Thanks to this site, I was able to find a game rip of all the music from the cutscenes so it’ll be great to finally get some official titles on these tracks

What’s your favorite new song from FF7R that isn’t a remake of an OG song? Mine is “Avalanche’s theme” love the heroic, patriotic vibes I get as I’m first exploring sector 7 with tifa. Makes me feel like the start of an incredible journey.

“Avalanche’s Theme” is great along with the different variations of it that play throughout the game, like when Cloud is telling Barret about Jessie and Biggs, also during Barrett’s resolution, and when Cloud, Tifa, and Barret are first walking through the remains of the plate at the start of chapter 15.

Then there’s “Midnight Rendezvous”, “Collapsed Expressway”, and “High Five”, going from one track to the other set up the mood for that part of the story pretty nicely for me. “Smash ‘Em, Rip ‘Em” is awesome especially when it uses that motif from Tifa’s theme, and it took me months to notice pieces of Aerith’s theme in another one of my favorite tracks, “Waiting to Be Found”. I also thought “The Day Midgar Stood Still” / “Fires of Resistance” were epic as hell and far better tracks than what the OG used for that part of the story.

Easily my favorite OST in any game I’ve played!

I have A Trap Is Sprung's various variants on repeat. Definitely my favorite of the Remake specific themes. Very MGS to me, and I love it. Gave Reactor 5 a feeling of epicness.

Though technically the leitmotif of that one is from the main battle theme, it uses it in a way that is quite unique.

My second choice is the Rufus fight theme.

Weird, some of the titles from OST 1 are on there too; The Airbuster, The Valkyrie, Infinity's End and more.
I wonder if those might be different edits or extended versions. The Valkyrie notably didn't have the beginning part on the first soundtrack. I had to edit it back in myself from a Youtube rip :'D
edit: Midgar Expressway is straight up called "long ver." so I guess that's gotta be it.

The beginning part of The Valkyrie is most likely a separate track "Run, Dammit, Run" in the tracklist

I'm surprised nobody mentioned "Ghoul" and "Whispers Theme" as their favorite songs. I love all Remake's brand new themes, but these 2 are the best!

"Ghoul" is a good shout, I've picked that up recently as a good one to listen to even if it does remind me of Leviathan based difficulties.

Of the new tracks "Tightrope" (with "Undercity Suns"), "Maze Of Scrap Metal" and its battle tune (basically Chapter 6 is musical glory) and "Hell House" are real stand outs and are regularly on play.

Nice to the OST Plus on its way out as well, I'm quite sure that "Fleeing The Church" will be on repeat for me.

I've said it before but they absolutely nailed the OST. Nailed it.

Sorry for double post but...

I came across an opinion, that FF7Remake music is overexploited. Author of the opinion says so because he has been listning to many remix albums and similar. I don't know what to think about it...

It's like saying that Halcyon On & On by Orbital is a bad tune cause I've heard it thousands of times... (Halcyon On & On is amazing).

I’m pretty sure that version of “Anxiety” in disc 1 plays during the flashback Cloud has of Tifa as a kid in the beginning of the remake (“are you ignoring me?!”) but the subtitle is “False Memories”...interesting...
dang you beat me to it. I just noticed that also. Are they dramatically altering Cloud's past? Why would that scene be a false memory?

There are actually 3 tracks with "Memory" in the title.
  • Disc 1 - Track 2 - Anxiety - False Memories
  • Disc 2 - Track 2 - Bitter Memory
    • Considering it's placement in the track list, this is most assuredly the scene where Cloud watches Aerith trotting away from him and he suddenly tears up after seeing some sort of vision (probably her death).
    • If true, I think this makes me a lot more confident that the Cyclical History of Gaia theory is true. Cloud is seeing a "bitter memory", implying it's not a flash forward, but a memory in the past (a past cycle of Life). This is great, as it is one more piece of evidence against the dumb time-travel theories.
  • Disc 2 - Track 21 - Aerith's Theme - Memories
    • I cannot figure out what this track is and when it is played. Anyone have any idea?
    • In the track list, it is situated after "Strength Through Suffering" (a theme played after Cloud sees Sephiroth after platefall) and is before a track titled "Elmyra's Reservations."

I’ve seen some people observe that Tifa wanting Cloud’s attention during their childhood is a change from the OG, where she would typically not pay attention to him. Maybe he’s remembering this falsely as a build up to the eventual reveal that they weren’t as close as they seemed to be?

