Anyway, where do we stand on the sound of accursed flutes?

The sound is fine - it's when they stop that you should worry.

Actually you'd simply stop existing if they stopped playing. Or maybe, you'd wish you had just stopped existing, if you know what I mean. IÄ! IÄ! AZATHOTH FHTAGN! THAT AMORPHOUS BLIGHT OF NETHERMOST CONFUSION WHICH BLASPHEMES AND BUBBLES AT THE CENTER OF ALL INFINITY!

I got a reply from the host of the apartment we were looking at today. It's... not good. I'm close to 100% sure that this is a canned reply since it didn't address or even mention the issues I raised in my initial message (cancellations, number of beds).
Hello,

Thanks for liking my flat and placing an inquiry.

The apartment primes for its extremely central location. Close to main London attractions including Soho, Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square. There are extensive transportation options, including Leicester Square tube station less than 2min walking distance and several buses! Throughout the years we have hosted big groups and families.

There are good sized bedrooms, two ensuite bathrooms and the lounge and kitchen are ideal for relaxation and conversation.

The apartment was recently redecorated with a new designer sofa, ambient remote control for lighting and heating, new cutlery, beautiful china and new paintings.

For extra guests we have in storage luxury memory foam mattresses that we place neatly in the corners of the lounge and/or the bedrooms as you prefer.

Upon your arrival, the apartment will be cleaned for you with towels and fresh bed linen.

The kitchen is fully equipped and, if needed, you can use the equipment to do laundry. Also, we can organise a cleaning service midweek during your stay.

We are usually able to check in our guests' luggage at 12pm and check out is at 11.00am.

Please, let me know your preferred check in and check out times and I will arrange everything for you.

Let me know if you have any further questions. I look forward to hosting you!

Kind regards,
Vic

I think this is evidence enough to ditch this place and move on. This was our next choice but it's quite a bit more expensive at £41/$55/47€ per person per night (based on 11 people, the maximum, for seven nights).

Before we really delved into this at the weekend, Cacti and I were looking at a hostel that cost about £19 per night. I know hostels aren't for everyone and I'm not suggesting that that's a good solution for us as a group; I'm just highlighting that we'd be paying a premium to stay together if we went with this apartment. And I'm poor. As a compromise, we could stay together for fewer nights, since some people will be leaving London earlier than the 8th anyway, and then make our own arrangements for the rest of our time in London. For example, we could rent the apartment for four nights instead of seven, from Thursday the 1st of Feb to Monday the 5th. What do we think?

That's not looking too good, so that one is a no-no. I think I should be able to do 47€ a night if it's for 7-8 nights max. But I'm not opposed to the idea of renting out a full room at a hostel or stay a few nights together and then split up for the remaining days either. Honestly, I'm up for anything as long as it doesn't end up being way more expensive than a hostel.

Yeah let’s stay away from the summoner that other apartment. :monster:
As far as the nicer one goes, I’m all for it. If it’s between $55-$75 a night (the price will probably go up a bit with less people I imagine?) then I can do it. I’d be paying that and more for a hotel anyways. o.o
I’d prefer 7 days but I don’t have the smallest budget here by the sounds of it, so if most others can only do 4 than that’s what I’ll do as well. So long as we have a decent sized group, the price is pretty good for each person. I probably couldn’t do it with a small group.

I'm pretty happy to go with group consensus on this, as long as it doesn't drastically exceed exceed 50 squid a night I'm good for whatever

Looking like early consensus is to stay in that place for seven nights, if we can get it. I'm also willing to go with that even if it's more expensive than I'd like. That's what tax refunds are for, I guess...

I'm down for the other place, I was thinking the other one might have been slightly dodgy from what we saw. :monster:

I'm only able to do 3 nights (Thursday-Sunday), but I'm happy to throw in a bit more to help cover the rest of the amount.

I can pretty much go with the flow. Yop mentioned that he's gone ahead booked a hotel so I think we need a roll call of who is actually going to be staying in an apartment - as I've said prior it's something I'm happy to participate in but if it falls through for whatever reason I can just book hotel rooms with whoever.

I'm up for the apartment. Maybe we should do your last option Flint, doing the apartment Thursday to Monday and then those of us staying longer booking a hotel.

As said previously I'm more comfortable booking a hotel. Which one did ya book Yop?

Grange White Hall, it's not too far (5-10 minute stroll) and it looks as though it'll be quieter than Royal National. Prices are pretty decent too.

Whatever we're doing (or not doing), would it be possible to figure it out concretely asap? I can't speak for anyone else, but definitive plans need to happen immediately so people can budget this out and all that fun stuff. Hate to be that guy, but the longer this takes, the more people are going to have to spend on rooms, especially if this whole apartment thing falls through because they dont get back to us or not enough people are doing it or whatever else.

For a few reasons I am officially bailing out of this idea (and apologies for not responding to the roll call, I didn't know there was one!)
Situations have changed to some degree and I'd be more content in a hotel, especially as a number of others are already doing that.

Sorry peeps. :(

Seconding Kimble, I am still up for the apartment but if a few more people end up backing out then I’m booking a hotel because then it won’t really be a price difference, and the whole reason for an apartment was to save on some money and have a good place for everyone to hang out at.

I’m a bit frazzled at how long it’s taking for people to figure this stuff out tbh :monster:

I did tag you on Discord, Joe, but I guess you were away at the time. Anyway, thanks for letting us know where you stand.

As a general piece of advice to everyone, if you click "thread tools" at the top of this page, you'll be able to subscribe to this thread (or any thread) and get email notifications whenever there's a new post, or at most once a day, whichever you prefer. It's a very handy feature for when you don't want to miss anything – I'm subscribed to the D&D thread, for example.

Anyway, here's Wonderwall a new list of people who are still, as of this moment, up for the apartment share:

  • Ami
  • Cacti
  • Carlie
  • Flare
  • Flint
  • Kev
  • Kimble
  • Lex
  • Minato
With a head count of nine, it would work out at about €45 to €50 per person per night. I strongly feel that we should just book the apartment for the extended weekend of KupoCon, Thursday to Monday, as I suggested earlier, since (1) it is expensive, and (2) the nine of us will be down to seven by Monday (Ami and Kev will both be gone by then) and six by Wednesday (Lex).

The good thing is that everyone on that list has confirmed their participation. I could book today and split the bill through Airbnb's split with friends feature. You'd each be sent a bill of about £185/€208/$243 to pay in full within three days. Technically it would only be a "request to book", since the host would have to accept us, but that just means it's all the more worthwhile to do it ASAP. If you don't want me to do this, speak now or forever withhold your credit card payment. :P

I agree with this. Let's grab that apartment! I'd he able to pay that bill straight away too which is great.

So that leaves me with 3 nights to stay at a hostel, unless I can find a much cheaper and smaller Airbnb for those 3 days which I doubt. But if we're doing this apartment thing, who's staying until the 8th and would be willing to share a 4 person room in a hostel? It would come to around 20 pounds a night if I remember correctly. I know Flint said he was up for a hostel but is there anyone else?

Could you PM/Discord/Facebook me your email addresses for the Airbnb split thingy? Thanks. I'm not entirely sure if you need to sign up for an account there but I expect it will need an email address either way.
