1. Not trying to tease at all, but I think it's awesome that a player wanting Cloud to have facial piercings and 8 belts was taken seriously. Just...fucking great.
2. Please, please, no wall-running and backflips. I know it's coming anyway, but I feel the need to hope for it still, like praying for someone on their deathbed. Any Metal Gear fans here? Anyone who played the original MGS and then the GC remake? Remember Solid Snake Matrix-backflipping onto a fucking missile shot at him from a helicopter?? Yeah.
3. While I think we all want to see the "sans glasses" OG Barret we all know and love at some point, the point about it being 'unrealistic' for him to be wearing sunglasses is a bit silly. I mean, I see people wearing sunglasses on the NYC Subway all the time, and it's basically an even darker, dankier Midgar. Come to think of it, they are often real-world Barret type individuals as well.
4. Include Mr. Dolphin or I fucking walk. They don't have to have him flip on you up to the pillar, but come on. In actuality, though, I'm almost certain they will cut both Priscilla and Mr. Dolphin from the game.

I'm not trying to have a breakdown here, but come on! The Remake is already bad enough as it is. If Cloud (or Odin forbid, Reno) had any facial piercings, that'll just ruin things completely. If that happens, then the game is definately not just a remake, it's a friggin' reboot!

2. Please, please, no wall-running and backflips. I know it's coming anyway, but I feel the need to hope for it still, like praying for someone on their deathbed.

Why not? I'm not thinking the wall-running like the Prince of Persia(or that same style that was used in Tron Evolution), but more in the Dissidia style. And plus, Tifa and Yuffie will both most likely do the back flips(and maybe Reno) more than Cloud.

3. While I think we all want to see the "sans glasses" OG Barret we all know and love at some point, the point about it being 'unrealistic' for him to be wearing sunglasses is a bit silly. Come to think of it, they are often real-world Barret type individuals as well.

If they ruined Barret's look by giving him sunglasses, they'll remove Rude's sunglasses and the two had suddenly switched completey. Next thing that'll ruin FFVII is changing Reno's current bright red hair(which I love) to blue or god forbid darker red.

4. Include Mr. Dolphin or I fucking walk. They don't have to have him flip on you up to the pillar, but come on. In actuality, though, I'm almost certain they will cut both Priscilla and Mr. Dolphin from the game.

Which also proves my point that this is not a remake. It's a reboot. Either way, the FFVII franchise is completely ruined by now. I'm seriously not playing it. I'm sticking to the Compilation of FFVII.

@Tash: To be clear, I DEFINITELY don't want Cloud to suddenly have facial piercings or 8 belts, and neither did the poster that first mentioned it (Hian), it was a joke. I was just pointing out that you took it as a serious request and didn't think it immediately ridiculous just shows how insane some segments of the fandom has gotten. Because there actually ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO WOULD WANT THAT?! Nomura's very particular character design, where things like goggles, dress length, a bracelet, and yes...sunglasses...are meticulously thought out and decided upon, is a huge part of what we love about the original...so why fuck with it? Just update the graphics.

The reason I don't dig on that type of "Dragonball" backflipping etc, is because it breaks with the tone of the game. And it's not even that it's "not serious", because FF7 has plenty of tongue-in-cheek, wink-wink moments and humor, if anything, it's almost the opposite, in that the flying all over the place tends to have the tone of "Look at how fucking badass this is!! These characters are gods!!" when it's just distracting pyrotechnics. Just like anything else, you need to have a spectrum. If your guitar amp is already on 10 from the beginning, how do you make it dramatic when you kick into the chorus?? By the same token, you can have action and excitement, but when your characters are already flying around from the get-go, doesn't it kill the drama of, for example, seeing Cloud lift off the ground in the Northern Cave??

They definitely won't change Reno's hair. Will they give him new shoes, or something? Yeah, maybe. But the red hair, goggles, etc are definitely as iconic as the Buster Sword at this point. My question is, will they go with the original Reno?? The one who was pretty much a sociopathic murderer who emotionlessly dropped the Sector 7 pillar on tons of innocent people, even though he still had a dark sense of humour for a while? Or will they go with the comic relief, good-guy-with-a-bad-job guy from things like AC? Which one do you prefer?? Also, I'm sure the sunglasses will come off as well. If I had to guess, I'd say they're added to increase that sense you have at the beginning of Barret being a mysterious, kinda asshole-y guy who just hired you, you're a client and nothing more, you don't know much about this fellow...and then you end up slowly bonding.