I like the idea of Tifa actually wanting to include Cloud in her friends group but he’s too shy to accept her invitation, so part of me hopes this isn’t the case but I can’t think of another reason for this title.

This is great, as it is one more piece of evidence against the dumb time-travel theories.
I’m not sure what you mean but I’m interested! Mind elaborating?

The music that plays while Elmyra is talking about adopting Aerith and her husband’s death uses part of the melody from Aerith’s theme, so I’m guessing maybe that?

That is really smart and interesting. Man, if that is what they are doing, then Nojima, Kitase, and Nomura really did their homework and due-diligence... maybe there will be an answer for why the hell Tifa didn't react properly/scared when she realized Sephiroth was in the Shinra building with them.

For this track (Disc 2 - Track 2 - Bitter Memory) , I think this is a bit of evidence for the Cyclical Rebirth of Gaia theory, since obviously Cloud did not time-travel or Travel the Lifestream or anything like that. People are claiming the Stamp bag change can be explained via alternate timelines or time-travel, claiming that Aerith and Sephiroth are time-traveling via the Lifestream. While this is still possible, I do not think it is correct. Since Cloud is getting these visions also, and he has nothing to do with the Lifestream, and since the song is called "Bitter Memory", I think this is evidence that this is an event in the past, precisely, an older cycle of Gaia. Remake Gaia has born again. Rebirth (I see you, One Winged Angel - Rebirth). Rather, somehow (perhaps via his link with Jenova or Sephiroth who are both travelers of the Lifestream) Cloud is seeing visions of what appear to be a future but are really a vision of the past cycle of history. I believe possibility 2 is much more likely.

The question in this theory is, how did Gaia Rebirth? I surmise that Omega did it, or perhaps Holy. The question still remains, how and why is Jenova in this cycle of history.... did she re-fall upon Gaia? This is the one thing that makes me worry my theory is incorrect, and that perhaps an alternate timeline explains it better.

However, the constant mention of "memories" throughout the game and the tracklists makes me feel strongly that MEMORY, and therefore, HISTORY is a major theme of Remake, and would nicely fit with the OG's original themes.

The music that plays while Elmyra is talking about adopting Aerith and her husband’s death uses part of the melody from Aerith’s theme, so I’m guessing maybe that?

Hmm, I can't seem to find it in that scene... also, the OST PLUS tracklist has a track titled "Elmyra's Reservations" which is separate from "Aerith's Theme - Memories".

Perhaps there’s a way to reconcile both ideas? I mean, if we were to assume that Aerith or Sephiroth at least possess some level of foreknowledge, then I think in a sense they are reliving certain events.

I don’t know if it’s a matter of Aerith or Sephiroth traveling back in time or if they just have knowledge of the future that they’ve yet to experience, but if I’m not mistaken, it’s at least confirmed that the remnants of Sephiroth from AC actually have traveled back in time via the three Whispers that form Bahamut during the last chapter.

I guess Cloud’s visions might also have something to do with Jenova/Sephiroth messing with time but it’s anyone’s guess at this point!

Hmm, I can't seem to find it in that scene... also, the OST PLUS tracklist has a track titled "Elmyra's Reservations" which is separate from "Aerith's Theme - Memories".

The melody of Aerith’s theme can really be divided into three phrases, with the beginning of the first phrase being the most recognizable probably because it’s the beginning of the song and also it’s association with the OG cutscene of Aerith’s death as the white materia falls into the water of the Forgotten City.

From 0:50 to 1:33, the music is like a slower version of the third of these phrases in Aerith’s theme (can I just say, that subtle shot of Barret when Elmyra says Aerith’s not her daughter by blood is friggin’ brilliant).

Throughout the cutscene, the music mixes original stuff with bits of Aerith’s theme save for specific moments like 2:32 where it directly uses the first phrase of Aerith’s theme, or the use of the second phrase at 3:52 and the third phrase at 4:25.

Once Tseng arrives at 4:58, the music switches to a more ominous theme that itself is also a take on the melody of Aerith’s theme mixed with the melody of the infiltrating Shinra music (I absolutely adore when the remake does stuff like this with the music).

I think “Elmyra’s Reservations” is the music from the later cutscene after Cloud and the gang bring Wedge to Aerith’s house and Cloud requests Elmyra’s permission to save Aerith for the second time, right before the chapter 14 resolution.
