A mod that disables the Whispers would actually be quite fascinating. Not only would it show the events of the game as they look to any character who can't see the Whispers but it would also reveal parts of scenes that are otherwise obscured by the ghosts.

I was just thinking this on my latest playthrough, that a “no whispers” mod would serve the dual purpose of pissing me off less frequently and also showing what non-Aerithers would see in Remakeverse.

How would the fights work?

I would have to look into the specifics, but the model is usually apart from the hit box, so during the whisper fights you might be able to lock on to the invisible hit box. Or you could CTD ??‍♀️

My priority right now is using the text editor to change all instances of Aerith to Aeris. ? With voices turned off, one could actually rewrite the whole script to have them say whatever one wanted.

I would think FF7 hyperpurism would at least draw the line at uncorrecting mistranslated names but apparently not lol screw it, “this guy are sick” mod when?

Good idea, Tifa can say that when Marco attacks Cloud. :wacky:

Also, lol at having no problem with Ronald McDonald Sephiroth but “drawing the line” at a rename.

I think this settles the wild take that the Remake's setting design was somehow less artistic or creative than the OG's. Perspective, distance and camera focus change everything. This is a great example of how camera and scene focus determine the artistic design and emphasis for certain locations.

The Mako Reactor elevator looks particularly bland in this mod when compared to the OG, but what's the actual focus during that elevator scene in the Remake? The close up on the characters, their dialogue, expressions and interactions. With the OG, the game isn't going to zoom in or emphasize the blocky models of the characters; visual focus is instead brought more to the overall environment background to not just leave text boxes as the only background images on the screen.

This mod is so cool and really captures how design sensibilities change depending on how one visually interacts with a game. It shows just how much detail was put in recreating these OG FFVII locations accurately while also showing off where parts were empathized and others de-emphasized based on the medium.

I’d say the former is just screwing around while the latter speaks more to wanting to make things as close as possible to the past even to the point of including mistakes, but if you must know, a great deal of these mods are just plain cursed as all hell lol

I lean hard into non-Christian traditions of myth/folklore, where canon and trademarks just don’t apply. I think I may prefer Purple Cloud, or the Barret’s Theme mod, or McSephiroth, why is that upsetting to you? I’m not forcing you to do it, and I’m not insisting anything I like is canon, because that’s just not how I approach things.

That’s a really neat proof of concept trailer for a “classic cam” mod. I wonder if they still had to control Cloud as normal while filming it. Would be disorienting. It’s a big task to implement the kind of camera you see while in the fire escape in Chapter 2 (there are only a few other instances with a fixed cam in the game: when Aerith is dangling in Ch 8 is the only one that comes immediately to mind). Turning the whole game into that is not my cup of tea, but neat to see!
