Even though I wanted to like it, I thought Interstellar was crap, though the real disappointment for me was Zimmer's composition. He had always previously delivered good soundtracks even in movies I hated like TDKR.

Zootopia

Go see it guys. It's not quite as good, but what one reviewer said is very spot on. What Inside Out did for psychological issues, this does for sociological issues.

all it did was make me unable to hear the actors speak and sort of ruined the movie for me because I got irritated by that.

I watched a midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. My second time since last December where people act out the movie while it's playing.

Immortals:

Not as terrible as reviews led me to believe. Immensely satisfying fights, mythology I enjoy and OK plot. Near-naked

certainly helped me enjoy it. All that ancient graaaa testosterone in that armour sets the groin aflutter. Nummy. Annoyingly hetero but what can you do.

Stardust:

Really enjoyed this one! Slightly long but not too long? It's more that it's obviously a book adaptation and there's a lot to get through. I haven't read the book. I enjoyed the movie. I was surprised by its humour. Worth a watch if you're into Disney-ish fantasy with a slightly more adult streak.

(I'm way glad you liked Immortals, Lex). :D

Related, I watched another of Tarsem Singh's films over the weekend — The Fall. While it's a bit uneven, it's still a hell of a film, especially since it was shot over the span of 4 years, using only his money and a lot of the dialogue was basically candid.

Additionally, I watched Mongol, which is just 100% fantastic and engrossing.

A few things I thought were done really well, and others not so much :monster:. Even with all the nice stuff, nothing felt really amazing. There was about two scenes I liked. Since both appear in the trailer, I don't think it is much of a spoiler to say those were the Man Of Steel battle scene from Wayne's perspective, and the courtroom scene. Seeing as I also know what real life issue the movie is commenting on, it almost felt a bit preachy / propaganda-ish at times. It isn't really subtle. The more I think about it the more I want to say, but I'll leave it at that. 3.5/5 stars.

I just finished watching The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. It was good, but it didn't have to drag on for more than 2 hours. The epilogue lasted like 30 minutes and was boring.

I just finished Kung Fu Panda 3. It was good! It didn't disappoint. My favorite out of the series remains 2, though.

Appleseed Alpha. It's a decent movie; I was mostly disappointed that the VA for the dude cyborg wasn't David Hayter, despite sounding pretty much exactly like him, :monster:.

Anyway like I said, decent movie, nice graphics, decent storyline, very video game-like. Very tropey though, half the dialog is from the basic book of lame canned phrases, some preachy meh about stuff and shit, poorly motivated bad guys, etc. Graphics were pretty good, but it's losing points for physics (mostly car physics), sound effects (missing / out of place / etc), and poor music (completely inappropriate at one point).

My negative points make it sound worse than it is though :monster:

Hardcore Henry

Do you like action scenes that don't take themselves too seriously, and just want to take you on a fun ride? Check out HH.
My only real complaint is that sometimes it's difficult to tell whats happening since the camera is zipping all over because of the guy doing a lot of movements, mainly during the hand to hand portions. Also, the movie is literally action scenes. The longest stretch between them was maybe.. 8-10 min? With the average being about 3-5. I enjoyed it, but if you're looking for something more, this isn't the movie.

Also, I can honestly say I've never seen someone die that way before. I'm not sure how you even think of that lol

p.s. Because it's entirely in first person, you may have motion sickness problems if you're prone to that. I'd say it's worse than Cloverfield in that regard, but I've never had motion sickness, so I'm not really sure.

"Video games: the movie"; a rather disjointed series of history lessons, infographics, repeated timeline that goes back and forth a dozen times, interviews with a bunch of influential video game peoples, a hipster writer for some magazine, two female models, and hundreds of short clips of video games. I'm not even sure what the goal of the documentary is, there didn't seem to be an obvious point besides some history and some philosophical quotes from said interviewed people, somehow a lot of them about how gaming is a real industry and here to stay and shit like that. Properly creepy, and about as obtuse as one's expect for a very independent film like that. Some properly spectacular moments though.

The Adventures of Tintin

Unlike the marvel wossnames, I actually read the comics this one was based on when I was y00f, so, :monster:. I think it's one of the best movies to have been made recently; it's an animation from a party separate from fucking Pixar and the crappier Dreamworks CGI movies, so that's already a bonus.

But also, it's a collaboration between Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson; how often do you ever get a collaboration between two of the greatest directors and shit of all time, OF ALL TIME?

