Forspoken is not likely to impinge upon FF16. And it can also still be moved since, as a new IP, it doesn't really have expectations set.

I think this is wishfull thinking.
Forspoken is a triple A game, so it will be treated as such. They won't allow another big game to overshadow it.
And it already had multiple trailers, a delay, and a release date. So delaying it AGAIN, and changing the foccus to another game that hasn't even had a release date announced yet(when Forspoken already had two), wouldn't make sense.

The same logic you are making about Forspoken applies even more to FF, given its pedigree and buzz. And the fact that SE, at the end of the day, knows where its bread is buttered.

And if FF16 comes out with a date by June that's during the holidays, the resulting hype will overshadow whatever work Forspoken has done over the two years or so of reveals and trailers and yadda yadda.

There is also the possibility that they would feel the gap between October and December is enough time for the former to have its time out in the sun.

Ok, but what "soon" to Square-Enix really means?

Depends on which team we speak of. Not everyone is Nomura and Creative Business Unit 1.

Recall having to delay 14 by a few weeks to finish the polishing. Given that its largely the same team, I imagine its a few weeks more with this. So June instead of May or April. Maybe July, breaking Spring promise for more info but keeping promise for this year.

But "soon" is about the trailer dropping, not the game releasing. So only S-E's marketing department knows what "soon" means.

I would hazard a guess that "soon" means in the next month or so. We were told we'd see new stuff earlier and YoshiP put out a statement saying it had to be delayed, so it's already overdue.

I know it seems unlikely based on Square Enix precedent, but since he's talking about polish and debugging nearly being complete, I don't think it's unrealistic to expect it to release later this year. Would be pretty shocking, but in YoshiP we trust.

We should also recall Yoshi P has said he only wants to release the trailer when its close to the game itself releasing. Therefore soon may not mean the game is soon but if the trailer is soon, the game is not that far behind.

Watching what looked like boss (?) fights gave me bad memories of FF7R mid fight cutscenes. Hope they're at least skippeable here.

Ok, so I Don't really know how I feel about this trailer to be honest.

I mean on one hand the summons fighting like that and the focus on them is really cool! But on the other I have no idea what else was going on in that trailer and it's just left me not really understanding anything about this entry, I've never really felt that way about an FF game during the trailers so I don't know what to make of it, still a year away so I know more info will happen and further trailers but right now summons aside, I'm not really feeling it which is a really weird feeling to have for an FF game.
