Yeah, the blitzbomb is absolutely ridiculous. Like, of all the things that could happen to Tidus, he kicks a mine disguised as a blitzball? What?

I guess there's no such thing as land or marine mines in Besaid?

Doesn't excuse the fact that it could have been a boulder though. It's kind of hilarious imagining Tidus with this compulsive need to kick things that look like blitzballs. :wacky:

X-2 didn't ruin X's ending because Tidus was shown to come back at the end of X.

"But it was left ambiguous etc etc" except some of the Fayth dropped hints that this might be a thing, Auron saying "this is your world now" etc.

Of course you could choose not to connect the dots but Tidus' return was there all along imo. :P

The video at the end of X was never meant to be Tidus returning, though. Not initially. When they threw X-2 together, someone just noticed it and thought, "Hey, let's use that and make it part of the cut scene!"

Because honestly, if the perfect ending was planned from the start then that kind of just ruins the entire ending of FFX for me. :/

Well, at least one good thing was able to come out of this fiasco. :monster:

But that just makes it worse! No reason was given! Tidus came back way too easily!

I just hope all this new content that we're getting (and possibly a new game?) will maybe give us a reason. Such as,
maybe Tidus being back is what caused Sin to come back, kind of like an open flood gate, which is why the Fayth didn't want to do it right away, or something.
I'd buy that.

+1 for the 'sin's return is tidus' fault'

i have read people interpret 'eternal cost' as meaning that tidus' annihilation is the cost of the eternal calm.

I recall the Fayth in FFX implying that in return for ending their 1000 long dreaming, the least they could do is dream up Tidus for one lifetime.

I recall the Fayth in FFX implying that in return for ending their 1000 long dreaming, the least they could do is dream up Tidus for one lifetime.

But if this was already their mindset in the first game, then the ending would have been different. It seemed very final to me that Tidus would vanish and could not come back.

There needs to be a reason why the Fayth would let it end this way initially. If there was no consequence to bringing Tidus back, then he never should have vanished. But if there is, and that's why the Fayth were hesitant, then that would be acceptable. If they KNEW without a doubt there was a chance that bad things would happen, then I could see how it all would go down the way it did.

That's what I'm hoping will happen with all this new content.

The Shiva Fayth says this

"Should the dreaming end, you too will disappear -- Fade into Spira's
sea, Spira's sky. But do not weep, nor rise in anger. Even we were once
human. That is why we must dream. Let us summon a sea in a new dream
world. A new sea for you to swim."

Oh I remember that one now.

Kind of seems to imply another version of Dream Zanarkand that isn't connected with Spira.

I actually once wrote a fanfic about it. Or at least began to. :monster:

What I mentioned was in the first game, like Kuja mentioned. When I heard that line, I then considered that the Fayth would have to be ungrateful shitbags to not reward a hero like Tidus with the benefit of a 70 odd years or so when they just spent a millenium dreaming up an entire civilization.

It would be interesting to learn that they hesitated initially because they didn't know if it would make the Farplane more unstable than it already was, then went ahead with it after the events of X-2 when Yuna saved their asses again.

Whatever the case, Yuna definitely knows more during Will than she's saying.

I wonder at what point they started working on X-3... they just happened to have those new model renders of Tidus and Yuna for the cover of the novel :P

I'm just saying there needs to be a concrete reason for waiting until the end of X-2 to do it.

At the ending of X I just assumed Tidus couldn't maintain a corporeal form in Spira without Yu Yevon present. Remember, the existence of Sin was intertwined with the Dream Zanarkand and being able to cross over to the real world from it. It's not that the Fayth wouldn't do it, it always seemed like they couldn't do it when there was no longer anyone around who was powerful enough to summon it.

Then X-2 changed that without telling us why. There needs to be a why.

T: "You were giggling"
Y:"Not telllliinnng!"
T: "Yunaaaa!"
Tidus said in a pitiful voice! It was funny... and so endearing that Yuna ate it up.
T:"Ouch!"
When she looked, Tidus was holding the back of his head.
T:"What the..."
Tidus turned around, surprised.
What caught his eye was a slowly rolling ball.
It was the color of tanned leather... about the same size as one used in blitzball matches.
Tidus:"A blitzball?!"
While looking for the owner, Tidus began to walk towards the ball.
Yuna watched.
One Step.-----
Yuna was surprised by the tears that suddenly began flowing from her eyes.
She sunk to the ground, holding herself with both arms, she realized... she was being overcome with sadness.
There was a loud sound, and the force of the shock sent her flying through the air.
In front of Yuna's eyes, something went flying with great force; Tidus' head, with the look of surprise still etched onto it.
Yuna lost consciousness.

Far left two sentences:
"Remember him. His name... was Tidus, correct?"
"An unknown voice called to Yuna"

Here's my translation of that.

Im not sure what ぶられて is. Im kinda guessing at the meaning of the sentence 驚きの表情が張り付いたティーダの首だった。
播 = to plant or to sow. I figured that could mean bury

Tidus started walking toward the ball, looking for it's owner. After one step... As Yuna watched the situation, she was surprised by the tears that suddenly started welling up. Her feelings were greatly shaken, and she couldn't stand. As she crouched on the ground, holding herself with both arms, she was overcome with unbearable sadness.

大きな音がしたと同時に、ユウナは激しい衝撃に吹き飛ばされて宙を舞っていた。目の前を勢いよく飛んで行ったのは、驚きの表情が張り付いたティーダの首だった。
Just then, there was a huge sound. Yuna was blown back by a violent explosion, thrown, spinning through the air. Something flew in front of her eyes. It was Tidus' head, fixed in an expression of surprise.

My guess is that our unknown unsent killed him/possibly shipwrecked them too because Tidus's return has fucked with the Farplane's stability.

What happened to all the threads about Eternal Cost at the FFX-3 Chat forum? Does anyone know?

I was updating every day to read up on anything new that was uncovered, but now it's not showing any of those threads. That was pretty much the best place for new info coming out of this thing, so this is disappointing.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found them. You just have to register an account now.

i could answer this myself by playing ffx/x2 hd, but i don't have the time right now :sadpanda:

did they ever mention gods and goddesses in ffx? i guess you wouldn't hear much given the game takes place when yevon is in charge, but the novel mentions a bunch of deities in the non-tidus chapters (only read boys side so far)

ルチェーラ (luchera, goddess of war)
クシュ (kushu, goddess of rich harvest)
スローン (sloan, god of revenge)
イファーナル (ifahnal, god of beauty)
ヴァルム (valum, god of order)
グアルド (guado, protector of the farplane)

their names could be other spellings, i didn't really think much about it

i am wonder if these chapter are from the past (it mentions a mage and his summoner daughter, which sounds like yu yevon and yunalesca), and some of these names transform over time into familiar ones (guado being an obvious example, and there are the べドール/behdoll which is a few letters off from アルベド?)

or that's all nonsense and why i should not theorise

on another note 'blitzball' bombs aren't just a sudden out of the blue thing in the novel as it seems from just reading the tidus passage, since they feature in the story before it

They definitely don't mention any deity other than Yevon in FFX. As for X-2, if people did even have records of them still, they would either be too suspicious of them or still too far up Yevon's ass to care, I bet.

Does Eternal Cost treat them as real beings or just stuff people believed in then without specifying their validity?

just stuff people believed in, from the sounds of it.

there was also a belief that when you died, and if you were a good person, you became a flower on the farplane. which sounds nice

That's a pretty idea. And a nice in-universe explanation (even if not true) for the flowers on the Farplane.

So, did Tidus and Yuna really bone on the boat or was it one of those "maybe they did, maybe they didn't" things?
