The interpretation vs canon thing is my biggest beef with the LTD debate though. There's nothing wrong with liking other pairings, but liking pairings and thinking said pairings supercede canon are two sepeate things.
I remember getting confused on that particular aspect a few years ago (I was a Clerith who hadn't gotten past disk 1 & argued it simply because I liked it more than "boring" Cloti), it took a debate with Ryu on some random FF board to help me see the error of my ways

This. Seriously. People are allowed to like whatever pairings they want, hell I don't even care if you ship Cloud with Red XIII (Though that would disturb me a little XDD) Go crazy!! However it's when people try to bash it into people's heads that their pairing is canon when evidence shows that it quite clearly isn't.

I ask the fans of Clerith this: Why do you feel the need for your pairing to be canon, what have you got to prove?? Can't you just enjoy the pairing for what it is, why do you feel you need some validation....seriously.

Also, I weep for the bat-shit Cleriths who bash Cloti from here to high heaven and say that all Cloti shippers are crazy and that Cloud and Tifa are just friends and would never get together. LOL I say to them, LOL what game have they been playing?? And I don't see anyone bashing their precious Clerith pairing so why do they have to bash Cloti and even say that it could never be canon when evidence says it is.

No there are ... at least a couple. But they won't come here. Like Winter said, most of us just like to read ourselves type hear ourselves talk. I don't think discussing stuff about the LTD is a bad thing really, but this thread does seem to get personal at times.

Many of the Cleriths I talk to and are friends with either

A. Just like it how it is like Winter just explained
B. Say it's open to interpretation, thus neither pairing is canon.

Honestly I don't like it when they give a quote or a phrase a totally new different meaning from what it's supposed to be and then say "That's my interpretation." That's just really silly.

Twisting people words around to make them look bad also makes me sad

I see you may have understood what I said as being something like 'canon goes against my pairing, so I choose to dismiss it', but it's not that.

I'll give you one example of what I actually meant: my first playthrough, my date scene was with Tifa. The second time it was Aeris. So which one is canon? Personally I think it's irrelevant.
