Good things about DoC

My biggest problem with MGS4 was Meryl winding up married to fucking Johnny of all people. I mean, dude, he's the guy who constantly has the shits. Wtf?

BUT HE TOOK HIS MASK OFF AND IS ALL PRETTY, AND OH YEAH HE CAN SHOOT BETTER THAN AN ARMY OF SUPERSOLDIERS AND FIRE AN ANTI TANK RIFLE WITH ONE ARM. Meryl completely forgets Snake one minute then she's blubbering on him the next, then completely forgets him for the rest of the goddamn game, skips the relationship phase entirely, and marries Johnny of all people for no logical reason.

Johnny Sasaki, the joke character, gets the hot chick out of fucking nowhere. The guy who all but shits himself in every single game and only just barely makes it to a toilet or under a barrel every time.

I could accept him being useful because his lack of nanomachines to enhance him and suppress his emotions keeps him from suffering the negative consequences when the system goes down, but really what the hell was with his amazing feats of marksmanship and such that got mentioned?

I take it back, MGS4 was bullshit. Let's talk about DoC more, at least its bad qualities are funny. This is just depressing me.

I want to go back in time to MGS, before Raiden, before nanomachines did more than like locate you and stuff, when Snake was still young (comparatively) and guaranteed a crack at Meryl's crack if he resisted torture and saved her. The good old days when Liquid was still cool cause he was the real liquid and not yet another bullshit plot device enabled by nanomachines.

Well, I have no problems with Raiden, per se, but in MGS2 I always felt like he’d wandered into the wrong set. Like he was meant to be in an RPG rather than carrying one. He seemed as out of place as Vincent swigging a bottle of sake in Disney’s Hercules.

All this chatter is just making me remember a QI (!) fanfic I started, where Sephiroth, Big Boss and Seymour (from FFX) were guests... the first question was regarding infinite ammo... Big Boss got SO many penalties...

Back on topic, re: good things in DoC - the one part of the compilation where Sephiroth only gets a cameo.

Yeah, I loved how Shinra had this enormous cybernetic army complete with helicopters (for...an...underground...base?) shoehorned underneath Shinra HQ. What's great is how the writers weaved this deliciously into the original universe and didn't just pull it out of their rectum.

Atmosphere

If the dank, cardboard locales with zero prop interaction wasn't already a major turn-on, the repetitive one-track gameplay blew me away!

Well. The only few good things I liked about Dirge was all about the all new music it delivered as well as the storyline. I thought it was very flowing and smooth but the only thing that bothered me. Well, They never really introduced deepground all that much without any much background story. Just like how in Advent Children [Before Complete came out] they never really gave any backstory on Loz, Yazoo and Kadaj's appearance and where THEY came from. So. Yeah. I did love Those two things about DoC. I loved it as a game too as well!

Another thing about DoC. Does anyone else think that the gameplay was easy to understand, or did you find it confusing at first? I thought it was really easy.

The lack of background story for DeepGround in DoC, was because S-E planned to show it in a separate MMORPG. But it failed miserably and the Online game is not even active anymore.
