a couple specific things are that the last boss in 0.2 only has 10 health bars instead of 12 and it glows red for a full second before attacking.

Okay can I just...

it drives me crazy... they had people TESTING this game, they had people play through the game to determine if stuff was okay and worked... and they PLAYED the Spellican boss and said, "Yeah it's good."

These people should be fired I swear :monster:

Okay so... I'm at Sora's last boss but I'm dying in like 3 hits so I plan to level up but... I don't get this time travel thing.

You can't time travel unless you cast aside your body but... Young Xehanort HAS a body... so do Xemnas, Xigbar and Ansem so... is this explained better in Riku's ending or am I missing something? Am I to conclude that when Ansem originally cast aside his body he went through time and got young Xehanort or...

Also didn't Riku and Sora time travel?

fuck I'm confused :sigh:

EDIT
also I'm assuming contrary to things I've read online, if you have a dream eater that offers a certain ability, you still have to unlock it for it to work right?... or does the Once More in this game just not work?

In the KH universe, or without that stupid door leading to the Timeless River at Disney Castle in KH2, in order to travel back in time, you need another version of yourself in that past already without making contact in meeting the pastself, which Xehanort broke that rule.

So in a way, the main reason why Sora, Riku and Kairi's raft vanished during the early events of KH1 is because Sora and Riku's future-selves 'stole' it in order to find a way to enter the Realm of Sleep and didn't know it until that point.

And since Xehanort's Heartless, AKA: "Ansem" possessed Riku's body in KH1, he used that said body, broke the true rules of time travel and managed to enter the time of his teenage years before breaking the rules of Time-Travel even more by taking his said teenage self into the future.

Hope this helped a little, but then again, Xehanort was always a rule breaker ever since he wielded that god-forsaken Keyblade from Luxu who got the damned thing from the most weirdest Masters in history.

Ansem, being a Heartless, does not posess his own body. The one we're used to seeing is Riku's, molded by Ansem after possessing him.

So, in order to go back in time, Ansem casts aside Riku's body. When you see him on Destiny Islands, he's essentially a heart in a robe, with no actual body, which is why he's so oddly shaped.

As for Young Xehanort, the Sleeping Worlds, as shown in the Pinocchio and Traverse Town levels, are basically Timeless. Stuff happens, but time doesn't really progress. Ansem technically being present at the fall of Destiny Islands is what allowed Young Xehanort to travel into the
Sleeping Worlds, and, once their, he, along with Xemnas, Braig, etc, could utilize Corridors of Darkness to travel between them.

As for the abilities, for stat boosts and the like, you have to both unlock the ability and have the corresponding Dream Eater equipped. For support abilities, you just have to unlock the ability. After that you are free to equip or unequip it as you like.

Xehanort didn't break the rules exactly, he just kinda bent them. What shocked the cast was the he lined everything up perfectly so that he could Time Travel under the strict requirements.

The exact rules are outlined later in Riku's story. What I write below is under the assumption that you have all the facts.

To begin with, I will write the rules as they are said in the English version:

Young Master Xehanort said:
First, you must leave your body behind to do it.
Then, there must be a version of you waiting at the destination.
Upon arrival, you can only move forward as per the laws of time.
And you cannot rewrite the events that are destined to happen.

I honestly can't remember if there is an interview that explains this in more detail. Regardless...

As an apprentice to Ansem the Wise, Xehanort cast off his body and became a Heartless/Nobody, meeting the requirements. As a Heartless, he travels back in time to Destiny Islands to meet his younger self. He passes on the knowledge of how to Time Travel (Which it seems you just learn when losing your Heart). Young Xehanort is also given the task of gathering different versions of Xehanort throughout time to the specific point the Original Master Xehanort's reconstruction. Of course, this encounter is forgotten, but the path is etched into his heart.

When you see Xehanort's Heartless and Xemnas throughout the course of the game, Young Xehanort is always there, acting as a portal for them.

