Having beaten this at a friends house, I felt like all I did was button mash square and circle with lots of healing thrown in.

On land traversal, I'd recommend the Stamina Badge (DLC infinite run/hang Stamina) and Robe of Lords (fast MP recharge).

I'm not surprised there's so much physical land to walk on, their world-generating engine is pretty advanced.

Still, you know you're in a weird place when the SUN moves from West to East in a split second!

If you think that's weird, try living near the North Pole where the Sun spins in a wobbly circle!

So guys... recommended level for end game?

I beat Ravus at lvl 39 (Noct) /36/34/?? or something, and I must have used like 5 Megalixirs, 30 Hi-Potions and 10 Hi-Elixirs... and it took me two Armigers and Blizzaras. I had a feeling I was underleveled, but hey, everything seemed to be going well that far, so. Did beat him without too much hassle. Buuut now I'm at Hammerhead in World of Ruin and I think I should level before I finish the game. Internetz say recommended level is about 45... and I don't think I've learned all the neato tricks for battles yet so I should be decently leveled. Any recommendations? For levels, but also for easy and fun quests? (I just discovered Umbra )

I was the same level as you, and honestly, Ravus was the hardest fight in the main storyline for me. I didn't do any real grinding after that point, and steamrolled the rest of the game, so you should be okay.

Yeah I'd also say I found Ravus the most challenging of the main story fights. I'm not convinced levels make too much of a difference in this game.

I found none of the fights challenging to be honest. As long as you have potions and phoenix downs, the game gives you tons of opportunities to not die. I think that at least getting your maximum HP to 0 should lead to an immediate game over instead of "Noctis just kinda kneels down and you get a chance to open the menu and just revive yourself with a phoenix down".

Might have to impose restrictions on myself should I play through the game again at some point.

Yes I know there's a dungeon where items are prohibited.

Wait you want the party leader's death to be game over? Isn't that one of the things we all disliked about XIII's battle system? I also hated it in Persona 3. I've got these 2 or 3 other people standing there, perfectly able to heal me and they're just like "welp, he's/she's gone...now we have no idea what to do."

I'm kinda for an auto lose if Noct's health hits 0 as well. Much as I enjoy the combat in this game, it is definitely to easy. I've only had a game over screen twice. Once was due to a glitch, and once was on purpose because I wanted to start the Ravus fight over.

The way its set up now, as long as you maintain a halfway decent supply of curatives the game is damn near unlosable.

Another idea could be putting a cool down on item use, so you have to pick and choose when to pop a potion or phoenix down more carefully.

I agree with this to a degree. Maybe the system would be better and a little less easy if you could only phoenix down Noctis if another party member was up (i.e. have them do it).

In general I find it strange that all phoenix downs seem to be self-use. Kinda defeats the idea that they're down for the count.

First of all, in an action RPG where I only control that one character, yes I am okay with that.

Secondly, my point is also that the "dead" character can use a phoenix down on themselves.

You can literally still revive the party when they're *all* at zero max HP. The only way to lose is to simply not have a phoenix down at hand anymore.

I have more awesome shit than I could have ever imagined to share in this post. Major developments on the exploration front, guys -- including that Holy Grail I spoke of previously. :monster:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CN10waJ793U

My curiosity is now satisfied about Shiva's corpse in the Ghorovas Rift. It's not solid, and you can fully see the position her model was placed in. She's lying prone with a hill added in by the developers that -- when the game is played normally -- obscures everything but her head and right hand.

As awesome as finally having this was, following a similar glitch, the player who uploaded the above video actually took things a step further, bless them, and recorded walking all the way from

This seems to indicate that the field data for the city that should be there -- and, thus, probably
Tenebrae
and
Insomnia
as well -- doesn't load until its respective chapter has been reached.

It doesn't appear that the main explorable areas of the world remain loaded and explorable at these times, though. How do we know? Because we finally have videos (a lot of them!) of people exploring
Insomnia -- while flying no less! Even during the day!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHy6-3HUg3Y
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5GGxzxGEvs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioxffVIEgWU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rt23TwPhL8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HGyLg9DhcA

Interesting things in that fifth video:
4:45 - Bevelle billboard
5:10 - Vivi billboard
5:25 - Bank of Spira sign
19:30 - A unique, interesting little section of the city with a sushi place and a karaoke lounge

There's also a video exploring what's outside the city (a lot of nothingness):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2oOwdrpxyI

YouTuber Hesplo (the first player known to have gotten out of bounds in Insomnia; see here if you need a reminder) has also found a way to do so while on foot in the first stage of the final battle:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMtt7DPNKhU

Hard to believe, but the awesome doesn't end here --

20-year-old Noctis and young bros taking on Ifrit and Ardyn (also: chocobos in Insomnia!):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxvludZQlKw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQ8EC5jZkWs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjHgcjL72c4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVAiVhF9cas

This next video sort of combines everything glitchy/exploity that's Insomnia-related (20-year-old Noctis, chocobos in Insomnia, and getting outside the ordinary boundaries of the city):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AozSSZpZIvE

You'll also notice that the player discovered the edge of what actually has collision detection in Insomnia. While the developers took some shortcuts with the outskirts of the city, the overall area is insanely vast, and all the assets we see are where they are because an artist placed them there.

Even with the shortcuts, there is still an enormous central area of the city (as well as large buildings on the outskirts) that are fully rendered and highly detailed. And I love that river we see in these videos.

What an absolutely gorgeous game city.

I don't know how there's even more awesome stuff to share, but there is. The same player who did the craziness of those last few videos also managed to skip the cutscene where Talcott picks you up in the World of Ruin and properly explore it (instructions on doing this and getting the young crew are in the description of this first video):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIrQVhaPRs0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpFQXED4DLQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x3fgsQHe-w

Apparently almost no locations outside of Galdin Quay and Hammerhead will load in the World of Ruin (you'll notice the Coernix Station outpost was flat and empty in that third video), including Lestallum. In the third video, the city does eventually load at the end, but before that, the huge ravine the bros fall into is where the city should be. It only ends up showing up at all because the game slowly starts reverting Eos to its pre-World of Ruin status as the player is on their way there. It's odd to see.

[EDIT 10 hours later: Here's another tutorial video on how to go outside the barriers in Insomnia, as well as another Insomnia exploration video and another World of Ruin exploration (this time confirming that Altissia doesn't load either) --

Watching the videos now.
The scale of Insomnia really drives home how small the Lucis continent actually feels. The city would essentially take up the entire open world! :wacky:

Although in the end you can tell it was only meant to be a very detailed background. Nothing that screams potential cut content like the Cartanica videos.

Final Fantasy XV won two awards from GAMEINFORMER 2016 RPG of the Year Awards

Best Cast
Final Fantasy XV has some great individual characters, but the way everyone comes together as an ensemble is the heart of this game. The friendship binding the four main characters, along with the implied ties connecting Noctis to Regis and Luna, are more interesting than the actual events of the main narrative. We can’t say much about the villain without spoiling some key moments, but the adversarial build-up also keeps you invested. The relationships in Final Fantasy XV develop slowly but surely, so you may have trouble putting the game down and leaving your friends behind.
Best Sidekick (Ignis)
Since the heroes of Final Fantasy XV work so well together, picking one sidekick as the best is tricky. Is it Gladiolus, who is always there to keep Noctis out of harm’s way? Is it Ignis, who drives Noctis around and makes him delicious food? Or is it Promto who…uh…hm…well, it isn’t Prompto. Ultimately, Ignis earns the title of Best Sidekick through the multifaceted ways he helps the group and the sacrifices he makes to ensure their journey is successful.
