their finishers are performed and using free targeting (instead if fixed) to allow for continuous enemy attacking allows consecutive attacks that inflict massive damage and stagger. Certain hits initiate combo attacks while holding square in Operator Mode let's Cloud perform an AOE sword attack that ends whatever combo string he was performing.

There's a very intentional combo system here. Itll either be fully expounded upon in the full game or be an in-depth mechanic requiring full testing and exploration. But it exists.

As others have stated, Punisher mode is absolutely useful against the Shock Troopers who mostly use melee (and tend to dodge your normal strikes). Same with the Guard hounds. It's also beneficial to switch into when your target is staggered as you do a lot more damage.

I found Fire for the knockdown, then a few Operator attacks finished off with a Focused Thrust worked really well getting staggers on the dogs. Then like you say, it's easy to go ham with Punisher mode for big boy damage.

I can somewhat agree about the music. So far, I still feel the original music is better. They could have simply added an option to play with the original game music or the revamped music. I would have gladly played through the game trying out both.

That being said - it doesn’t break the game for me. The game is still incredible and everything I could have dreamed of. I’m so happy to be around to witness it and play it. Hopefully I’ll be around long enough to play through each and every “part” of the remake!
