Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster [PS3/PS4/Vita]

The lip sync is shockingly bad, but it's no worse than the original. It's the same as Kingdom Hearts, it's just more noticeable now because of a combination of factors: there has been really good lip syncing since then, and it's a graphically superior version.

Honestly I think this version is well worth it. I'm kind of in love with it. And I don't hate some of the music as much as I thought I did. That new boss theme can go fuck itself though, that's probably the only one I can't stand. I miss my DUN D-DUN D-D-D-DUN DUN DUN D-DUN D-D-D-DUN DUN etc. Seymour Omnis theme is way cooler, but the first minute is shit (so was the original though, kinda lacked the bass). I prolonged the battle to sit and listen to it :D.

So anyway BIG NEWS EVERYONE I maxed out the sphere grid completely for everyone and got the perfect sphere master trophy. I also beat nemesis. I'm really glad to be seeing the back of the monster arena tbh I was there for something like a solid 4 days.

And to the surprise of no one, Luck was the worst. Luck itself was pants, greater sphere is a cakewalk. But I fucking hated farming earth eater from the very first battle with it so having to do that more than 217 times (because when it dropped dark matter I wanted to break my controller) almost killed me.

I completely remodelled the grid, which allowed room for more HP spheres. All characters have 99,999HP which is cool and this is the first time I've done it. They've all got max everything except accuracy, which they don't need. I'm up to Dark Yojimbo, who is a piece of piss to beat which is nice because I've managed to farm a few Ribbon armours from him. Dark Bahamut was a pain in the ass.

I'm going to take screenshots or make a video or something because I'm so damn proud of this sphere grid I could cry :D. My save file is at 110 hours-ish, but that counts time I've left the game running to go do other stuff. I've done most of the farming on my Vita and switching between the two systems breaks up the monotony a bit.

Should have the platinum by tonight if I beat the rest of the dark aeons + penance then complete the game.

I've just beaten Sin (left, right, head) and headed in. But I'm not ready to get Seymour just yet, as there's loads of other stuff to do. I also got Anima, the Magus Sisters and kicked Belgemine's arse with all her aeons. I haven't sent her yet though, because there are a lot of useful items you can get from winning the aeon battles. Also starting getting the Celestial Weapons.

Seriously: well done. :monster:

Where do you start in leveling up? Davos pointed out this:
Davos said:
Alternately, there is a way to quickly and easily gain levels with the monster arena, but it requires you to have unlocked the Don Tonberry boss for the sunken cavern where you find Yojimbo, as well as Overdrive->AP weapons.

Is that the fastest way? Because I give it a quick try (3 people with overdrive>AP weapons, 'comrade' overtime mode on two of them etc) and my characters only gained about a 15 levels per battle.

Godot
The fastest method is like so:

-3 characters with weapons with (Overdrive->AP) and (Triple Overdrive) and (Triple AP)
-(Auto-Phoenix) is also helpful
-Unlock Don Tonberry

From there, you use those characters to enter a battle with Don Tonberry. When attacked, Don Tonberry uses a unique counterattack, Karma, which deals damage based on the total number of fiends the attacker has killed. The more kills, the more damage.

Comrade increases a character's Overdrive when their ally is damaged; it does NOT increase it more based on how much damage the ally receives, but rather how much damage the ally receives compared to their total HP (it is percentage based). The lower their HP and the higher the damage, the more meter is gained.

Typically, you will want to use Auron/Wakka/whoever has the most kills within your group, plus two characters you want to level up. At first, your gains won't be quite as high as they would be when you start optimizing the Sphere Grid (deleting Rikku's section, for example, has her go back to her starting HP of ~300). All the same, you should very easily be able to gain 99 levels with this method, assuming that your chosen attacker has killed a lot of fiends. Then you can simply escape the battle with Don Tonberry if you're unable to kill it.

The other popular method uses Cactuar King, but follows the same principles.

If you gained 15 levels using ONLY Overdrive->AP, consider that that exp will be effectively nonupled with the addition of Triple AP and Triple Overdrive (hextupled with Double of one and quadrupled with Double of both), coming out to ~135 levels at once, with the cap of 99 being more than reached.

OK so what I did was caught most of the monsters first, because the unlocks let you give auto-phoenix to some armours.

You want overdrive-AP on a weapon and I just went with double AP because again, it's easy to customise it with the items you get from the monster arena, and those items aren't used for anything else that's too useful.

Like Omega said, the triple AP/ Triple overdrive stacks (so you'd get x9 AP) but honestly, the time it takes to farm the stuff for that isn't worth it. I just did it for every character with overdrive-AP and double AP on their weapon. And I didn't really adhere to the normal strategy much either, I just had all 3 with comrade and all 3 attacking (when it was Tidus, Wakka and Auron, since they had a lot of kills) and that way they all get a shitload of AP rather than concentrating on one character. But characters like Yuna for example, you want the two with the most kills to attack and just skip her turn (for me that was Tidus and Wakka).

