Final Fantasy XV (was Versus XIII)

I'm not trying to bend myself out of shape over anything. This genuinely does look like a good crossover event. I was merely expressing my thoughts on the fact that we're getting all of this extra content except for the things most players really want.

Maybe this is a test of somewhat of how well this goes and Square's possibly in secret talks with Ubisoft in creating an Assassins Creed/Final Fantasy Crossover franchise after the release of Assassins Creed Origins in less than two months, the similiar way they did with Disney to create the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

Just my theory and I'm most likely wrong, but one can never tell outside of any gaming companies and what's on their minds.

People always get so bent out of shape about this stuff and I don't understand why. I remember people throwing conniptions that Noel had N7 and Assassin's Armor in XIII-2. It's no skin off my nose, and this thing in particular is free, so who cares?

I'm having trouble sleeping and in a pretty bad mood lately. Plus I have some major problems with the game, and feel like they could have spent their development time doing something MUCH more productive than some tie-in with a franchise it has little to nothing in common with. It being free just makes it more confusing why they would want to do this.
Also, they're putting out so many random, weird things related to this game, it feels like they're desperate to try and spread the brand. "You WILL like this game! Please! See! We got the Regalia in some racing game! You guys like racing games! Oh, you guys like assassins creed? Hey we got some of that too! Mobiles a big thing... Why don't we remake the full game on mobile! Please love this game guys!"
I feel like they're focusing their attention in the exact opposite direction than they should be. Instead of improving the game, they're trying to make it better by association to other properties.

This doesn't strike me as something they would expect people who didn't already buy FFXV to buy it for. This just seems like something they're having fun with, and that is what games are for, after all. "Improving the game" likely wouldn't garner all that much praise or sales, people would just be telling them to move on, all while requiring a lot more developmental resources. Like the XIII series. This just seems like random fun for people who already like the game to me.

This collaboration is just both companies showing admiration to each other's work, three years ago both dev teams (or members of the teams) had an informal meeting at Tokyo Game Show.

I understand the frustration and problems some of you might have with the current announcements of stuff no one asked for and your worries about this possibly taking away resources from the "fixes", I will not argue againts your sentiments but I will give a possible answer as to why all of this "unnecesary" stuff is happening:

Yesterday we got a reconfirmation that XV won't get a sequel, via Polygon having an interview with Tabata and he said something interesting during that interview:
Hajime Tabata said:
If you do that full sequel model of expanding on an IP or a series, it’s good in certain ways, the negative of that is there’s a very large open period where you’re not releasing anything. In that period, you get people to move away, and their attachment to the franchise dissipates a little bit
In simple terms, they want FFXV to stay relevant for as long as they can.
I'm very sure Tabata and team are aware that delivering any of the "big fixes" (story and gameplay) fans want will take a lot of time and very surely know that this time gaps can kill fans interest/attention, making this "big fixes" probably not worth investing if they don't have enough people still playing the game. Making all this distractions (Episode DLCs, free updates, Collaborations, other extra Universe material, etc) is their means to keep people talking about FFXV.

I don't know how much resources this Assasin's Creed x FFXV collaboration might have cost but, if they can do all this stuff while potentially (we have no confirmation at the moment) developing any of the fixes promised in the last survey then one of the conclusions I can arrive is that we perhaps are downplaying how much resources Bussiness Division 2 have at their disposal, I am not saying they have tons of gold saved on their pockets to spend, I am just saying they likely have just enough to deliver everything/most of the stuff they have on their schedule.

That's my perspective on the matter.

Alternatively, this could another reason (not mine), via: http://www.mognetcentral.com/threads/final-fantasy-xv-general-news-thread.3288/page-593#post-55365
I definitely get the sense that BD2 is using the FFXV Universe as an alternative long-term marketing scheme, yeah.

They've used the content-as-marketing tactic since last year, when they announced a free anime mini-series and a full-length CG movie intended to release prior to the game and keep the game on our minds. Even the Omen trailer, as an "alternate universe" scenario, played that same sort of role. And then, once the game released, they added festivals, costumes, new mechanics, and timed hunts on a regular basis to keep our attention while they developed the DLC episodes.

As such, collaborations and Pocket Editions and Ultra PC editions are entirely in-line with their existing strategy -- take most of the money you'd spend on traditional advertisements and redirect it into content that the gaming media will report on at minimal cost, fans will talk about at practically no cost (or even negative cost in the case of content which must be purchased separately), and sponsors will pay you for.

And, on top of that, I get the impression that some of the expansions are excuses to do R&D on Luminous, as well, what with additions like off-road driving, an in-game camera mode, parkour, multiplayer, higher-quality PC assets and effects, and a ridiculously intricate character creator.

So it might not even make sense to think of the additions as something they have just enough extra resources to deliver. It's more of a case of repurposing resources which would have otherwise been written off as advertising or R&D expenses so they can be used to create new content that can simultaneously serve those functions.

