Couldn't sleep last night so I watched Prometheus instead. I quite enjoyed it. I remember it getting lots of flack when it came out but I thought it did a good job of keeping my attention throughout :monster:

How to be Single. I laughed a lot. "Dicksand" is so accurate.

I also saw Trainwreck which I found hilarious at times but it reviewed horribly.

The Nightmare

A documentary about sleep paralysis. Tho it's mainly interviewing people about their experiences and how its effected their lives, without going into the science of it any.
And... Jesus fucking Christ. If I had this condition I swear I would kill myself. I wouldn't be able to handle it.
If you don't know, it's not just you arnt able to move. From what I understand after doing some research, basically you are awake, and asleep. So your body is in a state of hyper awareness, but the section of your brain that filters out things that arnt deemed dangerous isn't working correctly, so everything comes across as a direct threat to your life. To your brain, if something's vague then better safe than sorry, so it's a threat.
Then the hallucinations kick in. Which can range from multiple people screaming in your ear, to a guy talking to you, to a shadow man/men, demons, people at your window, whatever. And every one of your senses is telling you that the thing is there, and that it means to harm you.
Keep in mind that while all this is happening you cannot move. Or call out for help, you are utterly helpless as your mind completely betrays you.
And sometimes, you can feel actual pain. One guy described how a metal claw clawed up his dick and he actually felt it as if it was happening.

Just.... fucking christ.

This happens to me. It's most consistent in the mornings, if I've woken up once and then fall back asleep on my back. For whatever reason, it only seems to happen if I'm sleeping on my back. But yeah, full blown panic mode, hallucinations, sheer terror from being able to do nothing. Sometimes I KNOW what is happening, but I can't move to wake myself up or anything because re: paralysis. It absolutely does 100% suck and is never not terrifying.

OT: I saw both CA Winter Soldier and CA Civil War this weekend. I highly enjoyed both of them. I can't get over how well done and fun the Marvel movies are. Planning to rent Deadpool next time that Micah, Force, and I are all together.

X Men: First Class. Is it just me, or is the whole 'oppressed minority' theme undermined a lot by no one being able to stop mutants from doing anything they want?

Could recognise that both those Cap movies were well executed, but I still didn't like either much.

Amizon, Commander Shepard, Ellie, Rinoa Heartilly, Xena, Clara Oswald, Gamora, Lana Kane, Tifa Lockhart, Jodie Holmes, Chloe Price.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.

Better than its predecessor, decent story, some nice funny moments here and there, and then there's the addition of Stephen Amell, who I thought stole the show quite a bit (although I admit I kept seeing Oliver from Arrow a lot!). Megan Fox was a bit more bearable this time.

Not bad, I'd give it 7.5/10.

Hail Ceasar.

Was quite funny, had some laugh out loud moments. But I guess the story didn't hang together that well. I mean the main character is meant to be Josh Brolin, but I don't feel like we got much of a feel for that person and that he was just a thing connecting the other characters. So it was just a variety of loosely connected funny stuff happening. I guess. It was fun as one giant pisstake of old hollywood. 7/10

It was better than I expected. Had plenty of issues, but I probably enjoyed it more than the original, I dunno. 3.5/5 stars.

It was shallow, it was rushed, the president had to sacrifice himself twice because Will Smith backed out, but damn it was fun. It also had my favorite gay couple onscreen - They never said it. You just KNEW. That's how to do it right, lol.

My friend has gotten into The Bible Reloaded Youtube channel and has brought me along to watch certain Christian films :monster: - for "critical analysis", of course
Not films with Christian themes, by the way, but films with intentional Christian agendas.

'God's Not Dead' & 'A Matter of Faith'
These are the kind of bad that's funny/silly bad and you can have a laugh on a slow day as long as you are with people to have the laugh with. I mean, they're bad overall (especially how the "protagonists" win their cases, and especially, especially in the latter film), but unintentionally entertaining when you go into it with the right mindset of getting ready to give out about everything in it as you watch :monster:

'Saving Christmas'
Easily the worst "film" I have ever seen. And that's by a country mile. It's so dire I cannot find redeeming qualities for it, and even in films I can never watch again I will remain neutral with stuff like "not for me", "they tried", "that actor was average, and fulfilled the role", "the camera work was okay" "somebody somewhere maintained the basics". But this is so bad. There are two background instrumental pieces that work. They're nothing special (nothing "redemptive"); they just make a little sense in comparison to every other piece...and every other element in this film.

