I'm terrified they're going to fuck up "the reveal" at the end of the Lifestream sequence. I want it to be modernised, perfect, and faithful to the original. I want to see him taking the helmet off, the music to kick in at the right point, and even his body to move the same way. That scene is the one for me. The one that inspired a passionate love of gaming that's never gone away. The one that made me realise storytelling in games could rival and surpass movies and even books. It's my single favourite moment in all of gaming. And I have a pretty valid fear they aren't going to do it justice.

It was the most perfect moment to ever be perfected.

Which means they're gonna fuck with it :@

Yeah, and there will be some problems too. No game is exactly perfect.

At least Steve Burton is reprising his role as Cloud in World of Final Fantasy, which I'm pretty sure was what he was talking about when he posted on his twitter account that he thought he'd done some voice acting as Cloud for KH3.

It's interesting, I'm honestly relatively confident that the remake will be good on the whole. But when it comes to the integrity of very specific moments, I have considerably less confidence.

Why? It is assumed that in the best moments of the game is when it should shine and the lifestream moment is a BIG one, so I guess they will put more effort and dedication compared to other moments.

Well, that's just it, I think. The fear is that they'd put too much attention and change it unnecessarily. The camera sweeping through the dimly lit room from behind Cloud and swinging around in front of him just as he removes the mask and music swells would indeed make a great scene even better. But it's just as likely that they would overdo it by, oh I dunno, throwing in a fight with Jenova there :monster:

That scene is like a reward for dealing with the ear-piercing music and being slightly confused for a good half hour. I think we can be pretty sure they're going to drastically change that sequence, I just don't want them to change the end scene. I can see them sitting in a board room going "this segment is a slog, we need action here!" when that's the antithesis of what the sequence is supposed to give you. So yeah, valid fear.

If they managed to say "No, that would be stupid" when it was brought up for CC, I'm sure they'll refrain from making such a change in the remake.

Then again, CC was directed by Tabata, and produced by Imaizumi - two completely different people than who's working on the remake.

I also think CC is somewhat of a mixed dish. Some they did good, and other aspects of that game's direction is the exact thing I wouldn't want for the remake at all (like the ridiculous ending).

While FFVII had its share of ridiculous action sequences, they were primarily kept to the battle scenes. Now, how representative those battle animations are for what the player is supposed to see as the world of FFVII is debatable, seeing as some of the scenes clearly break the line (like the showdown with Sephiroth, or the ones with dialogue and clear transition to story-scenes like the first fight against Reno) whilst others are clearly abstractions (summons like Zero Bahamut, or the fact that you can get shot several times without dying), I think we can safely say based on scenes like Sephiroth banging his sword on the containers in the Nibel reactor without anything being cut in half, Cloud running away from Soldier grunts, getting cornered in an elevator by the Turks and giving up, or Zack getting shot to death by two Shinra grunts, suggest a "fairly" down to earth power dynamic in the game.

CC, pardon my french, like AC before it, shits all over that by going full Dragonball Z, and based on the few game-play scenes and interviews we have I think it's safe to assume this will be true for the remake as well - which probably means that's a stylistic choice that will also extend to the way the story is directed in general.

Simply put - everyone buckle up, because Cloud is probably going to be doing back-flips, wall-runs and slow-mo stuff left and right whenever he has a chance to do so.
Maybe we'll even get to see him do a zero-gravity fight with Sephiroth before he stabs Aerith to death, because hey, THAT'S KEWL RIGHT:awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome:

Also, Nomura, did you get my memo about giving Cloud facial piercings and five more belts overlapping the old one? It would be like, seriously kewl.

I'm expecting Cloud to do those kind of things anyway, and hey, him doing the wall-runs like in KH2 and Dissidia Final Fantasy are really awesome.

Actually, seeing him do the back-flips will be really cool too.

No....just, no. It's bad enough that Nomura gave Barret Sunglasses. I don't want Cloud's or anyone else's looks to get any more ruined. Plus, one earring for Cloud is good enough for me.

And why more belts? I like his current design.

I think Hian was joking.

Also, what's wrong with Barret's shades? As a whole I thought Barret looked great.

I think that opposing the OG to CC/AC regarding this subject is an unfair call. The OG had its share of KEWL action scenes which were not part of combat. To name a few: how Cloud enter the train car after escaping from the Shinra grunts (how's that for a theatrical back-flip?), the escape from the pillar of Sector 7 with the improvized zipline, the escape from the Shinra building with the Hardy Daytona, jumping atop a high-voltage pylon with Mr. Dolphin...

I doubt Barret's going to keep the shades on past Midgar. Regarding stuff like wall runs and backflips, they'll probably want to at least show why SOLDIER is around, since they're supposed to be stronger than normal people and such. Then there's all that jumping around the character's did in the OG, as well as jumping on a dolphin. Unrealistic physics are a bit of a given in some form or another, so it's largely a matter of execution.

Barret probably has sunglasses only in the first half hour of the game then takes them off permanently. :monster:

And then there'll be fans complaining you don't get to put them back on. :wacky:

I wonder if Barrets shades are night-vision? Cos otherwise it wouldn't make any sense at night/below the plate.

I don't think the dolphin bit is going to be in it, because it barely made any sense in the OG. I mean, dolphins can jump *googles* 15ft high unladen (do you mean an African or a European dolphin? :awesome: )

So how high could a dolphin jump with a muscly man with a big fuck-off sword? Not only is it contending with additional weight but its er....Aquadynamics would be al fucked up. And that tower was a lot higher than 15 ft.

Plus, if they are going to have Cloud doing a load of DBZ twattery anyway it's going to look a bit fucking stupid to have to enlist the help of a dolphin all of a sudden.

Maaaaaaaaybe, if it were me making the remake, I'd include a bit where theres an underwater tunnel that the dolphin can guide you to or some shit, and then you can make your way in and up and still come out on a ladder near the airbase with that impressive cutscene of the Highwind.

Cloud doesn't exactly have anything to jump off of in the water to reach where the dolphin is flinging him, so it does make some sense he'd been help to get there.

For the logic of Barret's shades, presumably they make him less suspicious than if he was visibly looking around and glaring at people or something and there's enough lighting that they don't impede visibility much. You can learn a lot just from someone's eyes and where they're looking based on context. I suppose it's still rather flimsy though.

Clearly Barret took some inspiration from the 80's

Also, I second dropping the dolphin mini game. I mean, the dolphin can still be there but to be honest I've never been a fan of that part of the game.

I still haven't figured out how the dolphin game works, I just blindly fire Cloud skywards until I get lucky.

Shades make perfect sense for someone that lives primarily in the slums and isn't used to much light any more.

After AC, they had to make CC SOLDIER consistent with it. But even in the OG, characters regularly make jumps taller than they are and fall hundreds of feet onto stone without being hurt.

Ah man, I hope that's the reason. That way Marlene and Aerith will definitely need shades for extended periods of the game as well.