Or is what @Ramza Beoulve said, this just random fun :monster:

This collaboration is just another way to have fun in the game, while also promoting Origins at the same time. So Square has people renewing their interest in XV while Ubisoft gets promotion for Origins.

That pretty much explains everything, and yeah, it's probably best XV doesn't get a sequel and I'm okay with that. Geez, the original Anime of Sailor Moon(and it's first English Dub-done by DIC and not VIZ) ended a long time ago and I still love it and talk about it.

And after ten years of waiting for said game when it was under another title, why would anyone want a sequel of this game?

Edit: Link to youtube new trailer of "Final Fantasy XV: Assassins Festival"....

https://youtu.be/HNFon9WM_D0

You'd think they'd stop with FFXV by now and move on to their other projects. This is in the short expanse of time. Even FFVII never got this much until eight years after release.

What the actual fuck is going on with this game?

Blame the guys who are doing all of this to the said game, let alone the FFXV and the Assassins Creed Universes.

This is the weirdest crossover ever...

I don't know about you, but this is a lot less weird than the upcoming Mario Switch game where he takes the form of a freakin' T-Rex!

As you may or may not be aware, I've been working since last month to turn our FFXV chapter-by-chapter lore exposition and development archive into a proper "complete" script. I'm now in the home stretch, with the mandatory segments and most of the sidequests already done. What's left essentially boils down to a few quests each from Sania, Coctura, Dave, Wiz and Randolph.

"How can I help?" you ask. How kind of you!

What you can do to plug some holes in what I've already compiled is acquire screenshots or a video (or an accurate transcription down to the punctuation) of any of the following:

—The menu description for the Thermal Suit key item

—Speaking to Vyv several times right after beginning the "Of Gods and Kings" quest to get the two or three different things he will say specific to the time between beginning this quest and completing it

—Choosing "Allude to a common enemy," then the "Leave her hanging" option when meeting with Claustra in Chapter 9

—The dialogue when Noctis turns down these four tours with his buds: "Rise and Shine and Run"; "The Chopping Block"; "Strike A Pose!"; "Up Close and Personal"

—The on-screen designations for an old man and his adult grandson on the train platform (near the bench with the Cosmogony book) in Tenebrae during Chapter 12 who have the following exchange:

Let me go find you something to eat.
No, it's fine. Don't worry about me. How could this happen?
Took the words right out of my mouth.
[The elderly man sighs]
You okay, Grandpa? They said we'll be leaving soon. Hang in there.
Don't worry: I'll be fine as long as they get me back to Accordo.

In the only video I've ever seen with this exchange, the YouTuber didn't have speaker names turned on, so I don't know what their in-game designations are.

This one should be a particularly easy gap to fill since a certain Chapter Select feature is being added in a few days. :awesome:
---

If you do choose to help, thank you. The rest of what I intend to add should be up before the weekend is out.

[EDIT: Dave's quests are now done.]
[EDIT 2: Sania's as well.]
[EDIT 3: Already had Coctura done, and didn't realize it.]
[EDIT 4: All done now.]

Not sure if it's been put here, and cba to go back and check, but apparently Ardyn's backstory won the FFXV survey. It's news to me, so insert surprised reaction here.

Can't say I'm not disappointed. Ardyn was a good villain and Darin de Paul's voice acting is of course amazing, but I thought the backstory we received was enough; just given way late in the game.

Of course, this is no guarantee that we'll receive any DLC/story patch content with him...

Aaaaaand back up, I just read that additional Luna content came in 2nd place. :joy:

EDIT:

Also, good news for those that care: apparently we'll be seeing a certain demonslayer in the Comrades Multiplayer DLC...

Okay, so I tried to check out the FFXV Pocket edition...managed only about 15 seconds of it and stopped it.

It's one of the most creepiest things I've ever seen. It's like a failed 3D version of Kingdom Hearts Unchained/Union X that's trying to be like the remakes of FF III and FF IV for DS and 3DS.

Kinda weird that we voted for Ardyn's story as DLC but they aren't going to make it DLC...

Probaby because fan votes made by fans don't count as much as actual gaming votes.

A bit off topic, people voted for Danny DeVito to voice Pikachu in the Great Detective Pikachu 3DS game that only now very obviously exclusive to Japan, but he denied the role. Then again, the guy didn't even know what Pokemon is.

Since they left the ending open to interpretation anyway, I just headcannoned that they had a happy ending. As much as I love a good tragedy, I'm a sucker for happy endings.

I'm not much of a tragedy fan, but I love happy endings as much as anyone else. Open endings, certain ones, though, leave me in a mental cliff-hanger and going nuts.

Still, FFXV wasn't as much as tragic as I predicted, but still sad enough. The ending of FFXV was sad, but at the same time, understandable and
The world was saved and so was the rest of humanity, at least.

Even without all the thematic elements pointing to
their survival, there was one really obvious point in their favor anyway: they left their other camping gear next to their chairs when they headed into Insomnia. In the shot of the chairs after the sun returns, the other gear has been removed. Who else would have taken it?