I don't know whether I'm begging for Christmas to arrive tomorrow to help wipe away the particular themed images of this film, or if I just flat out hate Christmas now.

I've so much stuff to do. Why did I let him drag me into all this??

"The Unforgiven"

After the disappointment that was "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly", it was nice to see a high-quality western. TGTB&TU has its place in movie history but I enjoyed The Unforgiven many times more. One of the great Clint Eastwood movies.

The last 3 movies I watched~

13 Hours: The story of the American soldiers in Benghazi on 9-11-12. Was a good, but intense, movie. I can't even imagine being through such an ordeal. Worth the watch.

Star Trek Beyond: I really enjoyed it. :monster:
Favorite moments: the Enterprise getting utterly destroyed in the first quarter of the movie, the (in my mind) awesome design of the alien ships and how they operated that destroyed Enterprise, the character Jaylah, the gigantic orb Yorktown that housed cities and docking bays and whatnot and looked awesome, Spock (as usual :awesome:) and him and Uhura still being together at the end of the show, and the moment when Enterprise used music to destroy the alien fleet. FUCKING MUSIC. At first I was like "Oh my god come on, how corny!" and then seconds later I was like "But it's so awesome" :wacky:

When Marnie was there: Just watched this this morning; I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, it was pleasant and mysterious and meaningful the whole way. I loved the visuals of it all (or I should say the location, looked like a lovely place) and the characters, and all the puzzle pieces in the movie that you get and slowly but surely are able to see it all come together.
I really liked the plot of Marnie being Anna's grandmother the whole time, and that the two girls are able to meet in some strange time lapse. They love they shared was so sweet. <3 Also, Anna's total insecurity in herself (or more like self-loathing) is something that I think most people can relate to, at some point or another. It's refreshing to see her eventually become happy again over the course of the movie. ^_^
Anyways I loved it, totally recommend it for people to watch.

Finished the whole trillogy live action movies of Rurounin Kenshin on NETFLIX. Overall they´re damn goood!!!. Speaking about specifics:

Movie 1: Rurounin Kenshin (2012)
  1. Good adaptation: By this I mean, the movie knows that has a limited amount of time to tell a story as well being aware that needs to be self-contained and thus made the necesary changes from its source material to perfectly work as a movie.
  2. Awesome choreography & fight scenes: The fights are very fast and exciting, with both changing choreography and camera techniques used to keep the action consistently fresh and interesting. There is some amount of wirework, but unlike that in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, it is used for making the characters move incredibly fast or slide across the ground instead of making them fly—adding a bit of the spectacle without looking fake.
  3. The Music: One of the most surprising things about Rurouni Kenshin was the music. It was simply awesome, they matched well and made everything more dramatic and exciting. This is my favourite of the bunch.

Going into the film I was expecting a mediocre retelling of the Kenshin story. But Rurouni Kenshin completely blew away my meager expectations (so much that it made me watch the other 2 on the same day). It was not only a good adaptation but also a good movie in its own right.

Movie 2: Rurounin Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno (2014)
  1. Better Fight scenes & choreography than the fist movie: There are a good half-dozen fight scenes over the course of the film and each is excellent. While the action is fast, it still clear at any given moment what is going on—even in scenes where Kenshin is fighting literally dozens of men at once. This is due to not only the cinematic skill present in the film, but also due to the costumes which are clearly designed to make the leads stand out—especially in the fight scenes set at night.
  2. Covers a lot of plot from the source: Kyoto Inferno covers a massive chunk of the story—easily over half of the entire Shishio arc. There´re still some plot points cut from the manga but still keeps the core story intact.
  3. Good Music: Same as in movie 1.
  4. Good use of a big cast: There is Kenshin's group of six, Shisho and his group, Aoshi, Misao, Nenji, and the rest of the ninja clan to top it off. And that's not even counting the numerous one-off characters that Kenshin meets on his travels.
With so many characters, it's actually rather surprising how well developed most of them are.
  5. 1 particular plot point is not well develop: When the first Kenshin live-action movie was made, it was clearly made with the assumption that it would be a standalone film. Therefore, in order to better transpose the lengthy manga plot into film form, many abridgments were made to focus the story. One of these abridgments involved completely cutting out an important character—which is problematic given his role in the rest of the series. Thus, the filmmakers were faced with a choice when it came to this second film: cut him completely again or figure out a way to reintroduce him into the story. They chose the latter and had some mix results.

