Final Fantasy Type-0 Thread

There's absolutely nothing tedious or grindy about the plat surprisingly. The only one that might be considered so is "Breed 100 Chocobos" but when you get greens that net you around 10 per breed and if you luck out and get 99 from one breed like I did it's not even remotely grindy.

It's officially the easiest FF plat IMO. It doesn't even require you to do anything difficult, like the "ultimate dungeon" (Tower of Agito). You barely have to set foot in any optional content at all to do it, and anything you have to do outside the main (like solo-ing a mission with just one, two, or three characters) can be done in mission select on the very first mission on the easiest difficulty. It's a total breeze. The only one you need to watch out for is the chocobo one, because the eggs they lay take 6 hours to hatch (free time in the game gets you between 1-8 days between each mission, each day being 12 hours, each optional event costing 2 hours, leaving the academy costs 6) but honestly toward the end you end up with a shit load more free time than you need even if you do absolutely everything. It's early on that free time is a resource. To be clear, breeding doesn't actually cost any time at all, you just have to make 6 in game hours pass (by doing events or leaving) so that the eggs hatch, and they hatch at least 5-7 per breed even with shitty greens.

Any kind of optional trophies can be done at the last free time, which is after the first mission in chapter 7. So as long as you make a save there it's fine, and the only reason you need to save there is because
getting the airship is optional and requires the completion of an "Expert Mission". Expert missions are kind of meant either as a challenge or as part of the second playthrough, but the one in question is around your level range at that point anyway so it's silly not to do it
.

Anything else that might be considered grindy (harvest X phantoma) is gotten through natural play by like chapter 4 or 5.

So yeah, super easy plat, and fun too.

Have you played the game Tres? If so, what's your opinion overall?
I have not played it, sadly. I watched others play it back when I didn't think we would be getting it.
Ugh fucking
Machina, I genuinely don't think I've hated a Final Fantasy character this much... ever. What a fucking cunt.
Seriously. Never has another earned my ire to this extent.
Triple post alert!

Just finished the game for the first time, glad to say completely unspoiled.
I have to say I wasn't expecting that ending. Wow 0_0. Emotional and very well done. I'm looking forward to seeing these supposed extra scenes in the second playthrough, is there anything in particular I should look out for? I was expecting to learn more about Class 0, their origin etc. and why they call that uppity ho "mother". Is that information anywhere in the game?
I want to say "yes" at least about
Arecia. I can't remember if what she is was explained in the game or just the Ultimania. I don't think you get any more about the kids' origins, though.

The alternate (real?) ending is something you'll want to see, obviously, as is when Cid confronted the Rursan Judge.

So after a couple failed starts I pressed through the first few hours of this game and the flip switched - I'm into it.
As everyone has said, the story is kinda detached without really any context. However, the gameplay is a ton of fun and the number and variety of playable characters is very enjoyable.

It's great wandering out with another new party or main you haven't controlled yet and learning that character. They all feel sufficiently distinct, and picking a favorite for the story missions has been fun.

The remaster is totally competent, it looks like a good PS2 game, which is to be expected of a former PSP game. The only really jarring thing is the high-quality character models next to low quality ones, but it doesn't bug me very much.

I'm looking forward to pressing on in this and hopefully clearing it off my backlog in the next week or so.

This. I was enjoying the combat (though it's not one of my favs by a long shot) but the story just feels really detached, the characters like they are all anime rejects, and I'm still just waiting for that 'flip switch' moment. Will have to return to the game at some point, but I've been enjoying the X Remaster a heck of a lot more.

You all meant to say "switch flipped" right? XD

Idk guys, I've had that feeling with every FF I've ever played. I tend not to feel into the story until "large plot twist" or "things are looking bad" moment (VII - Temple of the Ancients, VIII - end of disc 3, IX - the four mirrors, X - Zanarkand, XII - didn't really come (Archadia maybe?), XIII - Oerba). This is why it always takes me a second playthrough to really let an FF story sink in. In Type-0 this is actually required, so fair warning.

For what it's worth, I really enjoyed Type-0's story. Eventually (like every other FF :P)

This issue is exactly why I'm having such a problem with Type-O, because personally, that switch moment occurs a heck of a lot quicker for me on my most memorable FF games. The opening moments of VI, VII and a little into VIII drew me immediately into both the world, characters and story. So I am already breathing the world before any 'oh shit' moments occur, which just makes those moments even more sublime to experience.

Yet this event is just not happening during my playthrough of Type-O. I'm not feeling the world, set-up - and especially - the characters. It all just feels really disjointed. I had the same problem with XIII, but Type-O seems to be suffering more than that because I at least persevered with XIII until it finally began to get enjoyable. The fun gameplay is just not enough on it's own - it never has been for me in terms of why I love FF.

