Some more thoughts about the ending
First of all people on twitter pointed out that Zack's buster sword is really fucking rusty just compare it to Cloud's, so that's sus (...also no materia) rusty dusty.jpgcloud buster.jpg

Secondly I really think that Aerith's line at the end were directly connected to Zack.
The dlc ending feels super weird. For some reason the devs decided to remake the actual ending of part one. Same sky, the sudden rain and Aerith sensing Zack, while she also seems to be kinda uneasy. Which is a very strange decision since it's a bit cheap to redo a ending you just did for your main game. So that probably means the devs are trying to highlight something here imo. I think it's the connection between people that seems to happen when water is involved. this is also something that happens pretty often through out the compilation.
We saw it in CC when Zack was about to die
We saw it in AC between Aerith and Cloud and between her and Tifa in the airship
We saw it in the ending of the remake between Aerith and Zack
AND between Barret and Marlene. When she is watering flowers, there is a special focus on a water drop after that it's like she hearing her dad's voice, just for the game to cut to Barret who is literally calling out to her.
If you look at the scene it seems like both these moments are happening at the same time. And I think the same goes for Zack and Aerith. It starts to rain and suddenly Aerith is feeling uneasy cut to a very nervous Zack. So that would mean these scenes are simultaneously happening which seems to be a bit of a problem since it looks like when the team arrives at Kalm it's already getting dark while the Zack scene seems to happen wen it's still bright outside, but if you look at the sky when the team arrives at Kalm you realize it's literally the same color/brightness from before (the remake ending), but if you look back at the DLC ending, before the team hitchhikes it's super bright outside which means it couldn't have been evening when they started their journey, it just looked like that because of the rain and clouds. The same thing is happening again in the DLC ending, it looks like it's evening but actually it's probably more like noon.

Again some time latermaxresdefault (2).jpg
so it's probably just has been a couple of hours since they left Midgar

I'm surprised it took someone so long to bring up how ridiculous it is to be having these "timeline AU" discussions in regards to FF7 btw.
I brought this up all the way back when we found out what the Enemy Descriptions of the Whispers were when Remake first released. And how EoCroth reminded me a lot of Ultimacia, which he still does. It is still a bit bonkers 6o me that FFVII had time-travel added to it out of nowhere after all these years, but well... here we are.

It is kinda funny how large parts of what would be FF8 and FF10 can be traced back the FF7 early material files. They just had some details tweaked. That FF8 focused so much on time-travel... maybe they had always planned for a time-travel plot in FF7 and just never got to work it into the OG like a lot of other things... and so they're now adding it back in? I'm half-way kidding, but with NKN, you never know.

I would much rather have literary discussions about Remake than world-building discisions, but it seems people would rather talk about potential world-building we don't know yet. Rather than oh... character and narrative arcs we've know for a very long time and even have developer commentary about. That's the kind of stuff you can do with Remake that doesn't depend on world-building to get some sense of direction about where the plot could likely go.

Just the same rust, bro.
You better compare CGI to CGI not in game model.

Just had a thought, forgot if already mentioned, but what if Zack goes to the Shinra building to rescue Aerith, if in same timeline as party he finds her already gone, the amount of time taken on this might delay his catching up to the party some, and then if he doesn't use transport it'll take him a full day to get to Kalm? If different timeline he rescues Aerith instead, but he might also have a Cloud with him?, wild

Seeing as they are clearly not afraid of Dirge of Cerberus material, I wonder if they're going to take the opportunity to patch up the biggest plot hole with that game in regards to the original.

Hojo's plan to steal Weiss' body and become a vessel for Omega is initiated upon him seeing Vincent turn into Chaos and realizing Lucrecia's thesis was true. He expressly credits this as the reason he chose to inject himself with Jenova cells at the Mako cannon. The problem is... there's no point in the game before the mako cannon where he could possibly have seen Vincent do that.

Since Chaos has been more strongly tied to Vincent in Dirge, I wonder if he'll be able to transform into chaos when under duress (not as a proper limit break until later) and Hojo will put him into such a situation in a new scene and see it happen. The VR boss in the Yuffie DLC and the cutscene after you beat Weiss seem to imply he's already messing around with some of these ideas.

My bet remains that this scene where Hojo sees Vincent transform into Chaos will happen at the Northern Crater in the minutes before, during or after The Reunion takes place. Vincent is there and so is Hojo. Perhaps Vincent ends up unwillingly transforming into Chaos, due to this form resonating with the awakening of the other Weapon at the Northern Crater. This could happen when everybody is escaping to the Highwind, right after Cloud has given the Black Materia to Sephiroth.

Alternately, the Shin-Ra execs are shown flying in on the Highwind right before the time of the fight with Jenova-DEATH in the original, so that could easily be when Hojo would have seen Vincent transform into Chaos.