Movie 3: Rurounin Kenshin: Legend Ends (2014)
  1. Pinacle of action scenes: Easily the best fight sequences you could have in a live action movie. Better than any of the previous 2 movies. The film’s entire final third (about 40 minutes) is one long unbroken action scene.
  2. Good Music: Just like I said above.
  3. Good use of pratical effects: For anyone who has some kind disgust to CG (I don´t) you will like this movie (and the previous 2 also), this trillogy has the best use of practical effects but the third movie takes the cake easily.
  4. Unnecesary Long: speaking of a mix aspect, the movie didn´t need to be a 2 hours and half movie, the things that happens in the first 40 minutes could have been compressed into 20.

My enjoyment overall : Movie 1> Movie 2> Movie 3
My score for each one:
  • Movie 1: 9/10
  • Movie 2: 8.5/10
  • Movie 3: 8/10

I saw a midnight showing of Over the Top at Chicago's Music Box Theater. I don't remember if I've seen a Sylvester Stallone film in theaters, so it was pretty nice :P Brought back childhood memories.

Are you referring to Tomoe's brother?

I loved the practical effects in the live action movies. I'm not crazy about CG. :|

Suicide Squad
I had a very difficult time staying focused the entire time. Not my cup of tea. :[

I nit picked through the whole movie. That's not how life works, that's not how divorce works, that's not how any of this works.

Shit movie, but hadn't seen it since I was a little kid. I figure it was meant to be set in the future, but there was nothing futuristic depicted in it, except perhaps one scene where they show a city skyline. The rebels look like commies. Everyone wears eighties fashion. The bad guys suspiciously look like wrestlers. Women haven't developed socially either. Granted the same could be said about a lot of retro-futures, "like now, but 30 years in the future." 1.5/5 stars.

I dunno if it was better than I was expecting or not. I had low expectations :P. I dunno, 3/5 stars, I guess. It wasn't as predictable as I thought it was going to be, so it gets 0.5 stars for that (already included :P).
I totally thought Jake was going to be Abe. I didn't predict Barron was a shape-shifter either, that twist was good. Having said that, it was pretty obvious the twins special power not being told, and revealed only at the end, meant it was going to be a surprise finisher in some way.
Casting choices were very good though, despite lack of diversity, and Burton's apparent ignorance about such things :P. They all looked... peculiar :P.

It was on Netflix, figured I'd goan watch it. I watched the second a while ago, which I think is a bit more err, visually impressive, but maybe I only remember the giant lava monster from the start. Overall it's kind of a lame movie, but hey. I'm seeing a lot of potential for a God of War movie, which is probably what this (and its sequel) was sorta intended to be. A GoW movie would / should be R rated and gory though, none of that "gift from the gods" shit, more like FUCK YOU GODS I'LL TAKE WHATEVER THE FUCK I WANT AND MURDER YOU. PEGASUS? I'LL PUNCH YOU IN THE HORSE FACE YOU CUNT NOW TAKE ME WHERE I NEED TO GO. AREEEEEeEeeS!11one. :monster:

A decent documentary about the life and literary history of Lovecraft. It's the kinda bland form of documentary, composed mostly out of interviews with a handful of people, but it's mixed with loads of fan art and content and passages from the books and shit, alongside the history of the author at the time of writing said stories.

The Lobster. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It wasn't my choice to see it and it sounded pretty silly, which it was, but in a clever way. Its awkward humour made me laugh out loud multiple times, probably more than anyone else in the audience, so it obviously hit the right notes for me. :) A pointless but enjoyable 7 out of 10 (I grade harshly).