I usually got about 41 levels per battle, sometimes more. Really depends on pre-emptive/ambush etc. And both Tidus and Wakka had auto-phoenix and eventually they both had auto haste aswell. Auto haste lets you get something like twice as many hits in.

Tbh I don't like doing it, I find it super tedious to watch the karma animation over and over again. But I did that to get to a certain level (like so their attacks were hitting almost 99,999 with celestials, only takes about 110ish strength with most average enemies - talking about Tidus, Wakka and Auron only) and then instead of moving everyone around the grid that's when I started farming strength spheres, moved all the characters to the same point and started working my way round the grid, filling every node.

Those with double AP celestials kind of were the vanguards of the new grid because they gained levels faster while farming so the actual Don Tonberry battles you do after that point are far less. The problem comes when you have a character who hasn't moved at all or hasn't been used, then it's a pain in the hoop. However, for some of the monsters you have to farm for certain spheres, it's better to have a really weak character and have the monster go for them so it immediately fills the other's overdrive gauges.

tl;dr, focus on 2 or 3 characters and have one character (for me it was wakka) move round the grid and fill it with nodes/ clear bad nodes before you start doing it with everyone. You can get kind of stuck if you don't have a weak character to fill their overdrives with the combat mode. There are other ways to fill them easily (like using victor) but with earth eater the quickest way is to use multiple overdrives and victor only fills it when you win a battle, so it's kind of useless other than in specific situations.

Also, don't be put off by the task, it's very easy (and kind of relaxing). Like it takes half an hour - 45 minutes to farm all the defence spheres you need, and its the same for the rest. Easy peasy. And you won't have a problem with gil because they drop weapons and armour that are worth a shit load, just make sure you sell stuff when your inventory is full.

It's even easy to farm luck spheres. Takes slightly longer but it's not hard. What is soul destroying is the fortune spheres. Earth eater is the hardest to farm for any kind of sphere and it only gives you two. And you need 7 times the amount. I am never doing that again. It takes the same amount of time in total to get the number of fortune spheres you need as it does to collect every other kind of sphere for the board.

EDIT: So the voice acting in this eternal calm thing is pretty amazing? Was this recorded in English when it was originally released? Ugh so good. Wakka sounds a bit off though. Also it has the original Besaid background music rather than the remastered version. Kinda cool actually.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game. I've made saves at various points if I want to dive back in. I'm going to slowly take my time through X-2 rather than binging like I did with X. My study timetable begins tomorrow :D.

The English dub of Eternal Calm was released with some other Square PS2 game back in the days, I believe.

Haven't played the game for days, I'm still before Djose.

So apparently Brother is playable in this game (FFX-2), and apparently he attacks enemies with his butt.

And apparently you can give him the ability "Mug".

Which apparently means he can steal items with his butt.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWW.....

WAKKA IS BENDER
Funny whenever hardcore fans don't know something that the average player (seems) to have known for the longest time.

If Wakka-Bender existed as a downloadable voice pack, I'd buy FFX Remastered.

Because I don't pay attention to the names of voice actors. I give them a cursory look once when the credits roll, salute the ones I like, then promptly forget them.

Carlie throws about names of over 1 trillion bajillion VA's when we're on call and i am like... just names, names of people. The only ones I'm familiar with are the ones that people discuss. Like Mark Meer or Jennifer Hale. And Rachel Robinson (Fang), but I only know hers because I once commented on one of her Facebook posts and she sent me a PM apologising because she had to delete my comment. Also she's super nice <3

tl;dr, I don't pay attention. It's rare that I know an actor's name either.

So I finally have been able to start playing this game! It's so beautiful I could cry. Happy nostalgic tears. It's so stunning in HD, too. I don't care if the character models and world map are still a bit outdated by PS3 standards.

Not to mention the sphere grid. I chose the expert grid and I am in love. Is it just me or is there a lot more freedom than before? Right at the beginning I can chose to take my characters in any direction I want! I swear we couldn't do that before. Everything was locked and you were stuck on a path, right? Or has it been so long that I've forgotten and now I'm imagining things? Either way, I'm pretty stoked about it. I'm actually sitting and planning my sphere grid routes to optimize my characters, trying to decide who I want to learn why before I pick a path and send them down it.

There's also something plot related that I picked up on that I'm not sure if I never picked up on it before or if it has been so long since I last played that I don't remember it. In the very beginning when you are running through Zanarkand toward the Blitzball dome, there are a couple of people who are sick. I remember one of the people, but not the other. Were they sick because Sin was coming? Either it was the toxin or something just generally funky going on with the dream?

I'm also happy the little boy in Kilika still wants to be a blitzball and not a blitzball player. :monster:

This is a slight exaggeration. :monster: People should read up on VA's more, they don't get enough recognition for their work and your favorite VA's might be in other stuff you watch and/or play and you're not even aware of it.

Well...that's exactly what the expert sphere grid is? Your PS2 version didn't have that, did it?

Yeah I noticed that over the weekend, I thought someone here said they retranslated that?