As far as your last comment, wow, sudden extreme pessimism about the Remake, eh?? I mean, all of this is still speculation, so it's a bit early to say that the series is "ruined" now. I mean I've been more disappointed by existing compilation stuff than by what I've seen so far of the Remake, but you seem to really dig on the Comp, so maybe that's why we feel differently about this new game? In thinking about all the detail that goes into remaking a game, I've slowly over time let go of expecting to see all the minute characters and things I love (like Priscilla, or Mr. Dolphin, or my beloved Shinra Manager) and realized all those little things MIGHT not make it...but as long as we get to see our favorite locations and the main story arc in glorious modern graphics, who's to complain?

It never occured to me that the facial piercings and eight belts was a joke. Though in truth, I don't take jokes that well. Never had. And I agree wit hyou in how they decided to screw with the game already.

When I first heard rumors about the remake, I actually expected them just update the graphics with a bit of some new info making connections with the Compilation titles. But when I first saw the first teaser last year, I know this is very strange, but I instantly felt a powerful feeling it was more of a reboot, because that's what it felt like to me.

I wasn't referring to the Dragonball thing, because I'm not a Dragonball fan at all. I was more referring to the backflipping thing more into the final fantasy and Kingdom Hearts world.

But I can see your point in that. But then again, with Vincent, he can easily do all that kind of things due to the sick experiments Hojo-Sicko did to the poor guy.

They definitely won't change Reno's hair. Will they give him new shoes, or something? Yeah, maybe. But the red hair, goggles, etc are definitely as iconic as the Buster Sword at this point. I seriously hope they won't change that much of the main characters like Cloud and co., Rufus and the Turks, ect. Sure I'm expecting the HD of the original President and the other board members, but hopefully not anyone else.

Cloud looks more like Lightning now than himself in facial expressions.

From what I understood, Reno was bit of a joker before the original game if you look back to Before Crisis and see how close he was to all of the BC Turks.

Sure he was a trained assassin, but that was just part of his job, and President ShinRa was a cold-hearted bastard along with Scarlet, Heidegger and especially Hojo.

I think the reason why he was such cold-hearted in the original game was because Reno, along with Rude and Tseng, had no choice anymore once the BC Turks went missing and it was heavily hard on him, which was why he had changed into the mass murderer, because he had to practically close up his emotions, but deep down, he was still mourning and wouldn't wish to lose anyone else, though he also knew that Elena would've have to take care of herself. But he did go out of his way to rescue her and help Cloud and the others to save Yuffie.

And on top of that, seeing the smaller version of AVALANCHE probably made Reno mentally furious that the organization that made things go down hill was still around, yet he failed to realise that the smaller version was a different version and that Cloud, Barret and Co. never even knew about the original AVANLANCHE that took away almost everything from him. Heck, Barret found the message, never even thought there was an AVALANCHE and adopted the name for his own group and did something similiar but his reason was just trying to shut down ShinRA and not....well, what the original AVALANCHE tried to do.

It wasn't until Reno had eventually began to think(off-screen) and come to realise that all along he and the remaining Turks had not been facing the same AVALACHE and actually also realised that Cloud and Co. wanted to save the world from Sephiroth and that's way, via some player's choices, he decided to leave them once the WEAPON and the effects of Meteor destroyed Midgar.

Not to mention that once he saw and was reuighted with the BC Turks who were still alive, Reno had recovered from the loss and finally returned to his semi-warm hearted self along with the other remaining Turks, and despite the departure, he and the others continued to work for Rufus, and over two years, Reno became who he is now in AC.

Heck, in the Final Fantasy WIKI website, on his character profile, (how do you put spoilers here by the way) they say that he'd been pardoned for the destruction of Sector 7 by Reeve who by now was the comissioner of WRO and that Reeve had realised that Reno had been forced to blow up Sector 7 by the original President, who like I said, was a cold hearted bastard.

And I guess you have a point on Barret, but even in the original opening of the game, he didn't even wear sunglasses and I don't think he even needed to.

Yeah, well, I've always prefered the Compilation because I can understand the storyline better to my liking and love how the characters eventually develop either from the original game or into the original game and how things turned out and at the same time, given the potiental of unexpectingly gaining more adventures.

And plus, I've always wanted Square to close up the gap between the original ending and the "500 years later" thing so that I can feel a bit of an open ending but at the same time, feel like the characters had moved on peacefully without the sudden flash of light and then suddenly, no answer to what happened or what happened to humanity or how Nanaki actually survived if the Highwind suddenly crashed and killing everyone due to both the Holy Magic and the Lifestream.