Tbh the ending was pretty bad. The entire dlc leads up to Yuffie having her naive world view shattered (which then happens) just for the game to skip the actual meat of the matter where Yuffie overcomes her grief and grows from her journey. She goes from traumatized and devastated to composed and hopeful again. The story is 5 hours of setup with no pay off which is confusing to me
Eh, I don't see it that way. Yuffie suppressing her feelings for now (to get upset about them later) and carrying on is the payoff.

Incidently, the one place that goes into Aerith in the Lifestream in detail, Case of Lifestream - White, never has Aerith raising the Lifestream to push back Meteor. Even though Case of Lifestream - Black goes into Sephiroth trying to protect Meteor from the rest of the Lifestream. The OG is very vague on if Aerith actually *is* controlling the Lifestream at the end also. So there's room to think that Aerith might not have had anything to do with the end of the OG at all and it was the Lifestream acting independently of her that was acting against Meteor.
Her 10th Anniversary Ultimania profile says she controlled it, though.

The DoC stuff was definitely fan service
DoC stuff was ... fan service

Today in "Sentences You'd Never Have Imagined Could Be Real One Year Ago" ... :monster:

The real Lifestream was the friends we made along the way

Well ... yes. Exactly right. :monster:

I think the end of Intergrade is signalling that we are getting a new protagonist and hero....Zack. He'll come back, charm everyone with his charisma, save Aerith, and overshadow Cloud, because that's just how he rolls. He's Steve Rogers, the key to making things right in this timeline. Cloud can be his sidekick if he wants, though. Huzzah for Zack!

Dont worry, Cloud is Falcon/New Captain America when Zack return to his respective timeline to be with the woman he loves.

So I finally decided to watch a full playthrough. Yuffie is utterly lovable. And that ending with Sonon and the plate fall was way better than the cheesy dialog in chapter 12 for some reason. It was just much easier to see how cruel the situation was to Yuffie. Though the transition to the ending did feel kinda abrupt.

And Scarlet's portrayal was amazing too. Competently cruel. Makes me wonder why President Shinra appears to trust Heidegger more, but I guess it's kinda like that in real life too. People trust and listen to whoever they want to often without good reasons. Or maybe Heidegger is just less likely to stab the President in the back.

And Yuffie sitting on Scarlet's cushy chair is just funny XD

My thought on expecting Yuffie to be grieving in the end...

From her dealings with effects of the Wutia war, (including the CC stuff & BC stuff, where if I recall right she has younger age cameos) she likely has already experienced very much life trauma. So by the time of Intermission ending, outside of right in the moment, she probably is a bit jaded or has long adapted a way of dealing & suppressing as a character trait. The way Sonnon speaks to Yuffie about the Wutia war and, them also being with the wrong splinter cell, highlighted a tone of regard that showed he expected yuffie to understand (in a way Midgar ppl should not) horror comparable to his loss of Melffie already. So I would think for the little time she new Sonnon she probably would be humming a Chocobo theme as she leaves Midgar to continue the same mission she has been on with similar circumstances her whole life... it strikes me as consistent with how energetic she is on arrival as a kid from a war torn place. And she clearly has decided she doesn’t want to be alone on her mission anymore. I take that as a impact of Sonnons company and the failed there mission in Shinra HQ

My thoughts on part two & Zack...

I think part two will have it’s own DLC intermission staring Zack! That comes months after the game has been out. Sorta like this intergrade overhaul. In part for the sake of giving them more developing time. I think Zack will do something important in his story arch that is pivotal to the main characters story arch success and we won’t realize we could not have won without Zack until we play his arc.

Also, if part two starts out with us having to play as playing as Zack and Sephiroth on orders from Shinra to check out Neblhiem. All Before the getting cgi video flashbacks of Cloud explaining things to the squad differently, outside of the very end, with tifa giving a subtle confusion reactions. ... ... Then... That could be caaaazy... Madneficent... and I’ll take it!

I can see it now...

instead of opening with a eagle above Midgar before zooming into a train for a bombing run.

it could be a opening with a overlook of Midgar before zooming out to a massive world map overview before zoom panning into the back of a the Neblhime crews mission truck. Thematic music & then one of the crew mates telling us to be ready for the monsters ahead ... and boom,, the car crashes into a beast and into fight actions we go before reaching town. After a initial fight, this can be a way to introduce open world vehicle operating mechanics in a tutorial as well.

I mean really, the Neblhiem incident is going to be dealt with early in the game for sure. And how else are they going to make a exciting start to this new game, beginning at calm, with self contained game tutorial mechanics.

but then again ... dropping straight into clouds memory with no mention of Zack would be pretty cool ... but not as cool. Or dropping into the calm hotel room with mates trying to question what just happened. But that seems really like it could be really slow paced.

If anyone is interested, here is a comparison between the four languages of the game and how the VA performed:

I must say, they all sound good, but probably... English, despite being great, is the one language I prefer the least. They all did a phenomenous job, I was surprised by how good German sounds even though I don't like German lol. The French Yuffie is still my favourite by a mile though, and probably in English, to me, she doesn't sound that young? I was a bit shocked to hear her with such a voice, compared to the more kid-like one in French. The JP is great, as usual.