We can only then assume that Xehanort's Heartless (The appearance of a brown-robbed figure) then waits on Destiny Islands to allow himself to be a portal for other Xehanorts to flock there and hijack the Mark of Mastery exam (Nomura mentions that two members guide Sora and Riku. I guess that's YX and Xigbar). We meet him there in KH1, waiting ("This world has been connected..." etc.). After the events of DDD, everyone returns with no memories. The series carries on as it normally should. All the Xehanorts that time travelled do what they do.

And of course, Sora and Riku do time travel since they were both cast off from their bodies at one point or another.

Sora lost his body in Hallow Bastion when he became a Heartless. Even when Kairi "restores him", he is but a walking heart. Roxas is his body, and they don't reunite until KH2.

Riku lost his body when Xehanort's Heartless possesses him and kicks him out to the Realm of Darkness in KH1.
It seems that once you learn this ability, you can't unlearn it.

There is but one thing that bothers me about this. Jecht touches upon it in his explanation. When does Xehanort's Heartless travel to meet Young Xehanort really? I frame it as if this was not too long after he became a Heartless, but there is one line of the script that bothers me. This is between Sora and Young Xehanort:
YX: "To move through time, you must leave your body behind. Ansem first sent me on my way and then placed himself here when the time was right. That is what set all these events in motion."

Sora: "What are you saying? That he knew everything that would happen?"

YX: "No, not everything. But remember, Ansem possessed Riku and saw his experiences in real-time"

I'm not really sure what that all means. It it were trying to say Xehanort's Heartless time travelled after possessing Riku, we run into at least 3 problems: 1) When did he do this? 2) How did he get back? 3) Why is he just a heart again? (Brown robe)

As is always the case with Kingdom Hearts, there are vague things that don't quite make sense. I often think there are things regarding this subject that we all have ended up assuming mistakenly. I would like someone to question Nomura further on it, but as this is only one big trick to write in 13 Xehanort's... I guess it doesn't have massive impact going forward.

If there's one thing I'm certain of, it's that my understanding here is mistaken somewhere.

Very sorry if there are mistakes here in terms of grammar or consistency. I wrote it out of order over the course of some hours.

That's lame... really lame :closedmonster: ... well at least I got second chance no matter what.

Also maybe it's cause I just woke up but I'm still confused af so I'm going to reread all this after work and hope it makes sense but right now all I have is more questions

Sora lost his body in Hallow Bastion when he became a Heartless. Even when Kairi "restores him", he is but a walking heart. Roxas is his body, and they don't reunite until KH2.

Um, you forgot to mention that Sora had Ven's heart which was placed inside Roxas even after Kairi restored the former, and that the latter's heart returned to be inside Sora's heart, which is why Roxas looked exactly like Ven, but part of Sora's body.

Ven didn't exactly matter in my explanation, so I omitted him. I was just showing how Sora was separated from his body (Which becomes Roxas), and thus qualified for time travel.

Why shouldn't Toy Story be included?

It doesn't fit right. Winnie the Pooh is enough when it comes to talking toys(Pooh himself, Tigger, Piglet, Kanga, Roo and Eeyore) but at least that's in a storybook, but not Toy Story what so ever. I'm sorry, but, it doesn't fit right. The only Pixar film I can see that'll actually fit into KH is Brave. Plus, Toy Story doesn't really have that magical thing to it other than the talking toys, but that's film that's left well enough alone, especially when it has no explanation on how or why toys can just, well, move and talk.

Is such an explanation really needed in a setting with talking lions, merfolk, a keysword that opens/closes portals, and whatever the hell Oogie Boogie is? =P

Whereabouts I come from, we call this the "Oogie Boogie defense." If you don't submit, you must acquit.

So honestly I still don't follow all this time travel shit and judging by the fact that I got 3 different answers from you guys, I'm guessing it's just not explained well :monster: I'm just going to say a wizard did it.

But another thing I don't get, was the Xigbar we saw Xigbar from KH II or was it the re completed Braig?
