Improve Crisis Core Thread

I think even Lazard would have been a better antagonist than Genesis. It would have been an interesting story about Lazard actually trying to get back at Shinra specifically President Shinra for abandoning his mother.I could actually see Lazard gathering some rogue soldiers to come with him and team up with Wutain terrorists groups who want revenge for their country's humiliating defeat.Angeal and Genesis would be some of the SOLDIERS who would defect with Lazard.Angeal for more moral reasons and Genesis for more selfish reasons.

From the other thread. I really like this idea, you can still have Genesis sperging out with his literature interpretations, there'd just be more of a role for everyone to play now.

I can't remember cos I gave up on CC after the first Genesis battle.....but Elmyra wasn't in it at all was she? Even though she clearly knew all about Zack which is why she wants Cloud to back off.

She should have been included, and like Zee said, Aeris should have been made more of instead of an insipid pansy creature.

SE aren't interested in characters that aren't 'sexy' or 'cool' and thats partly why so many fans are disenfranchised because we have grown up but the game hasn't.

Yeah,it seems like Elmyra as always is ignored by the developers of the Compilation.I know she is a minor character but she was Aerith's foster mother for goodness sake.

It's probably just as well, they probably would have retconned her to have a mini skirt and a robot arm or some stupid shit

I would he happy that maybe there would be somewhere that Sephiroth kept some childhood items that were in connection to Gast.It would be fun if he had an old notebook when he was young and drew pictures of Gast in his free time. The notebook would also have some unflattering drawings of Hojo.:P

In addition to the notebook, he could have a journal he kept from his childhood that would serve as a window into what life was like growing up for him.

I agree about Elmyra. Was she even mentioned in the game?

On a similar note, I've mentioned before how we never got to see Mama Strife. It's frustrating that all we only got a text from Cloud about her cooking. >_> I seriously waited for Cloud in front of his house hoping to see a scene about that. Really, meeting her could have added to the tragedy of the whole Nibelheim razing.

I have always felt that the compilation needs to bring in Elmyra.

I mean, why the flip was she not in Advent Children? If one of the themes is Cloud's guilt over Aerith's death, don't you think her adoptive mother would be kind of important?

She gets a paragraph in Case of Tifa. :awesomonster:

Yeah,just one lousy paragraph.>_>

I mean really the writers couldn't even expand what life was like after Aerith's death.I mean for pete's sake they really seem to go to lengths to ignore her.

We don't get Tifa's dad or Zangan either.

^Yes. Generally, I think the Nibelheim part of the game was a huge fail.

I mean, whether or not the player is aware of the subsequent events, there had to be something special about that part to create more emotional impact. Probably have Zack interact more with the townsfolk, including those mentioned that aren't there.

And it's not only about the tragic fate of the town. This is also Zack's last mission as SOLDIER and the last time he gets to live 'normally' (as opposed to being hunted down, that is).

But no, they didn't even bother to use different models for the NPCs.

Remove the Why song from the credits and after Cloud's scream just let the game be quiet and just have Zack slowly speaking and saying his final thoughts. Then let the J-Pop song play in the credits; away from Zack's death.

This thread has a shit load of opinions I love to read. Can´t applaud enough. Most of the points I would change have already been written down by others such as the removal of the japanese-twelve-year-old-girls-target-audience J Pop Song which I totally detest and less focus on Genesis or a better writing for God´s sake.I suggest a better soundtrack in general. There were WAY too few references to the old, great soundtrack by Uematsu in my opinion. Most of the pieces are forgettable and the focus on just two more present new melodies is not good enough for my taste. All in all, my general problem with Crisis Core is probably that it is still ´´just´´ a handheld game.At too many situations, the game gave me the feeling that it could have been way better if it had more extent and power given by the capability of a console like the PS3.And scenes like the Wutai War could have been expressed in a better way if this event got more screentime and a few more scenes than just Zack running around and slaying random ninjas.

I missed more cinematic scenes like those in VII which had left a huge impact to me and most of the scenery we´ve seen in the game could have been presented in a much darker and cruel way like OG showed us with the people in the Slums getting high or having no better options than drinking in a bar.But then again, a part of this is the problem of SEs shitty audience targeting. They had a totally wrong focus of attracting 12 year old kids who´d love to see their heroes and heroines in beach wear rather than a well written story with Zack beginning to realise more and more the false motives in which Shinra acts. But noo, putting Gackt everywhere where he doesn´t need to be just because reasons is poorly executed and I still couldn´t decide which entry of the Compilation is more detestable in my eyes because each of them has those flaws which didn´t have the whacky 90s charme some faults of OG has had.

