It's very on the nose but it also makes sense given that Barret's putting a lot of trust and money in him based solely on Tifa's say so.

That it makes sense character-wise is one of the best things about it, I feel.

Are you familiar with X-men? There's a situation like that where Cyclops falls in love with a woman who reminds him of Jean Grey when the latter is presumed dead and gets married with her, has a kid, then runs off the moment Jean turns up alive. Now it turns out this woman was in fact a clone of Jean created by an evil mastermind but it was still a dick move of him.
He also occasionally had a problem where he'd reminisce about things he did with a different entity that was pretending to be her, but that entity also thought it was her for awhile, and then she absorbed the memories of both the clone and the other entity. Comics, man.

I'm familiar with the first trilogy of movies. I did do some searching about the characters' comic counterparts and I think I saw summaries of what you said here. I forgot what I thought about it in the moment, but I think the mind-screwiness of it all had me going, "I'll...stick with the movies, man. I can see this making sense in context, but I don't think I'm ready to sink my sanity looking for that context."

Cosmo Canyon rubbed me the wrong way. It seems to be selling Planetology, and in the OG it didn’t come across that way to me. It seemed more modest and off the beaten path.

Work has been insane and it's only Tuesday XD Help. But I wanted to say this place is wonderful and civil. Thank you all for your perspectives and being so welcoming.

Thank you @Eerie for your perspective and explanation. You know how I am. I overanalyze everything but I think I have a better understanding now. I just need to revisit it after Ultimanias and finishing my own playthrough. I'm basically maxing everyone out and going for EVERY date. So this should be interesting.

So far I love this game though I'm sideeying the ending like crazy bc I'm a purist. I hated Remake's ending but so far this game is freaking delightful. I don't think I'm finding anything I hate.

Lol I used "Love that can never be" but not as evidence. I was trying to describe how I felt about the ship. I know commercials aren't anything but marketting.

As for shipping the devs could have a press conference tommorow and I'd smile and nod and still ship Clerith. I love their dynamic. I love the characters and there is no getting off this train I'm on.
I also like ZA a lot. It's so sweet and if they get scenes great.

Fun fact I figured CT was canon endgame when I played OG in 2003. I played it like 5 times and had HA HW scene on the first playthrough but didn't care for CT. Like was not interested at all until Advent Children. So I like Advent Children and if that's where this leads ok. And so far ZA and CT in Rebirth have me going awwwww. So cute!

Excited for the Ultimania to reveal things too.

You don't have to look far. It's pretty surface level. The only issue- ba dum tish- is that it plays out over a long period of time real world. I think technically the entire 80s, though with gaps in between.

How so? Tifa and Aerith always felt p distinct to me re: gestures. Tifa does that funny angled arm and wrist thing, lots of hands behind her back and leaning forward, hand on hip. Aerith is more feminine wrist shakes, double hand waves... I'm not familiar at all with the actress' mannerisms, though, so I wouldn't really know.

Sorry, I misspoke. I meant Briana, Aerith's VA. I watched her stream Remake part 1 and it seemed to me that Aerith's mannerisms were more akin to hers in Rebirth than they had been in Remake. I could just be imagining it.

That was not a call out against you specifically. Just venting in general. Everything from that quote to the fucking monkeys in FF10 was used to try and prove C/A was endgame back in the bad old days.

And that's absolutely allowed. The problem is the people who are very mad because they want C/A to be endgame and they know it's not so they engage in character assasination, doublethink and outright lying (WacDonalds, natch) in order to tear down the opposition.

I too can’t wait for Part 3 and snowier climes

Fully expecting Part 3 to open in the snow, or even the gang already chilling at Icicle Inn, kind of how Rebirth opens already at Kalm? Either way the game’s opening hours will be in a wintry setting as that’s where we are heading and it’ll be such a distinct and unique experience having the third game open in such a drastically different climate to all the locations we’ve visited previously on the journey.

As for Cosmo Canyon’s tonal shift, I haven’t gotten there myself yet in my playthrough, but could them changing things slightly be more to do with them minimising the connotations of the canyon being inspired by Native American culture?

When I first played OG, I was young and I didn't understand everything. I thought Cloud and Aerith were the couple. Like to me Tifa was just there. The lifestream scene went right over my head. And when I first watched AC, I thought Cloud lived with Tifa just because they were friends and that he had some sort of spiritual-romance going on with Aerith. It wasn't until I was older that I was like oooooohhh I get it now.

But I really appreciate your thoughts and enjoy your posts. And as someone who used to be CA, there's been many times in the Remake games where Cloud and Aerith's scenes got me starry-eyed.

This was trotted out as a CLEAR indication that S-E was promoting pairings between a summery and a wintery personality, or C/A.

It's a bad argument, it should feel bad and the person who made it should feel bad.

Yeah for me it didn't go over my head just caught me off guard. Bc as a Clerith I was all about Aerith and I didn't think too much about Tifa until I got that scene. I didn't hate Tifa so I had been nice to her but I just didn't exactly care for the more down to earth childhood friend thing. Then I was like oh wait a minute.

But I was all about Cloud loves both girls until Remake basically. Remake changed my mind. And well not that my mind wanted to change. And since then it has been weird balance of enjoying CA anyway while acknowledging that he loves and ends up w Tifa in endgame. But I still see Clerith as "a romantic looking platonic deep undefined spiritual friendship that could have been more in another life". So that's just me. And no matter how hard I try and I have lol I can't unsee it.XD