That's why I wanted a remake of BC and another sequel to the Compilation more than the remake.

Yeah, they did, but it still begs the question on how Genesis is gonna protect the planet and what Weiss has anything to do with it. I mean, something is bound to go wrong with those two, and Genesis refered to him as his brother, which in reality, he doesn't have any.

And it doesn't have to be "500 years worth of Compilation titles", just one last one to at least have the world in peace so that, while it doesn't have to be explained, Cloud and humanity get a decent good ending and then zoom to 500 years later where Nanaki thinks about all of his friends and their decenends or something and how they and Rufus and the Turks who are no longer real enemies had passed on peacefully.

And maybe have Vincent arrive to stand next to him to gaze out at Midgar ruins, since Vincent is practically immortal.

Considering that, in all their screentime, the Turks never once are shown to follow an order they dislike without wriggling out of it, defying it, ignoring it, or creatively interpreting it to suit themselves, I'm always a bit bemused by the assumption that they must have been forced into dropping the pillar. The only time we see them carry out an order unwillingly is Tseng grabbing Aeris, and even then he delayed for years.

That's why I said "Off screen" in my earlier comment, and with Tseng delaying the capture of Aerith for years just shows that even the Turks are good hearted but were forced to close up their real feelings to sastify the President. Rufus learned a little bit of caring people as you will know in the Case of ShinRa.

To me that shows the evolution of characters, including AC when Cloud finally forgives himself. Same with Vincent in Dirge.

I take you're one of those people who hate some villians turning into good guys and helping the protagonists, right?

I mean, Hojo will never turn good. He's seriously too far sick in the head to care about others. Bet even his parents ditched him on first notice.

It can be just as annoying when a villain is redeemed too easily as when they no longer have any reason to be evil and are given the chance to redeem themselves but don't because the writer would rather reset the status quo than let character development stick and move onto another conflict. A large part about it is how it's handled. The best way to create nuanced villains would pro ably be to set aside the good/evil hero/villain thing and simply come up with characters who have varied motives and morals that drive them to do different things which tend to create conflict with each other. Then, each character is likely to have a mix of flaws and redeeming qualities regardless of which side of the conflict they're on. You're still occasionally going to have unambiguously evil characters like Hojo but there are a variety of uses for such characters as well.

People changing, forgiving themselves, turning to good, is fine. The Ultimania using Reeve to tell us Reno was an innocent when it comes to Pillar collapse all together through some not before seen power the President apparently held over Reno specifically is a different discussion.

If he had such a power, I feel like he would've used it when the Turk were openly rebelling a short time beforehand.

I'm not sure what you guys mean, but as I said before...the original President was a cold hearted bastard. He likes the idea that he has the power to kill millions of people whether he likes them or not.

If anything, it's more of the case that he hates emotions and freedom and wanted to enslave the world without revealing too much until the time was right and believed that the Promised Land would fufil his goal to become ruler of the Planet.

Remember how he wanted to create Superhuman armies as revealed in Dirge? It's almost like Giovanni wanting to create an army of super-cloned Pokemon with Mewtwo as head before the latter erased his memories in the anime. I think the original President wanted to have Sephiroth has head of the superhuman army.

And the President likes to blame everyone else but himself. Scarlet and Heidegger only cared about creating war machines and killing and/or imprisioning everyone to their liking, money and power. Hojo...well, he just hates humanity and life all together and believes he is the only one with a mind and everything else including the world itself are nothing but objects and toys he can play around with.

I believe the Turks are more of the "Side Villians" of FFVII. Reeve's okay too, because he was the first to begin to redeem himself. Plus, he hates Scarlet and Heidegger.

I'm pretty sure this claim is a complete fabrication anyway. Whoever edited that into the FF Wiki didn't even bother to name a source.

From what I understood, Reno was bit of a joker before the original game if you look back to Before Crisis and see how close he was to all of the BC Turks.
The point leadmyskeptic was making is that the depiction of Reno seen in the Compilation is very different from that in the original game, so they're wondering whether the remake development team will go back to the original depiction or alter it to that depiction seen in the Compilation of an overall decent guy burdened by his conscience (while inexplicably being an ace black ops operative :monster:).

Oh, I see. Weeeeell, as much as everyone's probably gonna groan right at me and unfortunately as this Remake is obviously a reboot(leaving the Compilation in a cliff-hanger), this won't happen, but I hope they'll at least merge the Reno from both the original game and more towards the Compilation together, because I prefer Reno's Compilation self better, and little of the original via player's choices when the Turks are confronted for the last time that he understood that ShinRa is finished.
