I'm watching probably the same stream as the others here and what was interesting is how Aerith talks and feels about Zack. Cloud straight forward asks here, if she still got feelings for him and she answered with yes and he didn't gave her any reason not to. Guess the leaks were right so far.
I'm not really one to talk either because I still have Vietnam War flashbacks from my ACF days, but imho, the LTD only exists if you take as a given that: 1) a love triangle exists; 2) it still hasn't been resolved after 27 years.
I'm not gonna pretend that I read through all hundred or so professional reviews for Rebirth, but I think it's quite telling that while a lot of them mention the GS Date mechanic, the takeaway that "Wow, they're really teasing out the love triangle in this installment!" hasn't been a major theme of said reviews.
Marketing is always telling a completely different story. But again...if marketing was telling the real story then
Aerith would have lived this time around.
...and maybe my favs would have won their season of Survivor for once!
Just based on my personal experience, viewing everything via the lens of "Are they going to resolve the LTD?" is such a narrow and self-defeating way to consume these games. You can't help but see Cloud's interactions as a zero-sum game, but trust me, Cloud breathing in Aerith's direction is not a threat to his relationship with Tifa.
There's also this weird second-order thing going on, where you can't even enjoy your own interpretation of the game because you're worried that some random strangers on the internet are going to interpret it in a different way. But why should you let them (obviously including myself here, so feel free to totally ignore me, lol) determine your own interpretation/enjoyment of the game?
Veil of ignorance, if you go into Rebirth like a newborn babe without any knowledge of this 27 year old "debate" but a basic set of motor functions and media literacy, I'd imagine you'd be able to take these interactions for what they are, not SE endlessly perpetuating the LTD, but....character development.
tl;dr -- the LTD can only hurt you if you believe it's real. And since I don't, I really shouldn't be posting here anymore because I wouldn't be arguing in good faith (no pun intended)...so take this as my very long-winded way of tellling all the Clotis in this thread to come to Faith so I won't just be rambling to myself after the 29th!

I will say this can easily end in part 3, by just doing one of two things:
1) Forcing the HA highwind scene without choice.
2) Giving you a choice for either the Highwind scene OR something explicitly romantic with Aerith (like kissing).
If it's the former the book is closed for good.
If it's the latter, although fans will argue which pairing is "better" it will be impossible to argue canonicity, everyone will just chalk it up as player choice like it was in W3 or BG3.
The absolute worst thing they could do would be for the sex with Tifa under the highwind to be optional, and also giving you a vaguely-symbolic dream scene with Aerith where you just hold hands or something. Although that still imprints Tifa as the clear winner since they have definitive romantic engagement, the argument will always resort to "but it's optional."
Reads more like a "Yes, as long as he still wants to" than it does a "Maybe, maybe not." But I don't want to jump the gun. I'll wait to play the game to see the full context.

Cloud will be free of Jenova’s influence by that point in Part 3. So there really shouldn’t be any player choice in my opinion. Focus on a new gimmick like intense and dope Kaiju hunting.
"Maybe, he hasn't given me reason not to" doesn't match up with what other leaks said she still calls Zack a womaniser and stuff, was that part not true then? About her being in denial and things.

She says to his parents “A charming guy like Zack? I probably wasn’t the only one he had” is the only “womanizer” thing she said. What else isn’t matching up?
I remember in the OG Sector 5 park she called Zack a lady's man and said he'd probably found someone else. Still comes off like a big whiff of the copium bottle imho.

Are folks in this thread happy for this to become an untagged spoiler thread for Rebirth? Like this post with cookie monster for Yes, or sad panda for No.

i'm like 99% percent sure the ltd is done with after watching
the streamer play through gongaga
. that shit was so sweet and emotional i actually teared up a little bit. it would actually blow my mind if they don't end the LTD after this. like just completely awful writing if they keep it ambiguous at the end of part 3.
