I know this was like 50 pages ago but this forum has been so dead you'd think Sephiroth caught it praying for Holy So I've been going through stuff I missed, liking old posts, and found this one. Thank you for posting it here Grim, I would likely never have seen it on my own (not the sorta thing my algorithm finds for me) and I loved it. What does Cloud cling to, to convince himself he's still him?

EC has some very neat little moments for them which we haven't really gotten elsewhere yet, like that modern take on when Tifa found Cloud in Midgar. Hope we still get a form of it in-game too for the third game.

It just blows my mind that there is a group of people who unironically admit to ignoring large swathes of the games because they run counter to what they want to believe, yet these same people demand to be taken seriously in discussing said games.

I am ready for if that gets announced to see all those people that tweet optional scene. To start suddenly caring about player choice in a game and the freedom to choose how the story goes XD. I'm making that prediction right now

Oh you know, I've seen some claim Cloud and Tifa have a great sibling-like relationship because they grew up together in Nibelheim. After decades of ranting they're not childhood friends.

Notice how in this scenario of theirs that they’ve invented in their mad lab, Cloud is an absolute jerk?

An actual terrible, hurtful, spiteful jerk who gets bitterly jealous and rebound kisses another girl. To what end? Hopefully make Aerith jealous?!

In every scenario they are inventing in order to make their ship work, it’s at such an extreme detriment to the characters, turning them into their literal exact opposites. Like it’s not enough they have to make poor Aerith a zombie in order to make Clerith work, but poor Cloud might as well be one too since apparently he’s not allowed any autonomy or decency in their scenario.

There’s coping, and then there is the complete lack of self awareness to realise that you are turning your preferred characters in your preferred pairing into awful people just to facilitate a “romance” that is founded on jealousy, rebound kisses, deceit, and hurting others feelings.

At this point i don't think they even care how their "romance" is portrayed and more so just want it confirmed at this point, no matter how.

There is a lot of misinformation about the whole "tifa and cloud as kids" thing, like the idea that she bullied him or something. I always thought the actual story was pretty easy to read between the lines, and Rebirth has kind of just added some more confirmation.

Tifa never understood what changed and never really let go of the idea of them being close, she did try to still include Cloud but he didn't want to share her. I do think the other boys, who most likely all had a crush on her, didn't want Cloud in.

Okay so I’ve actually tried to listen to this and I can’t hear anything but the first note of Tita’s theme at this point (0:17) and a bit past it. If someone could point out how exactly the rest of it is heard, that would be great. Unless I’m not crazy and only the first note can be heard. I mean, I hope I’m wrong and that there’s more in there because I think that’d be a really nice touch.

This is just Barrets theme really. There is no Tifa theme going on here.

Yeah, I get that but, it is not like it takes away anything from the Tifa X Cloud date at all.

If they are going by "she must still have feelings for him", as in Cloud is jealous of Zack and that Cloud wants to drop Aerith's panties next time he sees her than they got another thing coming.

Never. He asked if she talked to Aerith (presumably because Tifa insisted that she be the one to tell Aerith about Cloud remembering Zack back in Gongaga), then when Tifa said no, Cloud muses that it's a touchy subject and that Aerith still must have feelings for Zack.

I remember a specific comment that went something like "don't worry Cloud, you'll meet her again in death, in the promised land " and it just made me sick to my stomach, it confirmed to me, more than anything else, that this ship is just NOT ok.

Tifa says it's not as simple as Aerith having feelings.Due to the fact that Cloud is remembering Zacks death wrong. Cloud is remembering Zack as not a soldier which by offscreen talk we can assume Aerith has Talked to Tifa about Zack and vice versa. Hence Tifa asking Aerith any letters in Gongaga. So for Tifa the scenario about Zack is more complicated than just Aerith having feelings for Zack. But she can't say that to Cloud obviously

Yep it's in traces Tifa assumes it's after the incident but she also says he started drifting away in childhood which is because Cloud developed a crush and him and Claudia were ostracized by the village. As toddlers they played together a lot since Thea and Claudia there mother's were close

I hate the idea that I think I know which one you're talking about... If it's the one involving a ribbon, then let it be known that was when I dismissed CA as a romantic ship (as decribed by these people, just to clarify) in its entirety.

He was also catatonic. Guy was practically inconsolable.

The way he acted similarly to when Zack died.

Scream. And catatonic state of shock.

His reactions to Zack dying and thinking Tifa died provide an interesting contrast to how he reacts when Aerith “dies”.

He runs the gamut of denial, sadness, anger, disbelief, refusal etc. a sort of uneasy acceptance maybe towards the end? Helped by Aerith’s spirit still being a presence, maybe this helps him.

But with Zack and Tifa, he completely shuts down, and gives the impression of having lost all feeling, such is the impact their loss leaves.

- it was as real as getting that non'shock reaction on Aerith's death. Soldier Cloud is created out of Cloud's own perception of a 'strong' person to protect Tifa. It was his ONLY REASON FOR EXISTENCE he needs to be special just for her so if Soldier Cloud will hurt Tifa then what the point of his existence?

He slowly returns back to catatonic until barret slaps him back~ His reaction there is much real than the ending if you ask me.
