It's a simple question. How do you know Cloud loves either of them?
In AC, Tifa has what looks like a wedding ring (a ring, the same token of love given to Rinoa by Squall in VIII. I doubt Square would use same item in the same fucking way, only to have it mean two different things.) They adopted together and they run a business together and they apparently fucking live with each other. The words "I love you" are never stated but the words "HINT HINT" should be heard in your mind when see/read such particulars.
You also have to note Cloud's mental stability when knew Aerith, he wasn't himself. The guy, for numerous reasons, was practically parading around as Zack. Jenova Cells(manipulation by Sephiroth), memories of Zack, and downright shame. He doesn't restore his true personality until he falls into the Lifestream. And that personality is restored with which big chested heroine? Tifa.
After taking all of this into consideration, it can be safe to assume why Aerith even took an interest in Cloud to begin with. During his mental shitstorm, he reminded Aerith of Zack...and we're all aware of their close relationship in Crisis Core.
In my opinion Zack served as big brother/father figure for Cloud, and Tifa served as the big sister/mother figure. HMMMMMM, I wonder why Cloud would call her Mother in AC. I seriously doubt he would confuse his mother with someone he would love romantically, aye? If he did, we might as well just call the fucker Victor Frankenstein.

And whoever said Tifa just shot down Cloud's 'belief that Aerith brought Denzel to him', she DIDN'T. She actually AFFIRMED this idea, but affirmed that Cloud wasn't in it alone. Cloud wasn't alone. And that's why he left. Not 'to go to Aerith', but to FIND A GODDAMN CURE for the Kid Aerith brought to His and Tifa's home. He left, LITERALLY, to save the family. He stayed away for stupid reasons, but at least his intentions were always positive toward the family, towards HIS family.

Shit argument.
Barret, Tifa, Biggs, Wedge, and Jesse were members of Avalanche. Working together to bring down Shinra, and they lived underground together because they were being pursued by them. That's obvious.
Cloud and Tifa are in a different situation. They live together after the elimination of Shinra. And you don't see AVALANCHE adopting any kids, do you?
EDIT: Also, irl, when multiple are living together, there's probably nothing going on romantically. But when you see a male and a female living together, they're probably fucking when you're not looking.

I think it has to do with how they see the game and the compilation as a whole. They see this beautiful love story between Cloud and Aerith, and if Cloud's with Tifa, that really puts a damper on that.

In fairness, Barret has one of those Cloudy Wolf rings as well, as does Denzel. While it's not insignificant, it was never valuable in the LTD.
I will: It misses the point entirely. FFVII -- and most of the Compilation for that matter -- is written to be harshly honest. A typical "love conquers all" subplot in a story where one half of the supposed romantic pairing is killed off for absolutely no reason as far as necessity within the plot is concerned -- more for the sake of defying tropes like "sacrificing oneself to prove their love" -- and left dead to defy the resurrection trope?
That's simply inconsistent and completely counterintuitive.
