Huh... on the one hand, the game, the tv series, and Tails' new design all look like they have potential. On the other hand, absolutely everyone else's designs are horrid and unnecessary (especially Knuckles). Not sure how this is gonna play out.

Is this going to have more supporting cast than the 4 characters? I know that was a quick segment, but they're kind of selling this like it's going to be Sonic and Eggman in a Wile E. Coyote chase setup with the same desert background.

If I'm wrong and they make it more like the ABC cartoon/Archie stuff I'll give it a shot.

i have a big, hyooge percentage of 1000% that these are the only characters available. i mean, look at the logic. just a year ago, Iizuka said that the games will just "be about sonic". but now we see sonic's friends. the only thing to conclude to is that SEGA is telling us these are the only characters that will appear. there's even a rumor that shadow will be killed off.

pathetic, too. as of now, he's the best character. so glad he isnt in this - i'd vomit. i already had to stomach it with sonic.

A little info I've heard lately:

This is Wii U exclusive due to the exclusivity contract between Nintendo and Sega for thei next 3 games. This is the last of those 3 so their next release will be multi-platform.

Putting aside Metal Sonic's talk about becoming a "Robot Overlord", what I think Metal Sonic was trying accomplish throughout this whole game was to prove himself as more than just an inferior copy of Sonic. To do this, he used all the abilities at his disposal to copy the data of Chaos, the Ultimate Life Form, etc, to make himself stronger than the original. Toward the end of the game he achieves all the power he could want and faces Sonic once and for all in the ultimate rematch of Super Powered Beings. You could say Metal Sonic was fighting not only for supremacy, but to fulfill his reason for being, to defeat Sonic and find meaning in his own existence. This determination is spelled out well in his theme, "What I'm Made Of".

While I like this explanation a lot, it sounds like Shadow trying to discover his purpose in life, which happens in Shadow the Hedghog. Though this game did come first. But Shadow is a more main-series character.

+ALEX HIRSCH No, Shadow has nothing to do with this fight and it has everything to do with Medulll. It's a song about someone who's had e-fucking-nough of being restrained or told to be something he isn't ripping everything apart and just showing everyone how far he can really he go without a cage or fear of reprisal.

That isn't Shadow, who's issue isn't his imperfection or lack of freedom. Recognizing an impossible number of 'faces' and curiosity taking control of the singer, those are things that describe a robot better than a living being.

I dare you to listen to this after reading the context of the lyrics and not wanting to rip a new asshole through everything.

Metal Sonic is the best character.

the thing i love about metal is that he's not trying to "prove" anything. he KNOWS he's better than sonic. eggman has taught him this (whether eggman thinks this is the truth or lies is unknown, but i'd bet eggman believes he is better than sonic).

To do this, he used all the abilities at his disposal to copy the data of Chaos, the Ultimate Life Form, etc, to make himself stronger than the original. Toward the end of the game he achieves all the power he could want and faces Sonic once and for all in the ultimate rematch of Super Powered Beings.

dont forget sonic 4! metal also gained another power there. awesomeness!!!!!!!

You could say Metal Sonic was fighting not only for supremacy, but to fulfill his reason for being, to defeat Sonic and find meaning in his own existence. This determination is spelled out well in his theme, "What I'm Made Of".

this i dont quite agree with. metal is just a robotic powerhouse that desires to get rid of sonic simply because he is a useless copy. he honestly believes that he is the True sonic. he has no feeling outside of cruelty, severe lust for power, and hatred. i really do not think SEGA incorporated that idea you proposed.

also, metal doesnt want to defeat sonic. he wants to obliterate him; tear him to pieces; eat him alive; rape; take your pick.

in addition, metal doesnt need or want a "meaning in life". that kinda makes him not the metal sonic we all know and love. his "meaning in life" is being better than sonic and proving to him that he is not better as him.

he does that terrifically i might say.

THANK YOU SO DANG MUCH.

there are a tremendously little amount of people who truly understand shadow in his game. it wasnt mean to be stellar, and it wasnt mean to be terrible. it was simply an explanation shadow and what (and who) he needed to hold on to and what (or who) he needed to let go of.

Metal Sonic is the best character.

best villain to ever be created for me.

good thing he or shadow wont appear in boom to have their character ruined.

================

also apparently sonic boom will have absolutely NO PLOT WHATSOEVER. something i predicted as soon as i saw the first 3 seconds of my watching it.

I disagree with that interpretation of Metal, but I can see why you'd think it.

Mine is mostly because What I'm Made Of seems to talk about it. I think Metal does want to prove he's better because he gotten destroyed before and I can't imagine an overlord of machines being unaware of the fact he's a fake, and was force fed purpose.