Gosh, this is getting longer than it needed to be.I just hope they finish the Compilation story someday, otherwise it makes the reasons why such a poorly written prequel has to exist with too few inclusions of characters of OG even less understandable :O

Okay proper sum-up;

First of all they should've put this one on the console instead of DoC. I mean neither DoC nor CC were intended to be the final installment of the compilation, but Crisis Core is the only title that could feature Midgar in it's proper glory. And Midgar is a big part of what made FFVII great. It's got 7 sectors above the plate and seven below. We still haven't even seen half of it. Also we might then hae room to have Zack fight alongside other people, maybe even a brief Cloud/Tifa/Sephiroth playable section.

As said in the other topic, I'd forgo the clone army and rather have Genesis lead a group of Second and Third Class SOLDIERs with faces of their own against Shinra. I'd have the Wutai War drag on longer and Cloud introduced earlier.

Genesis can remain the result of a secret sister project to the one that created Sephiroth. Angeal needs to go. I contemplated keeping him on as just the normal childhood friend of Genesis but I'd rather just take him out completely. All he does is take up screentime that could be given to Cloud, Sephiroth, Lazard, Kunsel and Genesis, all better (or in the latter case more neccesary) characters, beyond that the whole SOLDIER honour thing and the much added value to the Buster Sword and living by a code of only using when needed too is all stuff that Cloud impersonating a SOLDIER First Class based on Zack's stories ver clearly had no idea off. The Buster Sword is just a sword and SOLDIER is not a knightly order by any stretch of imagination. Angeal's whole shtick needs to go.

Loveless can stay in it's present form but Genesis needs more lines asde from citations. Also gie us the option of taking Aerith on a date to see the Loveless play. Zack will sleep through most of it too off course but let us see enough of the beginning to give us a clearer picture of what the hell Genesis is so fascinated with.

Add in a few girl SOLDIERs and I'd say you got a good product.

I thought I was the only one taking issue with the added meaning to the Buster sword. My headcanon of it was that it's a SOLDIER standard issue with its importance solely based on it belonging to Zack.

You're right, but I've also read a lot of 'headcanons' that defy canon.. (ex. Zack and Aerith had sexx0rz). So either I'm wrong to use the term or it's acceptable to call it 'headcanon' as well?

But I see your point.

ForceStealer

Double Growth
Eh, that one's a little different. Because only nerds like us that know stuff about ultimanias and interview books would know that that's "canon." :P

But wishy-washy definition I guess :P

Unlucky

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN
Yeah.. I suppose it fits more into AU since it obviously defies canon? Lol I dunno bout these terms

Anyway.. another suggestion is to fix the derp moment (among the many) that is Cloud and Zack's meeting before being dispatched to Nibelheim. Zack approaches him and talks to him, but doesn't recognize him until they were about an arm's length away. How many grunts are there with a Chocobo-ass hairstyle? Is Zack extremely myopic? >_>

GET RID OF COSTLY PUNCH!!!

A game stuffed full of flashy magic, oversized weaponry, and legendary summons quickly became a game where our main protagonist who carries around a MASSIVE SWORD, sticks to solely using his offhand to deliver a hook to enemies of unparalleled strength in order to take them down, and was the only option to dispatch enemies who were somehow immune to physical AND magic damage, but that somehow doesn't include Zack's left fist.

It's the least balanced and least interesting spell in any game I've ever played.

This remains my biggest dislike of Crisis Core, and eclipses any story-centric issues.

I like the idea of Lazard being a main villain. They've already got a moral conflict there, and I think it would incite a lot of psychological warfare within Zack. An underlying theme in which people with different motives work with/under each other and get themselves into unfortunate situations wherein they question their relationship with the people they work with and their purpose in life. Though I'm considering how this would fare for the progression of the plot and Zack's motivations; the copies were a plot device that served as a concrete/undeniable antagonistic group to Shinra and to global security. Perhaps dump Genesis completely (I personally think two major Jenova products, namely Sephiroth and Angeal, are enough, for the sake of maintaining the 'snowflake' status) and utilize AVALANCHE again (who were incidentally not even mentioned IIRC despite the game overlapping chronologically with BC). I personally thought Angeal had a lot of potential; I like the idea of a father figure to Zack (and a sole friend to Sephiroth) that manifests itself within Zack and Cloud's relationship later on and embodied within the buster sword. Additionally, he would serve as a nice bridge between the two parties (Seph and Zack). Keep Hollander, too. Lots of characters I think are a good thing because the original game didn't really capture at all how huge Shinra really is. 2 dimentionals are fine imho as long as they don't take the spotlight.

In spite of an earlier post, I must say that I actually thoroughly enjoyed the soundtrack; I felt it was different enough to establish it as a different game but still retained the original spirit and threw in some decent renditions of classic tracks. I also approve of the usage of the same menu soundbytes in series games; it's subtle but it really does add a level of continuity.

My gameplay complaint - make Hollander a less tedious boss. Add another mode between easy and hard. I thought the Materia Fusion was pretty cool since it satisfied my customization fix; generally stuck with Dark Firaga, Osmose, Curaga, Steal, etc etc, beefed up with stat buffers. Didn't find myself using Command Materia often.