Also, alcoholism in a movie. With Andy Serkis doing his movie!Scotsman imitation (why is there only ever one scottish accent in movies anyway, Lex plz judge that shit harder!). And those dudes from Hot Fuzz. And Daniel Craig. Top actors but you wouldn't be able to recognize them because they focused completely on creating characters to the likeness of the original source material, instead of using big actors' faces to promote the movie. Which is probably why I haven't heard much of it after it was released (that and the fact it's based on a Belgian comic book series which I'm sure weren't too popular outside of my neck of the woods).

So yeah er, it's an adventure animation movie in the spirit of Indiana Jones (but before that was mainstream; Spielberg himself was first introduced to it in the 80's after reading a review of Indiana Jones in French which drew all the parallels with Tintin), semi-realistic style, mix of action and comedy, and er. All in all a very good watch. Was on Netflix, so check that shit out if you have it.

So I happened to be around London when this hit theaters. Just came back from watching aaaaaand... it might be too soon to say since I still need to compose myself, but right now all I can say is that I hold very mixed feelings. Some initial thoughts:

Apocalypse is nearly nothing like he is in the comics, which would have been fine had the approach to his character not been something already done a million-gazillion times. Nothing about him being a god, immortal, or him fusing with any alien/Celestial technology, and his origin follows NOTHING from 'Rise of Apocalypse'. Instead we have this mutant who transfers his consciousness from old guy to young guy and so forth in order to live for centuries. Why he suddenly rises from power in 1983 is ludicrous; Moira MacTaggert goes off tomb raiding directly underneath Cairo and inadvertently wakes up the mutant after he's remained dormant for thousands of years, yet NO blame is put on her whatsoever.

Angel and Psylocke are better portrayed in this movie than how they were in 'Last Stand' but that's not saying a whole lot. Some glamorous fights, but killing off Angel and having Psylocke simply walk off at the end like she's no one's business just didn't sit right with me. Would have been better had they simply joined the X-men and be part of them like they're SUPPOSED to.

Scarlet Witch (maybe?) was in the movie for FAR too short before getting killed off immediately.

Havok dies because boo-hoo, Quicksilver didn't save him in time, although that brings me to:

Having Quicksilver save mutants from an explosion whilst listening to Annie Lennox's 'Sweet Dreams' was kinda sweet.

Climax is simply something taken out of an 'Elm Street' script and just guess who ends up killing Apocalypse?

No...? Nobody...?

JEAN FUCKING GREY AND THE PHOENIX!

Oh yeah, and Wolverine's in the movie for about five minutes. Nothing special.

Still need to think about this more. But for now, I give this a 2.5/5 rating. Again mixed feelings and a lot missed potential. Too many characters and too many stories to follow despite stunning visuals, great designs and action pieces, but not enough heart.

Watched Hollow man earlier today.

Kevin Bacon has played two characters named Sebastian that were crazy.

The Nightmare

A documentary about sleep paralysis. Tho it's mainly interviewing people about their experiences and how its effected their lives, without going into the science of it any.
And... Jesus fucking Christ. If I had this condition I swear I would kill myself. I wouldn't be able to handle it.
If you don't know, it's not just you arnt able to move. From what I understand after doing some research, basically you are awake, and asleep. So your body is in a state of hyper awareness, but the section of your brain that filters out things that arnt deemed dangerous isn't working correctly, so everything comes across as a direct threat to your life. To your brain, if something's vague then better safe than sorry, so it's a threat.
Then the hallucinations kick in. Which can range from multiple people screaming in your ear, to a guy talking to you, to a shadow man/men, demons, people at your window, whatever. And every one of your senses is telling you that the thing is there, and that it means to harm you.
Keep in mind that while all this is happening you cannot move. Or call out for help, you are utterly helpless as your mind completely betrays you.
And sometimes, you can feel actual pain. One guy described how a metal claw clawed up his dick and he actually felt it as if it was happening.

Just.... fucking christ.

(I have sleep paralysis from time-to-time, and it SUCKS. I luckily don't get the hallucinations at all, but I do get the frozen panic, wake up, immediately fall back asleep, repeat, until I'm WIDE awake. I've managed a pretty good routine where I don't have it almost ever and can usually tell when it does/will — if I start dreaming vividly over several days).

Either way, now I wanna check out the documentary to see what all they go into. Where'd ya watch it?

I saw it on netflix, but then it's Canadian Netflix, so not sure if would be on yours. Easy to check tho.

I'm glad you don't get the hallucinations... just.. Jesus that terrifies the fuck out of me. They also reenact their experiences, to help get across what going through it is actually like. I went to the IMDb boards and read from some people that suffer from it and apparently they did a pretty good job of getting across what it's like.