"let me show you who I am and what I'm here for"

Curiosity wouldn't be taking control of him in the song if he didn't want to find something out. I don't think he's evil, I think he wants to destroy not just Sonic - but /everything/ ... And not because he's mean, because he's curious and wants to establish what he is. I would say this song could describe Sonic until it talked about Metal recognising a million faces simultaneously. I don't think Shadow or any biological creation has that kind of processing power, and at least very few have the cruelty needed to make them 'black marks on the floor.'

"You can take another night long try, you can take another try."

Metal confident in his abilities. A "come at me bro" @ Sonic. Willing to let him try again and again until Metal is tired of this shit and finishes it.

I think my conclusion is rational given how much of Shad's storyline and thoughts are conveyed through his musical themes and their lyrics. Metal Gear Rising did the same thing. It only makes sense What I'm Made Of would be a Metal Sonic song.

That witch (I thought Sonic was in the /wrong/ for killing her) in Black Knight had a similar song.

Your idea of it makes sense too.

Sonic Boom will be a fun game, it's just animated terribly and the designs look bad. It's a shame because a lot of capable fanartists like the Shad I posted there seem to have a better idea of how it *could* look.

And yeah, I like Shadow a lot. It's interesting you see him as a handsome individual in human form, I see him as rugged and like Solid Snake. (hey, ultimate life form) Sonic lends itself to a lot of interpretation.

Let's see if they can stop making the games be subpar to decent and make him as amazing as he originally was one day, because Sonic is a cultural mascot everyone loves and we all enjoy it for different reasons. The sad thing is Sonic Boom seems to be one of those heartfelt and decent interpretations, it'll be ok quality and outsourced to a team with a lot of dev time ... And isn't that what a normal Sonic game deserves instead?

I wish Sammy (Sega's owners) would let Sega make Sonic games for more than a year a piece.

Sonic is more of a business model than entertainment now and it's sad.

I can definitely see why this would enrage you if you don't like the look of it, because normal Sonic should at least get equal attention.

Generations was decent at least. I might pick up Colors.

This is the third time I've seen that video. I don't think it's a coincidence I seem to forget it exists until the next time I stumble across it.

Seriously, though, that's hilarious. There was one where the model got replaced with a realistic hedgehog which was pretty cool, too. I vaguely recall another where Sonic's running animation was messed up, effectively making it Dumb Running Sonic Generations. :monster:

yes, but you have to remember what metal says when he fights sonic. "I am the True Sonic!" (or something like that :P) and how he was talking when he was defeated. he just couldnt get it. it didnt compute with him. metal honestly thinks he is the True Sonic, whether he is defeated doesnt change his mind. he believes this with all of his evil robotic soul.

exactly 100% agreed.

oh i love the sonic first-person like song. my favorite would have to be Son of Man. really epic.

That witch (I thought Sonic was in the /wrong/ for killing her) in Black Knight had a similar song.

maybe sonic did know he was in the wrong, but what else could he have done?

Sonic Boom will be a fun game, it's just animated terribly and the designs look bad. It's a shame because a lot of capable fanartists like the Shad I posted there seem to have a better idea of how it *could* look.

looks like utter garbage. an insult to every single sonic fan everywhere. it's as if sega has spat in my face, literally.

And yeah, I like Shadow a lot. It's interesting you see him as a handsome individual in human form, I see him as rugged and like Solid Snake. (hey, ultimate life form) Sonic lends itself to a lot of interpretation.

so you noticed my korean version of him :awesome: well i like all types of shadow. his "handsome" (as you put it) versions, older versions, and even slighter younger versions. of course i like him as his regular version though.

Let's see if they can stop making the games be subpar to decent and make him as amazing as he originally was one day, because Sonic is a cultural mascot everyone loves and we all enjoy it for different reasons. The sad thing is Sonic Boom seems to be one of those heartfelt and decent interpretations, it'll be ok quality and outsourced to a team with a lot of dev time ... for some reason, not enough sonic fans are putting their feet down and saying "THAT'S IT. WE HAVE GIVEN YOU ENOUGH LINE, SEGA, AND THAT'S ENOUGH OF YOUR CRAP." they're "scared" of it for some unknown reason.

Sonic is more of a business model than entertainment now and it's sad.

now THAT is true. sonic is simply a cow now. there is no love or even just hard dedication in there (because you can hate something but still put good work into it).

I can definitely see why this would enrage you if you don't like the look of it, because normal Sonic should at least get equal attention.

Generations was decent at least. I might pick up Colors.

generations was lukewarm, half done, rushed, yuck. if you want colors, i suggest the handheld version. its at least holding better interest than the console version.
