Final Fantasy XV (was Versus XIII)

I really hate all this marketing. It starts to make me sick of the game before it even comes out. Just give me the game and let me discover it for myself.

Edge got a preview build (up to the final boss but apparently lacking the ending or thereabouts) and there's currently an online shitstorm because
the game gets linear toward the end
, but I don't see that as a bad thing at all.

I've been reading the thread on neogaf. People can be so fickle. Positive impressions come in and everyone gets hyped, then one not-so-good thing gets mentioned and everyone falls into PREORDER CANCELED mode. :monster:

People are not just fickle. People are stupid. I mean, the masses are just... see Brexit and Trump for relevant examples. :monster:

I don't recall any game
not being linear at the end, be it in the form of a long end sequence / gameplay, an ending cutscene, or what have you. There's still a story to finish. Honestly I prefer a good linear game over a forced 'open' game any day. Give me a more linear Skyrim for example. GIEF

ATR summary

Some bits:

FF15 Judgement Disc: FF15 free demo released on 11/11 (they mentioned something about Japan only though??? it might only be on the JP store or just the japanese version, I'm not sure) - confirmed to be Japan only

This demo will be a part of the actual game that has gone gold, covering from the opening to the middle of chapter 1. Tabata expects it to take 1~1.5 hours to play through.

The demo will be locked on easy mode as it is aimed for newcomers or people on the fence about FF15. There will be limits on level, ability points, and some areas of the map. But otherwise it will be very close to the final game.

They confirmed that the demo will be only for Japan. :( And thus, there won't be anything you can carry over into the main game because that'll be 'unfair'. There'll be a small video at the end of the demo that gives you an idea of what comes after the demo.

They're aiming to release a PS4 pro patch around December as well. They're aiming to bump fps up to 60 if you play it on a 2K TV (take the extra power of pro that isn't being used to fuel 4K and put it into fps basically), but at least 40~50fps should be within reason. They haven't mentioned anything about fps with 4K.

60fps for FFXV would be great even though I won't be able to play that D:

I agree with you on both counts. The reason this is getting attention it shouldn't is because of what you might call
XIII syndrome. I'm convinced that people are hypersensitive to the word "linear" now because of that. Tbh I'm pretty certain all of my favourite games are pretty linear. Aside from Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

Truth be told, most main entries in Final Fantasy have been pretty linear... just with open pockets and that classic "open world" thing just before the last dungeon.

^That's pretty true. They've never been open world like Skyrim for example. I honestly feel there's nothing to worry about with some talk of linearity in parts of XV.

And Skyrim could've done with a lot less nonlinearity if you ask me.

And, you know, better graphics, decent voice actors, better animations, better balancing, human-looking faces, :monster:

I tried to get my Senior Prom DJ to play 'Eyes on Me' back in High School.

He never heard the song, the mainstream JERK he was...

So I don't know who else has downloaded the Japanese only demo... *cough*.

Some interesting things. Car is able to be driven with I'd think the majority of the radio stations.

You can travel all the way back to Insomnia's gate if you want. Nothing interesting happens tho. There is a latter leading to the sewers right outside it. Interesting to see what that is once we get the full game.
Iron Giants... screw them, don't drive in the dark.

It's a great hold over until the game comes out. I'm pretty certain it's a version of the final build of the game. Of course we only have 18 days until it releases so it's not really necessary to download it.

God, I still get chills every time I hear that Apocalypsis Noctis track.

Good trailer. Not sure what sets it apart from the others, but something about it increased my hype meter.

Love the shots at the end of Noctis and co back at Insomnia, with Noctis looking all Regis-ified and the rest in Kingsglaive uniforms. The destroyed throne room is also a wonderful image.

That scene of Luna and Ardyn right before he whomps her in the face is very intriguing. Is she trying to heal him or what?

Huh yeah, that trailer gave me some chills too. :closedmonster: I didn't think that was possible since I've seen so many trailers already, but... a few new scenes were slipped in there. Nice.
I second Lith's thoughts, and wanna add about the last scene... is that perhaps Noctis sitting there with the ring?
Looks like a still figure slouched over, the ring glows, and causes a shockwave/explosion? What if Noctis dies at the end :closedmonster:

People playing this demo are pulling off some incredible fights with the "Advent Children in real time" feel that Squre-Enix has been aiming at for a decade.
