Looper: It was ok and enjoyable enough but I had to pause it 20 mins in to discuss the plot
Right like, so one of the loopers let his future self go instead of killing him (as per the deal) so in retaliation they get him (his present/young self) and cut bits off of him, at the same time this is happening his future(old) self is noticing his fingers going missing and stuff and a message carved into his arm telling him to turn up at some place in 15 mins....anyway he ends up having his arms legs and nose and stuff cut off. What I don't get is a) What is the motivation for the old self to return when they're just going to kill him anyway b)Why don't they just kill the young self? The reasoning behind killing the old self is to cover their tracks so nobody can know about all the hits they've done....but if they kill the young self that would cover it up too right? I don't get it.

Dark Knight Rises: Was ok I guess. I have to confess I don't really give a shit about comics or movies based on them. For me this whole Batman reboot falls between two stools. Its like its trying to be too serious/realistic but its about a man who dresses up as a bat to get the bad guys. So it should just be silly fun....but then it starts with the serious/emotional bits and I find it really jarring. I actually liked Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, didn't think I would but I found her one liners amusing.

Also I can't help cracking up at Batmans voice....so Banes voice was just... Why did they make him sound like the old man in the 'Pepperidge Farm' adverts?

Warm Bodies - I watched the preview, thought it looked rather silly, but I gave it a chance. It was actually a lot better than I was expecting it to be. When you go in expecting a romantic comedy about zombies, you probably don't have very high expectations, but it was really sweet and fun and it did surprise me a few times, so I'd recommend it ^_^

Unlucky

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN
Who would've though that the film I'm watching, Giallo , has a cameo appearance of an FF7 porn doujin :monster: I tried looking for screenshots but found none, in fact I don't think anybody has noticed but I guess only a few that watched the film can recognize that.

I'm pretty sure I saw two pages of Red XIII with Tifa and Aerith, and the reader mutters ".. Heh heh heh.. nice dog". :wackymonster:

This Is 40. It were rubbish. Also the latest "Die Hard" pretender, which I probably preferred to the last thing because it was louder and didn't have Justin Long in it.

Because
If they kill his younger self, his entire life ceases to have happened. Essentially as they're torturing him, it's directly altering his past, and he's basically stuck with that as his only possible survival option.

The reason for not just killing the young self without the old self present is that... well it's just temporally dangerous. They want to ensure that in the timeline that he came from, AND the timeline that they're creating, that he dies in the same place, so it doesn't create a potential paradox (it's loosely analogous to why Loopers close their own loops).

You can bump open the thread if you want to get into some nitty gritty details.

I've been indifferent about seeing Dark Knight Rises. This now makes me want to watch it. XD

Dark Skies - the most terrifying film I've seen in a good long time. They do really well managing the tension and just delivering on all fronts. I was hoping it'd be decent and was VERY surprised. Easily the best close encounter film in recent memory.

Lost in Translation.

Many people say that they don't get the movie. I happen to get it, maybe because I've been feeling like Johansson's character for many months, if not years.

It was pretty enjoyable, if a bit depressing, because it doesn't present any solution to the character's predicament. However, knowing that there are more people how feel like me out there it's comforting, in a sense.

Still lives up to today, I think. Great humor, fun story, and lots of surprises, not to mention a kick-ass song by Kiss during the end credits. But good God, looking back, I remember how that whole scene in Hell traumatized me as a kid, especially the old grandmother (shudders). William Sadler (as Death) is dead hilarious (no pun intended

Wreck-It Ralph

Wow.. Just Wow... I was really blown away by this film. Pixar really has outdone themselves this time and it was completely unforgettable and fun! I loved all the characters, story, development, all of it! Btw,
Am I the only one who felt that Turbo/King Candy was just a wee bit.. creepy? Especially after he fused with the bug?

Just finished watching Argo and wow, it was amazing. The fact that it is based on true events and uses real life footage from the time really makes this movie special. Ben Affleck done a fantastic job Directing this and starring in it.

As serious as the film was it had it's comical moments that were brilliant.

Until now Skyfall and Avengers were the best films I have seen from last year and this year but I believe this tops them and it thoroughly deserved the best picture Oscar.

Disney's reboot to 'The Wizard of Oz' explores trickster and conman Oscar Diggs (played by James "Harry Osborn" Franco) and how he discovered the fantastical world of Oz, not to mentioning making a few enemies (Kunis and Weisz). Start of the movie pays respectable homage to the classic 1939 film, shot in black and white. And as you'd predict, once in Oz, everything shines and sparkles.

Sam Raimi delivers all the magical goods. He certainly knows how to scare his audience (especially with old wrinkled creepy-ass witches), and for fans of his movies, you'll spot a lot of his traits. (See if you can point out Bruce Campbell in his almost unrecognizable cameo.)

The ending though, did feel a little underwhelming. And honest to say, I wish they could have picked a better actress to play the Wicked Witch of the West.
Mila Kunis looks okay, but she just can't capture the essence of Margaret Hamilton. And is it wrong for me to keep thinking of Meg Griffin?

I don't usually watch these kinds of movies at cinemas. The things I do for women. Anyways, was actually a lot better than I expected. I don't understand why Jennifer Lawrence got an oscar for it though. I think Jackie Weaver's performance was far better, surely better than Anne Hathaway's performance.

Anyways, 3,5/5 stars. Would have rated it higher, but it kind of dragged at the end.

That new Die Hard movie. Pretty generic / tropey action flick, but, good action flick bits, so, :monster:. Also gun porn.

All I ever see her as is a whiny teenager throwing a tantrum. I dont get why people think she's a good actress. It was just more pronounced in this role because shes supposed to be threatening, but I just wanted to tell her to shut up. She just plays Jackie from That 70's Show in every role, except maybe not as ditsy/stupid. And I hate that character

Good movie though. Loved the whole first part in black and white and clearly being filmed in a sound stage with a matte painting for the background.
There were some moments in Oz tho that were CLEARLY green screen, to the point I almost said "wow" out loud when I saw it, it was that bad. (Franco and Mila walking on the yellow brick road between the sunflowers)

I love the humor tho, Franco does well as Oz and his story's interesting. The climax is great and I love how it was done with a few minor gripes.
And oh my god, the China Doll scene. Tears. Tears everywhere.

P.S. Did anyone else NOT recognize Bruce Campbell? I had no clue that was him. I wont spoil who he's playing, but it's not something generic like Ted Raimi's "skeptic in crowd" role.

Excellent movie if you're a fan of non-actiony British espionage. Very well-written, and really with Bill Nighy as your lead it's hard to go wrong.