I don't know, I will definitely give it another go after the X HD Remaster, but I am just not feeling it and that spark is taking too long to occur.

i liked the setting/world, but i think it suffers a bit from having so many characters that they don't get as many moments to build character. class zero all have a broad personality (though you then get a male and female character with roughly the same sort of trait [jack and cinque are the ditzy ones, sice and nine are the rough ones, trey and queen are the brainy ones]), but they aren't really explored beyond that and thus end up feeling a bit one note. i kind of wonder if they didn't leave some of that character building to extra materials like the novels and comics.

We have another Type-0 thread somewhere because I posted about my progress in it while I was playing. I don't know why I'm only realising this now.

TY. Also I've just re-read my last post here and I meant to say "end of disc 2" not "end of disc 3" when I was talking about FFVIII.

I beat this last night. Definitely had fun the whole way through. I thought I had a halfway decent idea of what was going on in the story till that last chapter, though. Totally lost. Everyone just starts talking about Rursuses or whatever and I'm thinking "what ARE you talking about? How do you all know this about them already?"
And why/how did Cid become the judge guy? And that's not the same thing as becoming Agito? What does that mean exactly? Still kinda fuzzy on the concept of l'Cie in this game. I get that each crystal has one, and they are immortal and can remember the dead. But the times they act and the times that they don't are...seemingly random. Why did the Vermilion crystal sick Rem against Machina? And even if Rem couldn't tell who he was because of the mask, why did he fight back without revealing himself? Assuming there's a reason besides him being a massive tool.

So...there's some of the questions swirling in my head, I'll definitely have to play through again. Maybe I'll just do a New Game + on Easy so I can fly through it. The ending
...kind of a downer. And annoying that only then did the characters start to have really discernible personalities, but it was still well done. Graphically and all.

I didn't keep up with the Carla and Emina stuff very well, so I don't know if I can finish those even in a second playthrough. In any case, though, it was still quite fun. I echo the Machina hatred, but who are people's favorite characters? I'm partial to Queen, myself.
And, gameplay-wise, I find I like mostly the girls, haha. They all have the coolest weapons and/or moves. Queen's Divine Judgement is awesome, Seven's Ivy-from-Soul-Calibur sword is a lot of fun, Sice's moves are pretty badass, Cater single-handedly beat
Gilgamesh
both times. I also like King, good ranged character and his Endless Waltz move is a lot of fun and also a Gundam Wing reference. Rem's Rikku daggers are nice too, and very fast
for a terminally ill person
.

I feel like the game wants me to like Cinque way more than I actually do, and King's kind of annoying outside of combat. I like Trey in cutscenes. Others like Deuce and Eight aren't hugely memorable. But as I've said before, the amount of gameplay variety amongst the cast is impressive and a lot of fun. Although trying to keep them all equipped is an overwhelming task with all the accessories I'm swimming in.

Oh, and that Alexander cutscene? Unbelievable. Alexander just lends himself to incredibly epic cutscenes, I guess

Yeah you really need to fly through the game twice, I get that now (still haven't finished my second playthrough though XD), but cutscenes unlock in the wingardium librariosa or whatever it's called after finishing your first and they explain what happens at the end a bit more (which is a great great flaw of this game I think, had it been told better it would have impacted me so much more). Not that I didn't react, I certainly did. I enjoyed it.

I think I liked Sice? I'd have to start the game up again to remember who my favourites were. I know that I really liked Trey too, and I found Rem useful in combat and hated Machina. Jack was fun to use in the battle arena but I found him pretty useless in actual combat (being controlled anyway), cripplingly slow.

Second playthrough is for sure worth it for the extra missions and scenes.

Jack was crazy useful for me. Yeah, he has to move exclusively by dash, dash, dash but he still kills everything when he gets there.

He is probably the person I played with the least behind even Cinque due to that unbearable movement speed.

So there there are simply new cutscenes in that book after beating the game? Cutscenes that didn't actually play?

i told y'all you needed to play it twice

there are a few cutscenes which are just added to the book only (which should be indicated with some text like 'bonus, extra'). others do play during the game, but you have to choose different options at certain points like choosing to do a different method for missions. the screen will go red and give you two options (like that one that appears in the last mission on normal playthroughs), one sends you on the same mission as the first playthrough, and the second a new 'crimson' mission.

I knew I had to play it twice, but I wasn't sure if the new stuff would just happen or if I had to do something different. Thank you :monster:

Certain missions (main story) give you new options on a second playthrough (the first one I think is chapter 2 or 3, and the option is "Take the back way") at the start of the mission. They're completely new and have new cutscenes to go with them that explain more of the story. Well, they make the story actually make sense.

The patch is a big improvement, they have added camera sensitivity and got rid of that bloody motion blur. I'm only on Chapter 3 at the moment but with a music festival tomorrow to Monday, E3 and Havensward I don't know when I'm going to get the time to play this -_- I really want to just for the story, it's meant to be brilliant.
